Trileptal and mood disorder

Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal and mood disorder

trileptal

Avatar n tn Abilify is specifically FDA approved for both mood disorders and psychotic disorders. If a person has a mood disorder that would have any type of psychosis as part of it they would most likely need an antipsychotic. Otherwise there are a wide variety of mood stabilizers although only a psychiatrist would understand the clinical specifics.
Avatar f tn ve been taking Trileptal 300mg and Lexapro 10mg for over six years now and I did well for a while but about seven months ago started loosing my grip on the situation again. Please reply!
1134609 tn?1269272200 Lamictal and Neurontin actually are mood stabilizers. Klonopin is an anti-anxiety medication used as a mood stabilizer. Clinically in general the most effective mood stabilizer is lithium but each person reacts differently to each medication. Seroquel causing mania is rare. My experience with mood stabilizers was different from yours because I responded very well to Lamictal and Seroquel (which is an antipsychotic used as a mood stabilizer).
207227 tn?1271416978 I have to get after her to bathe. We went to a child psychiatrist who diagnosed her with nonspecific mood disorder and prescribed Trileptal. I was concerned about giving her the meds and decided to go the route of counseling. At this point, I am thinking of trying the meds. I am concerned about side effects and how children do on this medication. Does anyone have experience with this drug in children? I am also wondering if she really needs it.
Avatar n tn 75mg zyprexa, 50mg Topimax, 300mg Seroquel, and 350mg Trileptal at nightime. I take 300mg Lamictal and 350mg Trileptal every morning. I sleep all night, and want to sleep more. I've had bloodwork done the past few months and my thyroid always comes back alright. I see my counselor every other week, but it is really difficult to get a work in appointment with my psychiatrist. He's always booked for the next 3 months and it's very frustrating for me.
Avatar f tn freddie8605 hit the nail on the head. He could be bipolar, but it could also be caused by stopping the medication. I was put on an anti-psychotic to help assist my anti-depressant, and when I abruptly stopped taking it I went all sorts of weird (and that was with just two weeks of taking it). I was happy and angry at the same time, couldn't sleep properly, just really didn't give two about anything around me or about how my actions were affecting others.
Avatar n tn What you should do is review Scientific American, which suggests that bi-polar disorder is the result of a specific infectious agent, and is in actuality an auto-immune disorder, rather than something caused by poor toilet training. And the good news is they have identified an organism. And there are clinical trials overseas on a drug that will counteract the affects.
Avatar f tn His neurologist recently added Trileptal to balance his levels because he was having seizures so often. His therapist also prescribed him Celexal and Elavil for depression medication due to bipolar disorder. Now it seems that the 2 anti-depressants have a side effect of seizures, which causes him to seize more than usual. Should the 4 meds be mixed, Keppra, Celexa, Elavil and Trileptal?
Avatar n tn I have not actually been given more than a hazy diagnosis. No offense intended to the professionals, but, every psychiatrist seems to hedge when I ask what my diagnosis is, or why the particular med is being prescribed and what it will do.
Avatar m tn Yes right now I am taking lithium and trileptal. I was on lamictal and trileptal but had to switch to lithium as my insurance allowance for medication has run out and lamictal and trileptal costs about $500.00 per month. Befor the month is out I'll have to go to lithium and depakote until I can figure something else out.
Avatar f tn As for mood stabilizers you can go to the links page but assuming you tried Lithium and Depakoate (which are the most used mood stabilizers) there is Trileptal, Topomax, Keppra and Neurontin. Those are more in use. Lovaza is an anti-cholesterol medication used experimentally for bipolar and it works in the same manner as fish oil. That is FDA approved and has shown promising results.
Avatar f tn I went to a psychiotrist 3 weeks ago who took me off both of those meds and put me on Seroquel 150mg and trileptal 1200mg. Last week she upped the seroquel to 300mg and my trileptal to 1500mg. I now cant function at all i cant concentrate, i cant sleep all i want to do is eat. I wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat and i am soaking wet.. I don't understand what is going on can someone please help me??
Avatar m tn I lost my medical insurance and need help with maintaining my prescription of Trileptal. I was told that the internet coupons may not be available in Maine where I live. Other assistance, maybe directly from manufacture? Only need assistance for 6 mos.
