trileptal

471949 tn?1236904026 My son takes Trileptal for his Epilepsy...(he is 16)...it's affecting his memory more and more; does anyone else here take this med and have similar problems? His dosage is 900mg/twice a day. Any lower dose and his seizures return. This has been the only med that has been able to control his seizures. He has frontal lobe epilepsy with seizures that only occured in his sleep (with a couple of rare exceptions). Thanks for your help.
728313 tn?1260459629 Trileptal should be introduced slowly. You probably felt so out of it because your brian was trying to get used to so much at once when you shouldn't have been taking it at all. That kind of fogginess is actually a normal (and very inconvenient) side effect when you begin taking any anti-convulsant. The long term side effect associated with taking Trileptal is liver damage. It must be monitored and a blood panel must be taken on a regular basis to make sure your liver is OK.
Avatar n tn I, too, had Rolandic Epilepsy as a child, and around the same time I was diagnosed with ADD. It is a fact that Rolandic epilepsy is associated with mild attention disorders, and oddly enough, difficulty with drawing pictures. Sometimes children with attention disorders/epilepsy do better with a "hands on" learning program that allows them to engage in the subject matter.
664798 tn?1225821618 Considering Chantix. I take Trileptal 600mg 2x per day. I have not had epilepsy all my life just started one day about 7-10yrs ago (in my30's). Now Trileptal on occassions makes me very dizzy. It gets to the point I get very nauseaed 'cause the room is spinning so fast. That is only on occassion. So considering Chantix and want to know if anyone has used it and found it works without effecting their epilepsy or their epilepsy medication(s).
643983 tn?1242175018 I wish I could get an answer to that as well. I was dx with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) a few months ago and taking Trileptal (450 mg per day), it seems to be working pretty well for me (I was having simple partial seizures and still have some aura on occasion, I will be talking to my neurologist about this on the next appointment). My neurologist was not able to tell me what caused it, I don't think I ever had a head injury.
Avatar f tn I’m on levetiracetam aka keppra and clobazam aka onfi. When I was on oxcarbazepine (trileptal) and levetiracetam (keppra) I started having these weird headaches where I would lose my vision, hearing, smell, and coordination, but I could still speak and feel. The doctors are pretty much stumped. Has anyone ever had a situation like this?
748540 tn?1233118053 I have epilepsy and headaches as well. I don't know if they are related. I don't know why I have seizures. I am on trileptal and take maxalt for my headaches. Docs don't know what else to do for me. My seizures are under control pretty much. Only have them in my sleep and only when I miss my medication or when I need to up it.
Avatar f tn My husband suffers from Epilepsy due to a gunshot wound to the back of his head, he started having seizures almost innediately after. He was prescribed Dylantin which was switched to Keppra. His neurologist recently added Trileptal to balance his levels because he was having seizures so often. His therapist also prescribed him Celexal and Elavil for depression medication due to bipolar disorder.
505751 tn?1225032462 I am taking Trileptal for Trigeminal nerve pain. It has worked well for me. I do think it makes me a bit sleepy though. But the relief I am getting from pain makes it worth it.
Avatar n tn i've had epilepsy since the age of four. i am now fifty four and take 1600mgs tegretol,160mgs phenobarbitol 300mgs effexorxr for depression and 3mgs xanex-xr. i've recently swithched to generic tegretol and feel a bit funny. my memory and reflexes are much poorer and i feel more fatigued.
1839520 tn?1318534498 My son has been diagnosed with Epilepsy due to seizures, however he also has an Arachnoid Cyst on his right frontal lobe. His neurologist won't even consider the draining procedure, he says there's not enough science to prove any connection between the two. He placed my son on Trileptal, which in my opinion has changed the way my son performs in school, hinders his memory, and acts like an ADHD type of calming medicine. My son had zero behavior problems prior to the medication.
1108262 tn?1273179266 DOES ANY ONE TAKE TRILEPTAL FOR BIPOLAR ??? IF SO HOW MUCH AND FOR HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TAKING IT??
