trileptal and neuropathy

That's very interesting! I havent heard of seizure meds being used for MS. Although I am on Keppra now for a week due to recent seizures. I have been wondering all along if I have MS although testing thus far has not proven so. Erica mentioned side effects, I have to agree: i couldn't take trileptal and now seem to be having some problems with Keppra and am on a very very low dose 125mg twice daily, supposed to increase tomorrow but think I will wait another week before I do.

I cannot take steriods because they cause hysteria in me. The elavil, topamax, trileptal and IV treatments worked for a time, but the neuropathy seems to have broken through these drugs. Since stress seems to be a trigger (only during a flare up, I can deal with stress and life in a remission) my neurologist wants to try buspar, but ... I seem to think that I had a bad experience with that drug, but it was in the beginning of all of this ... can't remember the specifics.

Not sure if peripheal neuropathy is one of the symptoms MS patients experience.I'm not diabetic,so not sure why I have it in my feet.But last night felt it traveling into my legs...Yeeowww! Needless to say,I slept 'til after noon today!

I was lucky and after 3 procedures have been pain free and medication free for almost 4 years. So I was able to wean off the Trileptal under doctors orders.

Just wanted to ask if anyone has experienced swollen glands and itchy eyes when taking trileptal? I've only been on it now for 3wks and am currently on 75mg along with 375mg of Keppra twice daily. I don't have a rash but am wondering if this is just a cold or side effect from meds. I called the nurse yesterday at docs office they suggested being checked out by PMD, any suggestions? I dont have a fever or any other symptoms? Thanks for the feedback.

I have been seeing a neurologist since October of last year. So far, he has diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia, Peripheral Neuropathy, Mild spinal stenosis, and idiopathic chronic pain syndrome. Every medication we have tried starts out helping and within weeks stops working. He says I am building up "tolerances" to the meds really fast and he cannot explain it. I am so very tired of the pain, numbness, burning, cramping, et al. Any ideas?

Hi, I'm new to the sight but have been doing research on Trileptal and MS. I currently take Trileptal for Partial Seizures (my seizures are well controlled with it) but whenever I miss 2 doses in a row (which I obviously try not to), I experience numbness and tingling in my face and head. I know these are symptoms of MS and I know Trileptal can be used for MS patients to help with nerve issues. I guess my question is should I see my neurologist?

Hi. I was diagnosed with ATN 14 years ago. The pain has been well-controlled with neurontin until 3 weeks ago. I had an exacerbation of pain, most likely brought on by dental work. The pain was an 11 on the 0-10 scale. Since the pain has only calmed down to a 7, my neuro added trileptal with the neurontin. The trileptal is being titrated and I'm at 750 mgs per day right now.

Due to the severe burning sensation I have in my hands from my current MS flare up, my neuro has put me on Trileptal. I have read great things about this med in regards to TN but not much about peripheral nerves. Anyone have any experience with this med for burning sensation NOT on the face? Hope you all are well!!

Dear Sir, Thank you very much for your reply, I ve taken a holiday by the beach i went for swiming walking trying to laugh and forget about my problems and it helped a lot, Now with the calmepam i have reduced the dose gradually i started to take half of the tablet for 5 days then i stopped for 2 days then i started to take quarter of the tablet every two days till i stopped now (almost from 5 days) is it okay?.

After 3 months, I am down to 900 mg of Trileptal, 2 mg Xanax, and 150 mg daily, down from 1800 mg daily of TRileptal originally, and a VERY slow introduction of Lamictal into my system. Of course this happens on the weekend, otherwise I would have called the pdoc by now-- anyway, let me know. Help is appreciated!

currently 6ml in the a.m. and 8ml in the p.m. (the concentration is 300mg/5ml.) About 2 weeks ago, his dose of Trileptal was increased from 6ml twice a day to the present dosage (because he was still having some mild break-through seizures). Around the same time, his teacher has mentioned that he is not "listening" well to her directions, and sometimes she has to re-explain her directions to him.

