Trileptal and mood

Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal and mood

trileptal

Avatar n tn Abilify is specifically FDA approved for both mood disorders and psychotic disorders. If a person has a mood disorder that would have any type of psychosis as part of it they would most likely need an antipsychotic. Otherwise there are a wide variety of mood stabilizers although only a psychiatrist would understand the clinical specifics.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm new to the sight but have been doing research on Trileptal and MS. I currently take Trileptal for Partial Seizures (my seizures are well controlled with it) but whenever I miss 2 doses in a row (which I obviously try not to), I experience numbness and tingling in my face and head. I know these are symptoms of MS and I know Trileptal can be used for MS patients to help with nerve issues. I guess my question is should I see my neurologist?
1100992 tn?1262357216 I found Lamictal the most tolerable out of the 3 and it worked specifically on rapid cycling and mixed states and could not tolerate Tegretol, Trileptal and Depakoate because of personality changes (but that's a potential side effect of all anti-convulsants used as mood stabilizers including the one I take now) but each person responds differently to each medication although generally, side effect profile aside as it is the only medication approved as a mood stabilizer before any other usa
Avatar f tn For the last 6 years I've been seeing my psychiatrist every 4 weeks. For the last 2 years she's been pushing Tegretol on me. That's in addition to Abilify, Buspar, Lexapro, and Tofranil. The last time I was hospitalized for psychiatric reasons the psychiatrist there in the hospital put me on 600mg of Tegretol nightly. I was a zombie for the 6 months that I gave it a full shot.
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
Avatar f tn ve been taking Trileptal 300mg and Lexapro 10mg for over six years now and I did well for a while but about seven months ago started loosing my grip on the situation again. Please reply!
Avatar m tn t say which is best to use but Lamictal was the most effective for me as well as other people and generally used more than the others. Trileptal unlike Tegretol (which its clinically similar to) does not require a blood test. Neurontin and Topomax don't but they are generally used as adjuncts. I was not able to tolerate Keppra because of personality changes and its not used often for this exact reason.
967145 tn?1247497890 i am taking this medication carbamazepin. is this a mood stablelizer? i have taken it before and this time i feel really weird! like the other night me and my husband was sleeping, and i heard myself talking to my husband but i knew that i was asleep! and my heart started racing really fast? is this suppose to happen? or do i need diferent meds?
Avatar n tn Trileptal is gradually replacing Tegretol which is less in use now as Trileptal is much safer but has the same effect on mood stabilization. You should ask your psychiatrist about that. If you have any more questions about benefits issues ask me as I volunteer and do advocacy in that area. I'm sure there's a way you can find coverage. And if you are unable to work because of your disability apply for SSI/SSDI now not later so you can be eligible.
1134609 tn?1269272200 Lamictal and Neurontin actually are mood stabilizers. Klonopin is an anti-anxiety medication used as a mood stabilizer. Clinically in general the most effective mood stabilizer is lithium but each person reacts differently to each medication. Seroquel causing mania is rare. My experience with mood stabilizers was different from yours because I responded very well to Lamictal and Seroquel (which is an antipsychotic used as a mood stabilizer).
207227 tn?1271416978 I assume you wohld likr some support with this and there are some here that undertand behavioral issues and mood disorders along cognitive disturbances. I am one and will do my best.
Avatar f tn If you have taken tegretol I would be interested in hearing from you about your experiences with this medication. Apparently I have become much more emotionally sensitive, and I know, much more short tempered. Has this happened to you and what did you do about it? I don't know whether it's me changing and not putting up with as much as I used and those around me can't handle it or if it's the meds. Maybe it's both - I really don't know.
Avatar f tn As her doage on Keppra increased, so did her irritability and mood swings...She will be weened off of Keppra within the month and will be fully on Trileptal. Her Neuro. thought this was best, because the B6 just was not helping enough..it helped, but not fully, so now we are on to this med. I hope it works....i will keep you all posted on this as she gets off of the Keppra. Hopefully, my bright, happy, cheerful daughter will return.
Avatar n tn 75mg zyprexa, 50mg Topimax, 300mg Seroquel, and 350mg Trileptal at nightime. I take 300mg Lamictal and 350mg Trileptal every morning. I sleep all night, and want to sleep more. I've had bloodwork done the past few months and my thyroid always comes back alright. I see my counselor every other week, but it is really difficult to get a work in appointment with my psychiatrist. He's always booked for the next 3 months and it's very frustrating for me.
Avatar n tn ve stopped taking trileptal (for mood stablizer) and experiencing ear ringing and tremors. Can one ever find something that works????
925572 tn?1246540031 my pdoc raised my lamictal to 200 mg and gave anther mood stabilizer.
397118 tn?1219762250 Hi everyone, Well I have been horrible lately I'm so tired I can barely open my eyes is just so bad no energy no nothing I just sit here at work and have just rest my head in the desk cause I'm so tired. Avatar n tn I have not actually been given more than a hazy diagnosis. No offense intended to the professionals, but, every psychiatrist seems to hedge when I ask what my diagnosis is, or why the particular med is being prescribed and what it will do.
1108262 tn?1273179266 I have been on Trileptal for about 4 years now. I began it because I had trouble with sleepiness and general fatigue on Tegretol, and the blood tests bothered me. At first Trileptal worked, but the effect lessened over time as I built up tolerance and we (doc and I) kept tweaking it until I was on 1800 mg a day and it still wasn't really working. I also have generalized anxiety disorder, so she added Xanax into the mix.
5153554 tn?1365430705 I've vented often on here. It really helps. As I've stated in other posts my son & I were just diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder - he has I, I'm guessing i have I but My Pdoc did not specify, but our treatments by different docs have been similar. We both were initially on Lamictal. The first time me son stopped taking his meds, after being committed, he ended up committed again less than 3 weeks later for suicidal thoughts.
Avatar n tn Concerta and Trileptal are for ADHD and Mood Stabilizers usually for Anxiety yes. The Prevacid is a stomach acid reducer. Geodan is a bipolar medication. Depending on how long he has been on them, he may have an allergic reaction. Id research.

