1108262 tn?1273179266 DOES ANY ONE TAKE TRILEPTAL FOR BIPOLAR ??? IF SO HOW MUCH AND FOR HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TAKING IT??
Avatar f tn Is anyone on here taking Trileptal for bipolar? Any comments or results?
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
Avatar n tn There is some controversy about using antidepressants such as Zoloft for someone with bipolar depression. Have you consider Lamictal (lamotrigine) or Lithium? Re: Straterra, there have been reports of Straterra causing mania. Definitely not a reason to stop abruptly, but something to discuss with your pdoc. Re: Stelazine, this medication is used for psychosis or short-term for anxiety. How long have you been taking Stelazine?
Avatar m tn You may want to post this on Neurology forum if you are using Trileptal for seizure disorder or using it off-label for anxiety, depression or Bipolar Disorder. http://www.medhelp.
5032487 tn?1365824021 is there a MH drug out there for bipolar disorder that doesn't make you gain weght?...just wondering and without a side affect?
Avatar f tn ve been taking Trileptal 300mg and Lexapro 10mg for over six years now and I did well for a while but about seven months ago started loosing my grip on the situation again. Please reply!
5153554 tn?1365430705 The day before yesterday he told me he was only taking one Trileptal a day because it made him too sleepy. When he brandished the bottle of Trileptal in my face as evidence he was taking them it seemed suspiciously full. Meanwhile he's been holed up in his room playing video games non-stop all hours of the night, sleeping all day. Leaves only to go to his PT job. His room is like a bat cave. Dark & gloomy.
Avatar f tn Holiday blues can affect anyone, especially people with things like bipolar disorder. Depressive episodes I don't think are required for bipolar disorder 1 to be diagnosed and only mania is required but they frequently occur. With psychotic features just means you experience psychotic symptoms when manic and/or depressed but particularly while manic.
Avatar m tn I took ect from 4/2008 to 7/2009 and ended up with all kinds of problems. My memory is terrible, short term and long term. I've been on trileptal for 3 yrs and seroquel for a year. The seroquel helps but I put on a lot of weight. I'll never go back to ect.
Avatar n tn t have the same risk of blood dyscreias so there is no need for regular blood tests. Trileptal is gradually replacing Tegretol which is less in use now as Trileptal is much safer but has the same effect on mood stabilization. You should ask your psychiatrist about that. If you have any more questions about benefits issues ask me as I volunteer and do advocacy in that area. I'm sure there's a way you can find coverage.
Avatar m tn I have suffered from TN for 8 years now. Two MVD surgeries have failed and now I am waiting for a Rhizotomy. Meanwhile, the pain I'm encountering is unbelievable! Whereas 6 x 200mg of Carbamazepine used to keep things relatively under control, now I am at 17 x 200mg (3,400mg daily) and still suffer from unimaginable pain. My question is: What is the most effective dosing schedule should I use for Carbamazepine? Would that be 4 pills 4 times per day? Or perhaps 5 pills 3 times per day?
Avatar n tn Concerta and Trileptal are for ADHD and Mood Stabilizers usually for Anxiety yes. The Prevacid is a stomach acid reducer. Geodan is a bipolar medication. Depending on how long he has been on them, he may have an allergic reaction. Id research.
Avatar f tn Neurontin, Topomax, Keppra, Trileptal, Lovaza (anti-cholesterol medication used experimentally for bipolar it works like fish oil but is an FDA approved medication) and Clonidine (which I take having exhausted all other options). Those are only the ones I've tried and am familiar with. I wouldn't reccomend one over the other but speak to your psychiatrist about any of these options (or others listed on that site which is clinically accurate).
1235186 tn?1656987798 What he goes through with the moods changing every minute is called a mixed state, you probably have heard of that. Depakote works for alot of people but I have seen in mostly in cases of type 2s. The worst side effect from Lamictal is obviously Stephens Johnsons syndrom which is often fatal. I am sure you know that too. The main thing to observe is starting out at a low dose, 25 mg and slowly going up.