I am on 900mg of trileptal and had a healthy baby boy in 2013. I am still on the same meds and currently 10 weeks preggo again. Good luck.

Is anyone taking Trileptal for Touretts and OCD combined. My 13 year old daughter does. Does not help as much as Abilfy but does not have the hunger issue either.

m on in the last 3 months is zofran for nausea and they raised my trileptal from 300mg to 600mg when I had the seizure. Most of these symptoms can be associated with the Peg/Riba (including neuropathy ) I just didn't know if this shoulder pain could be a delayed pain from the injury. After the treatment we are going to evaluate and figure out how to treat the back pain, but we wanted to get the hcv taken care of first.

Hi, I'm on trileptal, and I'm so tired, dizzy, I just stop taking morning pil because i can't drive to work. I will call my doc. I tell him about this. This drug is really something. But what I read, all this medicines are like this.

I lost my medical insurance and need help with maintaining my prescription of Trileptal. I was told that the internet coupons may not be available in Maine where I live. Other assistance, maybe directly from manufacture? Only need assistance for 6 mos.

Hi Candis - Welcome to the group. Body and mind going haywire is a pretty good definition of MS :-) Given that MS is a progressive disease you may be experiencing progression. It sounds like these are new symptoms. If you have discussed these symptoms with your neuro, and he prescribed the Zoloft and clonazepam, I would tell him that the meds don't seem to be working. There are many drugs available to deal with the many faces of neuropathy.

Ok so, I have been taking the's meds for like 2 months now. I am taking 150 mg of Zoloft and 1800 mg of Trileptal daily. I have been very emotional, like it's that time of the month but it's not, for the last week and for like 2 days now, just randomly I smell weird as ****... Like I was warming up some pizza rolls and it smelled like sweaty day old gym clothes and then I heated up something else and it smelled like day old pissy clothes... Is this normal??

I have neuropathy and am going on Lyrica or Trileptal. It is not MS but it is painful. My inflamed lymph nodes are pressing on nerves. My neck is sore, my back is sore. It hurts when I breath. So people with neuropathy not related to MS can be in plenty of pain. I just thought of peripheral neuropathy. The doctor wants to send me to hospice but I am not ready.

My new doctor does not agree because I don't have any signs of weakness in my extremities. My symptoms are feelings similar to what you'd feel when someone scratches their nails down a chalkboard. They started in my left foot and shot up that leg. It has spread up my torso, head, face, and right extremities.

I have been on Trileptal for about 4 years now. I began it because I had trouble with sleepiness and general fatigue on Tegretol, and the blood tests bothered me. At first Trileptal worked, but the effect lessened over time as I built up tolerance and we (doc and I) kept tweaking it until I was on 1800 mg a day and it still wasn't really working. I also have generalized anxiety disorder, so she added Xanax into the mix.

However, since this is day one of 100 mg, could this go away? LMK. Also, am on Trileptal (1800 mg/day, with 300 mg in am and 1500 mg in pm) and Xanax (between 1 1/2 to 2 mg/ day depending on anxiety symptoms). The doctor wants to get Lamictal into my system and then decrease Trileptal slowly as our next step. Anyway, any comments on these side effects? Thanks for your help!!

I just started taking oxcarbazepine 9 days ago and I built up to 300 mg,no high not even close.Not like with other drugs like oxycontin, were with in 30 min you get a buzz.I guess you have to take higher doses if thats were you want to go,but I dont know.

My wife has been taking Tegretol 200mg X 3 tines a day, this has caused her to be disorientated and nauseous & still in pain, she is trying Trileptal 300mg X 3, whilst cutting out the Tegretol. My question is how much Trileptal can she take ??????

HI, was on trileptal for seizure control. but it lowered my sodium, and also I had a seizure on it. so its been two weeks since I stopped the the dose completely. I still get lots of anxiety. Not sure if its due to weaning or not. I was taken from 1050 mg a day to 0 in 4-6 weeks.
