Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal birth control

trileptal

Avatar f tn but i would like to share this with you lamictal and trileptal do affect birth control pills and vise verse i.e. you can get pregnant using these as they reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills by 40%to 50% ,,,,,,,,,,also (which done me a great harm) the birth control pills reduce the effect of BP meds up to 50% also. i read on some site (but i cannot remember which) that birth control pills can affect most of psychiatric meds.
763054 tn?1314053121 Before the end of 2008 I was taking Clonazepam, (1mg three times a day) Effexor XR (75 mgs 3 of them every morning) Trileptal (cannot remember dosage, but i took two in the morning and three in the evening) Seroquel (200mg once at night) and my birth control yasmin. This combination of medicine worked EXCELLENTLY after almost 10 years of testing out medications and was able to function MUCH better than ever in my lifetime. Mainly the addition of seroquel and trileptal.
471949 tn?1236904026 My son takes Trileptal for his Epilepsy...(he is 16)...it's affecting his memory more and more; does anyone else here take this med and have similar problems? His dosage is 900mg/twice a day. Any lower dose and his seizures return. This has been the only med that has been able to control his seizures. He has frontal lobe epilepsy with seizures that only occured in his sleep (with a couple of rare exceptions). Thanks for your help.
1212999 tn?1272305203 I've been taking these two for 2 months. 1800 mg trileptal 10 mg abilify. i'm doing a lot better (rages getting under control, manic moods lowered) but i'm still so depressed. my irritability is still off the charts. do you think adding another med will be the most likely next step or will my doc just keep raising my dosages?
Avatar m tn I was on Trileptal for a while. After that my psychiatrist transferred me to Lamictal. It took some time to have the withdrawal symptoms to pass (and the efficacy of the other medication to start) but it settled after some time. Generally things begin to improve within a few weeks. As long as you followed your psychiatrist's titration schedule it should be fine. Keep your psychiatrist updated on how you are doing and they will know how to follow up.
Avatar m tn Whereas 6 x 200mg of Carbamazepine used to keep things relatively under control, now I am at 17 x 200mg (3,400mg daily) and still suffer from unimaginable pain. My question is: What is the most effective dosing schedule should I use for Carbamazepine? Would that be 4 pills 4 times per day? Or perhaps 5 pills 3 times per day? Or 3 pills 5 times per day (i.e. - Getting up in the middle of the night for a dose.)? I feel right now my schedule is rather willy-nilly...
Avatar n tn She gets worse during the week before her period to the week after. She is on the 3 month birth control as of last month to see if this helps. We are going to the endocrinologist in 2 weeks for the annual checkup and to retest the hormone levels etc. Her brain is over active at night and she's on Lunesta as needed which seems to be every night.
1108262 tn?1273179266 t control, one so badly I ended up in an emergency room with a neurologist questioning if the Trileptal was causing the problem. After getting a new psych doctor and a therapist, we all decided to work together to get me off of Trileptal, as the pdoc felt it had not really helped me, and the therapist helped me deal with the depression and anxiety as well. Pdoc also was worried about the hyponatremia and "twitches".
796506 tn?1370188305 I would suspect the birth control, but if you've only been on it for a month then I it couldn't be that. I've read some things that might cause a short cycle likes yours, but I don't believe any of those would really apply. Growing up I had cycles like that, but mine eventually simi balanced and got more spaced out. (Not regular by any means, but there were a few weeks in-between them at least) It's good that you're going to the doctor.
Avatar f tn I gained about twenty pounds on Trileptal, (a very similar drug), in just a month, and now I am also switching to Zonegran. I'm still in the process of raising my dose, but thrilled that it's working well for your daughter!
Avatar f tn Due to the severe burning sensation I have in my hands from my current MS flare up, my neuro has put me on Trileptal. I have read great things about this med in regards to TN but not much about peripheral nerves. Anyone have any experience with this med for burning sensation NOT on the face? Hope you all are well!!
Avatar n tn The pain was an 11 on the 0-10 scale. Since the pain has only calmed down to a 7, my neuro added trileptal with the neurontin. The trileptal is being titrated and I'm at 750 mgs per day right now. Can anyone tell me at what dose of trileptal you got some relief from the constant crawling, burning, crushing type pains? Also does the side effect of nausea and just feeling crappy all over from trileptal eventually subside. I also have MS. Thank you.
1011826 tn?1274492712 After 3 months, I am down to 900 mg of Trileptal, 2 mg Xanax, and 150 mg daily, down from 1800 mg daily of TRileptal originally, and a VERY slow introduction of Lamictal into my system. Of course this happens on the weekend, otherwise I would have called the pdoc by now-- anyway, let me know. Help is appreciated!
233622 tn?1279334905 I have been on Tegretol for about 14 years...firstly for seizure control, secondly for pain management for Paratrigeminal Neuralgia (which differs from trigeminal neuralgia). I was intrigued by this drug when I saw your post so I looked into it. The following is copied and pasted from a website explaining anti-seizure meds... "The seizure control abstained with Trilepital is as good and in some situations better than with Tegretol.
Avatar m tn I am on 900mg of trileptal and had a healthy baby boy in 2013. I am still on the same meds and currently 10 weeks preggo again. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I am maybe just looking for a little reassurance. I was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder when I was 21 (9 years ago) and I've been on medications not recommended during pregnancy. I was taking the birth control you are only supposed to have 1 mp/3 mos, so I wasn't expecting it until the 2nd wk in Sept. When It never came I discovered I was pregnant and scheduled an appt with my Dr. The minute I found out, I stopped taking all medications.
2181099 tn?1337874414 Since there is great Birth control methods out there dont make such a drastic change to ur body since ur even questioning urself.
Avatar f tn Hi i have been on birth control almost 6 months now. And i bleed for 2 weeks every period. The first week its just a brown mild red spotting because im still on birth control and then the second week when im on the brown pill is when i actually get the full on effect of my period. Today i got my period again and im still not done with my normal birth control so i decided to skip to the brown pills this week and start a new pack once my brown pills are done.
Avatar f tn Can I get birth control without having an exam? I want birth control to regulate my period. I have never been sexually active but my period can go for 5-9 days not heavy or light flowing. It also has a range of 21-30 days in between periods. I do NOT like to be touched and have never had a successful relationship because of it.
1801864 tn?1318097993 I know that birth control can make you feel pregnant. But do you guys think I should get a pregnancy test? Me and my boyfriend have been having sex almost everyday and his been cumming inside me. and I was taking my birth control on time for a while but my life is getting stressed and I've been taking my birth control when ever I remember I have to take it. My tummy has cramp like feelings and my nipples are tender BUT I know that birth control can make that happen. SO what should I do.
Avatar f tn They asked me if I wanted birth control and I asked if it would interfere with breast feeding. He said I could get an iud which I don't want. Or get on a pill that's just progesterone. My question is..is anyone else on the pill and having or not having a problem with breast feeding?
Avatar f tn Im just curious ... if i was on birth control for about 2 - 2 1/2 years , but now im tryin to get pregnant ... if i was on birth control for a while will it take me time to get pregnant?
7670156 tn?1401987192 re all pregnant and all, but yesterday at my check up my doctor said I should start thinking about what kind of birth control I want after my baby girl is here. I've never been on birth control (and still did very well, baby was planned) what do you ladies suggest worked best for you? I don't want to worry about another baby for a long while at least a few years. And that implant that goes in your arm scares me.