Avatar f tn unfortunately, a lot of these meds do cause problems with weight gain. However, if you can possibly try to set yourself up on a plan (sometimes it takes forcing yourself at that beginning), to get out and walk everyday, it will help you a lot. It helps with the weight and with the mood. My son has this problem. He has bipolar schizoaffective disorder. He is on Clozaril, Effexor and Trileptal.
5153554 tn?1365430705 I've vented often on here. It really helps. As I've stated in other posts my son & I were just diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder - he has I, I'm guessing i have I but My Pdoc did not specify, but our treatments by different docs have been similar. We both were initially on Lamictal. The first time me son stopped taking his meds, after being committed, he ended up committed again less than 3 weeks later for suicidal thoughts.
Avatar f tn You have been through all the commonly used mood stabilizers from what I am aware of unless different antipsychotics are tried as mood stabilizers as all atypical antipsychotics are FDA approved as mood stabilizers. Trileptal has worked for some people I know (its use has generally replaced Tegretol as they are clinically similar but its safer and doesn't require blood work). Topomax is generally used as an adjunct mood stabilizer. There are others as well.
1108262 tn?1273179266 DOES ANY ONE TAKE TRILEPTAL FOR BIPOLAR ??? IF SO HOW MUCH AND FOR HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TAKING IT??
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm new to the sight but have been doing research on Trileptal and MS. I currently take Trileptal for Partial Seizures (my seizures are well controlled with it) but whenever I miss 2 doses in a row (which I obviously try not to), I experience numbness and tingling in my face and head. I know these are symptoms of MS and I know Trileptal can be used for MS patients to help with nerve issues. I guess my question is should I see my neurologist?
Avatar f tn If a person has epilepsy since they were a child and requires an anti-convulsant it should be noted that some anti-convulsants are used as mood stabilizers such as Depakoate, Trileptal, Keppra and of course Lamictal (and others) but the dosage and adjustment for bipolar would be different. Since some medications can on occassion raise the seizure threshold it would involve a close conversation between your neurologist and psychiatrist as for what medication is right for you.
Avatar f tn Trileptal and Seroquel but they are not working. I am taking myself of the trileptal now. i am off the seroquel completely now. Like you said I have grown immune to them. I have an appt to see my psych doc soon. I had printed out a list of meds so hopefully we are able to get the right ones.
1100992 tn?1262357216 I found Lamictal the most tolerable out of the 3 and it worked specifically on rapid cycling and mixed states and could not tolerate Tegretol, Trileptal and Depakoate because of personality changes (but that's a potential side effect of all anti-convulsants used as mood stabilizers including the one I take now) but each person responds differently to each medication although generally, side effect profile aside as it is the only medication approved as a mood stabilizer before any other usa
2080404 tn?1643113754 My doctor just took me off Lithium and what I was taking to sleep- Trazadone- and switched me to Tegretol and Ambien. I have Bi polar type II and Borderline Personality Disorder with Ultradian cycles. I just joined this site while doing absent-minded research browsing on the two disorders and decided "why not?". Set up a profile and even trackers which is something else. But I can't help but find purely scientific facts about the medicines, has anyone been on them?
Avatar f tn For the last 6 years I've been seeing my psychiatrist every 4 weeks. For the last 2 years she's been pushing Tegretol on me. That's in addition to Abilify, Buspar, Lexapro, and Tofranil. The last time I was hospitalized for psychiatric reasons the psychiatrist there in the hospital put me on 600mg of Tegretol nightly. I was a zombie for the 6 months that I gave it a full shot.
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
Avatar m tn t say which is best to use but Lamictal was the most effective for me as well as other people and generally used more than the others. Trileptal unlike Tegretol (which its clinically similar to) does not require a blood test. Neurontin and Topomax don't but they are generally used as adjuncts. I was not able to tolerate Keppra because of personality changes and its not used often for this exact reason.
5032487 tn?1365824021 Someone mentioned trileptal above and I have taken that before too. I just wanted to compare it to topomax- they are both anti-convulsants/ anti seizure medication. I do not know if they are both used in treating bi-polar, topomax is for sure. The trileptal was given to me for panic attacks- or my moods I don't remember. I know it worked well. Anyway, if you like the weight your at try one of the above mentioned options.