959034 tn?1253671476 Which meds are best for which seizures? What does everybody else taking? Is it working? Does it make you sleepy? Side effects? How much do you take? Do you like it? Was it the first one you tried? Did you have to try many to find one that you liked?
Avatar m tn My three year old has been acting out severely lately. She has began being violent, back talking, she throws toys, && refuses to follow directions. She has also began lying. She knows the difference between reality && fantasy, however she has began lying about EVERYTHING! Even the simplest questions get lies as the answers. For instance I can ask her if she needs to go pee, she will lie && say no. She has never really had a problem with lying before about two months ago.
Avatar f tn Keppra was a really bad drug for me, but my sister takes it twice daily for epilepsy and has virtually no side effects. Studies indicate that most people taking Keppra have very few side effects. Most common are things like dizziness and a "foggy" feeling that goes away after a couple of weeks. The best thing to do is listen to her Dr and try it out. For whatever reason I started experiencing odd side effects like anger, depression and irritibility. My experience is not the norm.
Avatar f tn Since some medications can on occassion raise the seizure threshold it would involve a close conversation between your neurologist and psychiatrist as for what medication is right for you. My neurologist and psychiatrist do speak to each other as my treatment is adjusted including today.
Avatar n tn He is saying I have epilepsy. Put me on Trileptal, 150 mg 2 times a day for the first week 300 mg (600 mg pill cut in half) 2 times a day for the second week and 600 mg 2 times a day from then on out. I am about to start the 300 mg 2 times a day (tomorrow). BUT - my problem is - I'm not convinced I have epilepsy. I have never experienced a "seizure" as I am to understand them.
Avatar m tn s been there. My son is now on his second week of Trileptal for the seisures. We met a young lifeguard at a waterpark who shared his story with us. He indicated that he was put on Trileptal for mood control and Concerta for his ADHD symptoms. He told us that the two meds work well together. This gave us hope just knowing that someone has had the same experiences and succeeded. Good luck and i hope all goes well with your children. Keep me posted on your findings and I will as well.
574118 tn?1305135284 It just occurred to me since tegretol/trileptal, lamictal, valproate are mainly anticonvulsants/antiepileptic drugs and used off-label as mood stabilizers i.e. to fix/replace the broken thermostat in our brain, then it could be not the neuro-transmitters which were deficient rather some temporal lobes epilepsy. Has one thought of this, in which case it's more of a physical illness not to be confounded with mental illness.
Avatar m tn You mentioned that you were on many medications for Epilepsy off and on. It could be a combination of all these things that cause you to get older quicker. I do know one things most of the anti-seizure medications robs out bodies vitamins and minerals that are needed by our bodies on a daily basis. To stay healthy we need so much vitamins and minerals and fluids on a daily intake. When, I took Tegretol, I did not have the appatite to eat what I should.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your info on how Trileptal works for Tregeminal Neuralgia. I would be interested to see how it works with other people as well, in place of Carbamazapine and Gabapentin so I have some ammunition when I see my neurologist. I don't think Gabapentin is doing much if anything for me, I am currently taking 2700 mg per day in addition to Carbamazapine.
Avatar f tn said they were complex partial seizures and she went on dilantin and depakote then keppra and ended with trileptal and now on keppra and trileptal...seizures still are not controlled and she goes through cyles of increased seizures and memory loss and headaches and seizures seem to be getting more frequent and the keppra is terrible...and now they want to try lamitra or zonegran...every mediceine is so disruptive to her and do not control the seizures..
Avatar n tn Dear Drs, My daughter is two. She has been labeled developmentally delayed and deals with what our Neurologist calls "Severe Myoclonic Epilepsy" She is on Trileptal for that. She has had surgery for Strabismus (when she was 9 months) and we have to patch her strong eye 4 hours a day. Weekly, she has PT, OT and Speech therapy. She makes great eye contact, but we can't figure out what she actually understands. At this point, she is making sounds, but nothing seem purposeful.
707385 tn?1228925447 Hey everyone. My daughter started the head tilting at 10 months old. We spent a year and a half in and out of Children's Hospital in Dallas continually testing for epilepsy and nothing showed up on any of the EEG's...not even on the overnight video EEGs.