Avatar n tn I've been taking zyprexa for almost 6 months and am still suffering side effects. I get blurred vision and fogginess which makes it hard to concentrate. I'm sleepy all of the time and could fall asleep at my desk if I could. I've had bipolar disorder for 10 years and have never been sleepy all of the time. In the past, prior to this medicine, I've always had troubles sleeping. Does anyone else have the same problems as me?
Avatar f tn unfortunately, a lot of these meds do cause problems with weight gain. However, if you can possibly try to set yourself up on a plan (sometimes it takes forcing yourself at that beginning), to get out and walk everyday, it will help you a lot. It helps with the weight and with the mood. My son has this problem. He has bipolar schizoaffective disorder. He is on Clozaril, Effexor and Trileptal.
Avatar f tn His neurologist recently added Trileptal to balance his levels because he was having seizures so often. His therapist also prescribed him Celexal and Elavil for depression medication due to bipolar disorder. Now it seems that the 2 anti-depressants have a side effect of seizures, which causes him to seize more than usual. Should the 4 meds be mixed, Keppra, Celexa, Elavil and Trileptal?
Avatar f tn Its possible but it could also be caused by stopping the medication to quickly - called withdraws. i would suggest to him about seeing his doctor do what ever you can to get him there and go with him and suggest your concerns.
Avatar f tn Wellbutrin being an anti-depressent can sometimes worsen mania in bipolar. Lithium is highly effective but for some people can cause cognitive blunting and sedation. With antipsychotics, the newest ones Abilify, Fanapt and Saphris have less of a potential of weight gain but as they can change heart rhythms you would have to ask your psychiatrist if they could be used safely if you have heart valve problems.
Avatar m tn I was on lamictal and trileptal but had to switch to lithium as my insurance allowance for medication has run out and lamictal and trileptal costs about $500.00 per month. Befor the month is out I'll have to go to lithium and depakote until I can figure something else out.
1967424 tn?1325633780 Hmm. Are you diagnosed as bipolar I or II? Bipolar I is probably a good enough reason to be medicated in some way, since mania can be so destructive, but bipolar II with few episodes might be controllable with therapy. Depression can be quite destructive too, so the question is really how much does whatever mood disorder you have **** with your daily life, your happiness, and your ability to function?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed as having bipolar disorder about 6 or 7 years ago. I now take Trileptal to treat it, and it has definitely improved my life. It was never something anyone, but my family or close friends were even able to detect. I have never been hospitalized as a result of the bipolar nor has it ever affected my physical health in any way. However, I am unable to acquire any health insurance because of the diagnosis.
Avatar n tn htm For some people it has an easier to tolerate side effect profile than lithium. I found the side effect profile of Lamictal to be better as well as the efficacy but each person responds differently to each medication.
Avatar n tn Keep in mind that everything that works has side effects. Not everyone will get every side effect, and some are more likely than others, but you won't really know without trying, unfortunately. An off label use is one that the FDA hasn't approved the medication for, e.g. trazodone as a sleep aid (it's approved as an antidepressant).
Avatar f tn So I have been diagnosed by two different psychiatrists the first said bipolar II the second cyclomania. Also been diagnosed with ADHD but cannot take meds for it because of bipolar. Or maybe I am just bipolar and was misdiagnosed...anyways I have irritability, anger, mild depression, hypomania, am very figity, have sleeping problems...
Avatar f tn If a person has epilepsy since they were a child and requires an anti-convulsant it should be noted that some anti-convulsants are used as mood stabilizers such as Depakoate, Trileptal, Keppra and of course Lamictal (and others) but the dosage and adjustment for bipolar would be different. Since some medications can on occassion raise the seizure threshold it would involve a close conversation between your neurologist and psychiatrist as for what medication is right for you.
