Trileptal and mood disorders

Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal and mood disorders

trileptal

Avatar n tn Abilify is specifically FDA approved for both mood disorders and psychotic disorders. If a person has a mood disorder that would have any type of psychosis as part of it they would most likely need an antipsychotic. Otherwise there are a wide variety of mood stabilizers although only a psychiatrist would understand the clinical specifics.
Avatar f tn s used for mood disorders. I currently take medication for depression/anxiety unrelated to my MS, and I know that when I miss a dose I feel it within a few hours. This is usually in the form of headache and nausea though. It wouldn't hurt to bring it up to your doctor to establish that nothing else is at play here.
Avatar f tn As for mood stabilizers you can go to the links page but assuming you tried Lithium and Depakoate (which are the most used mood stabilizers) there is Trileptal, Topomax, Keppra and Neurontin. Those are more in use. Lovaza is an anti-cholesterol medication used experimentally for bipolar and it works in the same manner as fish oil. That is FDA approved and has shown promising results.
585414 tn?1288941302 Its important that when people run out of standard mood stabilizers that some of the remaining choices do have potential side effects of concern, especially personality alterations. That's why some of them aren't often used. I've been through every mood stabilizer. Could detail but it would go on for pages. But after the common ones proved intolerable Keppra caused suicidal ideations. Trileptal caused an agitated mixed state.
207227 tn?1271416978 I assume you wohld likr some support with this and there are some here that undertand behavioral issues and mood disorders along cognitive disturbances. I am one and will do my best.
Avatar n tn currently 6ml in the a.m. and 8ml in the p.m. (the concentration is 300mg/5ml.) About 2 weeks ago, his dose of Trileptal was increased from 6ml twice a day to the present dosage (because he was still having some mild break-through seizures). Around the same time, his teacher has mentioned that he is not "listening" well to her directions, and sometimes she has to re-explain her directions to him.
Avatar f tn I was on Clonidine until recently which is a blood pressure pill but used experimentally for mood stabilization but it made me severely depressed so I asked and it was discontinued and I am looking around, having tried about 15-20 of them, everything that's out there in fact.
Avatar f tn Or have we just been blessed with Bulemia, anorexia and Epilepsy and there is no coincidence? Is her new mood changes leading to her eating disorders? her meds leading us to this? I am sssooooo panicked about what to do next... panicked. Any advise I would be eternally grateful for?
2080404 tn?1643113754 My doctor just took me off Lithium and what I was taking to sleep- Trazadone- and switched me to Tegretol and Ambien. I have Bi polar type II and Borderline Personality Disorder with Ultradian cycles. I just joined this site while doing absent-minded research browsing on the two disorders and decided "why not?". Set up a profile and even trackers which is something else. But I can't help but find purely scientific facts about the medicines, has anyone been on them?
Avatar f tn Thank you for the list of meds... Every time I have to change meds my psych dr acts like she can't think of any other meds to put me on. I was on klonopin for years and it became ineffective which is why I am now on xanax.
Avatar n tn what are the side effect of taking zoloft and lamictal and xanax together
Avatar f tn Hello, i'm not sure if they have the same Knowledge but i spoke with a lady in the naturpath store about Bi polar and Schizoaffective which i've been diagnosed with and she told me her mother also diagnosed with the Bi polar part takes fish oil and a muli B vitamin ( strong dose ) and Niacin B3 (flushed) and she's been stable for some time with her other treatments of medication and therapy regular exercise and a good healthy diet , hope it's of some help and best wishe's
Avatar m tn I have two young children and unfortunately I lost my father on January 2nd 2009 and my ex-husband from drowning on May 15th 2010. I'm feeling very anxious, lonely and depressed and get a sick feeling in my stomach fpr fear of being lonely. I presently live with my mom but I know too that she is suffering from her loss as well. She's lost her friends due to the death of my father and unfortunately I never developed friends with my ex-husband due to his alcoholism.
Avatar n tn Food allergies to preservatives and dyes in foods can do this and is one possibility. Get your daughter on an all raw, natural diet. Take away anything that is not a pure low sugar, low bad fat (keep good fats). Make sure her drink of choice is waters and limit the milk do to sugar contents and lactose related mood swings etc. Then be strict in teaching her right from wrong and limit tv to reinforce a positive atmosphere while she is adjusting to new diet.
1393793 tn?1280186502 Ive had severe depression ever since my husband passed away and cant seem to snap outta it.Ive been on every medication and 4-6diff psychiatrists and nothings worked.I have no energy, dont wanna get outta bed, lost my friends, house, filed bankruptcy, and thats just a few of the things it's caused me.I wanna try that brain zapping method EMT or whatever its called because Im so desperate and already lost 3years to this. Can you suggest anything I need help!!
Avatar f tn Admission to having a mood disorder appears to be fashionable lately; thanks, in large part, to campaigning groups encouraging celebrities to "out" themselves. With all this talk about disorders - what is "mood order"? and how does "mood order" go from being ordered to being disordered - sometimes seemingly overnight?!
3178266 tn?1344536316 You need to call your OB right NOW and tell him what is going on. You need to come clean and tell him all of the drugs you have been taking during your pregnancy, including the Seroquel (you need to be 100% honest and tell him EVERYTHING). How far along are you? Have you received ANY prenatal care? This is a dire situation, and I cannot stress enough the importance of contacting your doctor right NOW....before irrepairable damage is done to your baby...or you AND the baby die. Seriously..
Avatar f tn Can you be bipolar and only experience manic symptoms? It's my son and I am bipolar. I know it's hereditary. I experience both manic and depressed episodes. He does not get depressed, but shows many signs of being manic.
Avatar n tn ve never heard of controlling behaviour being part of bipolar disorder. Bipolar is about periods of elevated mood (rage and euphoria) and depressed mood (both of which must be present for a diagnosis) whereas controlling behaviour is more of a stable, non-mood-related thing. I think lilymoon's suggestion is best. A counsellor should be able to provide a safe, fair environment where you both can work out what has gone wrong and what can be done.
Avatar n tn Unless she is a hazard to herself or others let them continue to evaluate her but keep a log of her moods and what triggers them, etc - even the weather and people, can trigger mood changes. Good luck....
1100992 tn?1262357216 I found Lamictal the most tolerable out of the 3 and it worked specifically on rapid cycling and mixed states and could not tolerate Tegretol, Trileptal and Depakoate because of personality changes (but that's a potential side effect of all anti-convulsants used as mood stabilizers including the one I take now) but each person responds differently to each medication although generally, side effect profile aside as it is the only medication approved as a mood stabilizer before any other usa
Avatar m tn s a link to a well known mood disorders specialist and experimental medications in off label use and of course there are more beyond that but keep yourself updated and get a referral to a mood disorders specialist and I'm sure they will find the right combination: http://www.psycom.net/depression.central.bipolar.
Avatar f tn For the last 6 years I've been seeing my psychiatrist every 4 weeks. For the last 2 years she's been pushing Tegretol on me. That's in addition to Abilify, Buspar, Lexapro, and Tofranil. The last time I was hospitalized for psychiatric reasons the psychiatrist there in the hospital put me on 600mg of Tegretol nightly. I was a zombie for the 6 months that I gave it a full shot.
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
Avatar f tn ve been taking Trileptal 300mg and Lexapro 10mg for over six years now and I did well for a while but about seven months ago started loosing my grip on the situation again. Please reply!