Avatar f tn I went to a psychiotrist 3 weeks ago who took me off both of those meds and put me on Seroquel 150mg and trileptal 1200mg. Last week she upped the seroquel to 300mg and my trileptal to 1500mg. I now cant function at all i cant concentrate, i cant sleep all i want to do is eat. I wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat and i am soaking wet.. I don't understand what is going on can someone please help me??
Avatar f tn As for mood stabilizers you can go to the links page but assuming you tried Lithium and Depakoate (which are the most used mood stabilizers) there is Trileptal, Topomax, Keppra and Neurontin. Those are more in use. Lovaza is an anti-cholesterol medication used experimentally for bipolar and it works in the same manner as fish oil. That is FDA approved and has shown promising results.
585414 tn?1288941302 Actually the effects I got from Trileptal and Keppra are not uncommon but some people find them effective and perfectly safe. If you ever run into a source as to why anti-convulsants (not all but many) are so useful on mania I'd be interested as perhaps the overactivity of the brain in seizures is happenning in mania to a lesser extent (or what exactly goes on in a manic episode clinically in general). Anyway, most psychiatrists won't use Clonidine because of the risk of depression.
2047903 tn?1330187549 I was lucky and after 3 procedures have been pain free and medication free for almost 4 years. So I was able to wean off the Trileptal under doctors orders.
Avatar f tn If a person has epilepsy since they were a child and requires an anti-convulsant it should be noted that some anti-convulsants are used as mood stabilizers such as Depakoate, Trileptal, Keppra and of course Lamictal (and others) but the dosage and adjustment for bipolar would be different. Since some medications can on occassion raise the seizure threshold it would involve a close conversation between your neurologist and psychiatrist as for what medication is right for you.
