Trileptal and weight gain side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal and weight gain side effects

trileptal

5032487 tn?1365824021 I understand Lamictal is good for this. No weight gain and no side effects, however can also have the opposite effect and may make depression worse. I am not bipolar but have been doing research since my husband was diagnosed. Definitely talk with your doctor. Best of luck!
Avatar f tn It seems that many anti-epileptics cause weight gain, and other side effects.
Avatar f tn I already have a metabolic disorder and cannot gain weight. Its very, very hard for me to lose weight. Anyway, I know it can cause vision problems, can make you high at times, bad headaches, etc. I already have migraines and acctually have not had the headaches yet that almost 90% of people get along with dizziness and weakness. I had bad vision problems and was legally blind w/o contacts or glasses.
Avatar n tn because it apparently causes major cognitive side effects in a lot of people. And olanzapine is a huge weight gain causer in a lot of people. Maybe you should try a food and exercise diary to keep track of what you're eating and whether it changes. I think olanzapine (and other AAPs) can cause carb cravings, at least in some people. If you want more info on meds, google CrazyMeds.
Avatar f tn I am supposed to start trileptal this morning but worried about the side effects particularly dizzines. Has anyone had these symptoms? what are the likelyhood that I would become dizzy and nauseas while taking trileptal? I will be starting out w/ 150mg twice daily for 3 days then increasing?
1374874 tn?1278686480 But, I am very sensitive to medicine. Tegretol will help you GAIN weight! Neurontin is just as bad and is used on too many patients for too many reasons most lately. I would try the newer one, Trileptal if given a choice. But, it is also more expensive, Try to start out on the lowest dosage and step it up to find the right dosage.
Avatar n tn We were just prescribed this for my son who is 8. He spent the last 3 years fighting outbursts which included throwing things, hitting others, screaming, crying, and not being able to cope with things he didnt like the answer to. He started Trileptal in August and we saw huge improvement. but 2 months ago the doc added Guanfacine and Clonidine to help. then things became bad again. And guanfacine is not easy to come off of. We lately we have had outburts like previous to trileptal.
Avatar f tn some meds will cause weight gain and others may cause weight loss--it all depends on the person and the dose.Your doctor would know more about this.
Avatar f tn I am on Clonidine which is used experimentally for bipolar and though it has a fair amount of side effects it does work. And there are more options as well. I post about the ones I know about. You need a concrete diagnosis as to what mood disorder you have and from there if you've tried known medications and need to try lesser known (but FDA approved for other purposes) mood stabilizers, I'd suggest your psychiatrist refer you to a mood disorders specialist.
Avatar f tn Where I come from (Egypt) pdocs are more accustomed to writing tegretol. They also say since it is old the complications and side effects are known to them. Lamictal in all yahooforums is more reputable i 've seen everybody on it. except for rashes. but tegretol does too. I would have thought - contrary to what you sai- that tegretol is more effective because all pdocs have 3 options (lithium, depakot, tregretol) so it is thought the 3 most effective.
Avatar f tn Ive been on my BC for over two years so no weight gain from it. I have started celexa and trileptal for depression, but the side effects re aupposed to be weight loss. I took an at home test and it was negative but its a bit early to take the test.
397118 tn?1219762250 Thanks well my sub doctor is the one that gave me the rx fo WB so I guess is ok, and I was taking lexapro and trileptal and it was killing me weigh gain and no energy I mean nothing so Friday I ask my doctor to change it He wanted me to taper the trileptal (mood stabilizer) but of course I didn't listen is been 3 days of those and doing ok started the WB on Sat.
Avatar m tn That went away and now its light weakness and numbness in the left side of my body. I am taking 1200 mg and am supposed to see a neurologist tomorrow hoping he will take it off. Any advice or feedback???
Avatar f tn No joke,,,so,,,,,what would complement my lamictal without awful side effects like substantial weight gain and thinning hair? HELP ME!!!!!
1100992 tn?1262357216 I found Lamictal the most tolerable out of the 3 and it worked specifically on rapid cycling and mixed states and could not tolerate Tegretol, Trileptal and Depakoate because of personality changes (but that's a potential side effect of all anti-convulsants used as mood stabilizers including the one I take now) but each person responds differently to each medication although generally, side effect profile aside as it is the only medication approved as a mood stabilizer before any other usa
1246883 tn?1285547973 The other meds I am taking should not effect my weight. I've been on them for over a year with no problems. And most of them don't have weight gain as part of their side effects. Yes, my thyroid has been checked out . Actually my hypothyroidism was diagnosed months before I start the weight gain. I've had all the tests you can imagine. The last one left is checking my cortisol level. I should those test results back next week.
1212999 tn?1272305203 thanks for your answer. i will be talking to her more about maybe adding/switching to a new med. but i hate just switching. i get used to what i take and hate having to get used to a new set of side effects. :) a lot of times i don't think people give their meds enough time to really work because they cannot push through side effects.
1798419 tn?1315810427 How long do the side effect last?? And is weight gain a common side effect? My doctor swore black and blue that she had never come across a person who gained weight, and that it was more common to loose it on effexor. I'm a recovering bulimic so weight gain is a very scary thing for me, i wish it wasnt but it is..
Avatar m tn Trileptal is a newer drug than Tegretol (carbamazapine) and is supposed to have less side effects than Tegretol. You do have to have blood tests every three months because it can affect the sodium levels in your blood, which could lead to kidney problems. I went through 6 doctors before I found a Facial Pain Specialist at a large teaching hospital that actually helped me.
Avatar f tn s virtually nothing that helps stop weight gain from antidepressants except stopping them, but if this is working well for you, and you really need meds, it's not easy to find ones that work well. There is a book that discusses this called The AntiDepressant Survival Guide.
2047903 tn?1330187549 I'm wondering if anyone else has numb fingertips as a side effect from Trileptal...I am currently taking 600 mg. I'm also being worked up for MS, so I don't know if this is from the drug I take for TN or from some other cause?? Thanks.
Avatar n tn 2/ Is it common to GAIN weight while taking Synthroid? If so, how hard to go back to normal weight and after how long? 3/ Is it more difficult to get pregnant while on Synthroid? 4/ Is it a given that once someone start taking Synthroid (or any other thyroid med for hypo), it's for life? 5/ should i have my baby tested for thyroid problems? Would love to read your experiences and feedback. thanks! hyponofun :( This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn My doctor recently switched me to Bystolic - and I was given "samples" for a month but no instruction sheet or counter-indications as far as drug interaction. Would there be any problem with the above that I am taking and this drug? Also, I just lost (and want to continue to lose weight) 16 pounds on a diet program and don't want to regain that weight! Does Bystolic cause weight gain?
20813548 tn?1519654796 I just wondered why you chose to post here on a thyroid forum? Do you possibly have a problem with hypothyroidism that causes low metabolism and weight gain?
