5032487 tn?1365824021 Remember that nothing that works will be side effect free for everyone. Lamictal is weight neutral, and is great for bipolar II, and packs most of its weight against depression. Geodon and Abilify are also supposed to be weight neutral, Geodon a little more so than Abilify. Trileptal is weight neutral as well, but its use in bipolar is technically off-label.
1967424 tn?1325633780 Are you diagnosed as bipolar I or II? Bipolar I is probably a good enough reason to be medicated in some way, since mania can be so destructive, but bipolar II with few episodes might be controllable with therapy. Depression can be quite destructive too, so the question is really how much does whatever mood disorder you have **** with your daily life, your happiness, and your ability to function?
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.

5153554 tn?1365430705 The day before yesterday he told me he was only taking one Trileptal a day because it made him too sleepy. When he brandished the bottle of Trileptal in my face as evidence he was taking them it seemed suspiciously full. Meanwhile he's been holed up in his room playing video games non-stop all hours of the night, sleeping all day. Leaves only to go to his PT job. His room is like a bat cave. Dark & gloomy.
Avatar f tn Holiday blues can affect anyone, especially people with things like bipolar disorder. Depressive episodes I don't think are required for bipolar disorder 1 to be diagnosed and only mania is required but they frequently occur. With psychotic features just means you experience psychotic symptoms when manic and/or depressed but particularly while manic.
Avatar m tn i have been bipolar for 20 years. i was taken off lithium 2 yrs ago because it was affecting my lithium--then i had a psychotic break and was hospitalized for over 8 wks. since then no meds have worked well for me and i was started on ect which has continued at intervals, now once every 2 wks. i feel the ect is helping me but is destroying my memory, both short and long term. now the doc wants to put me back on low dose lithium along with a med to protect my kidneys and monitor them closely.
Avatar n tn in most states where you can work and still be eligible for Medicaid as long as you have a disability and of course bipolar qualifies as a disability. You can inquire about benefits issues and all other disability advocacy at your local independent living center. There's one in every county of every state. This has all of them listed. 1310468 tn?1274863925 Lamotrigine and some other anti-convulsant medications are approved for maintenance treatment in bipolar I disorder, because they have something to do with altering the excitability threshold of certain neurons. We're not yet entirely sure how that helps to control mood instability in bipolar disorder, but they are proven to be very effective in this regard. The good thing about lamotrigine in particular is that it can also have an anti-depressant on top of the mood stabilization!
Avatar n tn Student takes Geodan, Trileptal, Resperdal, Prevacid, and Concerta. He is 19 years old. Could this be anxiety related. I surfed the web and could not find any information.

1965148 tn?1354978634 06 Bipolar I Disorder, Single Manic Episode, In Full Remission The difference between bipolar I and bipolar II is that bipolar one may require hospitalization with or without psychosis, while you don't need hospitalization for hypomania of bipolar II. From ************.com - Hypomanic episodes have the same symptoms as manic episodes with two important differences: (1) the mood usually isn't severe enough to cause problems with the person working or socializing with others (e.g.
Avatar f tn Neurontin, Topomax, Keppra, Trileptal, Lovaza (anti-cholesterol medication used experimentally for bipolar it works like fish oil but is an FDA approved medication) and Clonidine (which I take having exhausted all other options). Those are only the ones I've tried and am familiar with. I wouldn't reccomend one over the other but speak to your psychiatrist about any of these options (or others listed on that site which is clinically accurate).
Avatar f tn The key difference between bipolar I and bipolar II is that bipolar II has hypomanic but not manic episodes. Also, while those with bipolar I disorder may experience additional psychotic symptoms such as delusions and hallucinations, bipolar II by definition cannot have psychotic features.
Avatar n tn I see my mom act this way and my son so is this all heriditary (bipolar) or is it really bipolar. some of us are born with brains that are different then others where are brain moves very fast and then we sometimes people look at us like we are crazy when we can't help that all these thoughts flood through our brains so fast.
1572437 tn?1296145397 Greetings! I just found this site a few days ago and just now discovered this forum. My name is Lydia, and I am Bipolar II, GAD and a bit OCD. I know, it's a mouthful, right! Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and give a big "hello" to everyone.
Avatar f tn unfortunately, a lot of these meds do cause problems with weight gain. However, if you can possibly try to set yourself up on a plan (sometimes it takes forcing yourself at that beginning), to get out and walk everyday, it will help you a lot. It helps with the weight and with the mood. My son has this problem. He has bipolar schizoaffective disorder. He is on Clozaril, Effexor and Trileptal.
Avatar n tn I've been taking zyprexa for almost 6 months and am still suffering side effects. I get blurred vision and fogginess which makes it hard to concentrate. I'm sleepy all of the time and could fall asleep at my desk if I could. I've had bipolar disorder for 10 years and have never been sleepy all of the time. In the past, prior to this medicine, I've always had troubles sleeping. Does anyone else have the same problems as me?
