Trileptal and lamictal

Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal and lamictal

trileptal

1011826 tn?1274492712 After 3 months, I am down to 900 mg of Trileptal, 2 mg Xanax, and 150 mg daily, down from 1800 mg daily of TRileptal originally, and a VERY slow introduction of Lamictal into my system. Of course this happens on the weekend, otherwise I would have called the pdoc by now-- anyway, let me know. Help is appreciated!
1011826 tn?1274492712 However, since this is day one of 100 mg, could this go away? LMK. Also, am on Trileptal (1800 mg/day, with 300 mg in am and 1500 mg in pm) and Xanax (between 1 1/2 to 2 mg/ day depending on anxiety symptoms). The doctor wants to get Lamictal into my system and then decrease Trileptal slowly as our next step. Anyway, any comments on these side effects? Thanks for your help!!
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
5032487 tn?1365824021 Remember that nothing that works will be side effect free for everyone. Lamictal is weight neutral, and is great for bipolar II, and packs most of its weight against depression. Geodon and Abilify are also supposed to be weight neutral, Geodon a little more so than Abilify. Trileptal is weight neutral as well, but its use in bipolar is technically off-label.
1100992 tn?1262357216 I found Lamictal the most tolerable out of the 3 and it worked specifically on rapid cycling and mixed states and could not tolerate Tegretol, Trileptal and Depakoate because of personality changes (but that's a potential side effect of all anti-convulsants used as mood stabilizers including the one I take now) but each person responds differently to each medication although generally, side effect profile aside as it is the only medication approved as a mood stabilizer before any other usa
Avatar n tn 75mg zyprexa, 50mg Topimax, 300mg Seroquel, and 350mg Trileptal at nightime. I take 300mg Lamictal and 350mg Trileptal every morning. I sleep all night, and want to sleep more. I've had bloodwork done the past few months and my thyroid always comes back alright. I see my counselor every other week, but it is really difficult to get a work in appointment with my psychiatrist. He's always booked for the next 3 months and it's very frustrating for me.
1134609 tn?1269272200 We would really like to get down to 2 medications; Lamictal for BP depression and the other for the mania side of things. And then possibly a benzo as a PRN. But, I have Ativan and Xanax XR in the cupboard and I have taken one of the Xanax and two Ativan over the space of 6 months; all while I was still taking the Celexa.
925572 tn?1246540031 my pdoc raised my lamictal to 200 mg and gave anther mood stabilizer.
959034 tn?1253671476 I am 22 years old and I was diagnosed with epilepsy since I was about 5 years old. They told my mom I had 6 days to live when I was born because I had a tumor on my brain. I had brain surgery when I was a baby. Since then I've had 5 brain surgeries my last one was when I was 11 years old. I had a seizure on the operating table and was paralyzed on my right side. So whenever I have a seizure I go paralyzed on my right side and it takes me about 3 minutes to talk again.
Avatar f tn t need to do blood tests. The 3 standards are lithium, Depakoate and Lamictal. Every person has different reactions but I found Lamictal the most tolerable as for the side effects you describe such as cognitive side effects (the mental dulling you described). You could ask about that. If you've been tried on all of those there are other mood stabilizers on some of the websites on the links page.
Avatar m tn t require bloodtests and is safer. Lamictal does not require regularly blood monitoring because when I was on it the blood test was yearly and more of a general check up. Lithium of course does. Each person reacts differently though but the site "Depression Central" could give you an overall understanding.
Avatar m tn i say my new neoro today and he wanted me to look at 3 other meds(lamictal, topomax, and trileptal) and they all have just as bad or more side effects including severe acne. ive been trying to ghave a good attitude but its starting to get to me and it has almost eliminated my social life. i dont care what ppl think. acne does make a difference and i dont think a good looking girl would like me with my face all messed up.
Avatar n tn hey my diagnoses is bipolar depression i take 150 zoloft,50naltrexone,60mg inderol,trileptal 900,stelazine 6mg,cogentin 0.
Avatar f tn but i would like to share this with you lamictal and trileptal do affect birth control pills and vise verse i.e. you can get pregnant using these as they reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills by 40%to 50% ,,,,,,,,,,also (which done me a great harm) the birth control pills reduce the effect of BP meds up to 50% also. i read on some site (but i cannot remember which) that birth control pills can affect most of psychiatric meds.
Avatar f tn I'm on Lamictal and it's working well for me so far. It is a slow taper, 25 mg every two weeks until 100 mg, then you can go up by 50 mg every two weeks. So it takes a while to work, but it's really good for the depressive phase. It's great for BP II, and it's approved I believe as an add-on med for BP I stabilization. Topomax does get used for bipolar, but it causes major cognitive side effects in a lot of people, to the point of getting nicknamed "Dopamax".
2080404 tn?1643113754 My doctor just took me off Lithium and what I was taking to sleep- Trazadone- and switched me to Tegretol and Ambien. I have Bi polar type II and Borderline Personality Disorder with Ultradian cycles. I just joined this site while doing absent-minded research browsing on the two disorders and decided "why not?". Set up a profile and even trackers which is something else. But I can't help but find purely scientific facts about the medicines, has anyone been on them?
Avatar m tn t say which is best to use but Lamictal was the most effective for me as well as other people and generally used more than the others. Trileptal unlike Tegretol (which its clinically similar to) does not require a blood test. Neurontin and Topomax don't but they are generally used as adjuncts. I was not able to tolerate Keppra because of personality changes and its not used often for this exact reason.
Avatar m tn There are other options as well regarding mood stabilizers besides lithium and Lamictal of course. Go to the welcome page for websites that are clinically accurate and consumer friendly such as: http://www.psycom.net/depression.central.bipolar.html http://www.psycheducation.org/depression/meds/moodstabilizers.
1114269 tn?1258680912 Thanks folks for your answers. I have tried Seroquel and had a bad cardiac (tachycardia) response to it, and that class of drugs in general is not good for me (have had same problems). I'm also having problems with Ativan at the moment, have been taking 1mg at night every night for about 8 months. If I don't take one, I have the most horrible violent nightmares ever. So I don't know what to do.
Avatar f tn Hi, I would have to do some research on a lamictal tegretal study. I'm not sure whether lamictal is licensed in the UK, something else I shall have to look into.
1108262 tn?1273179266 DOES ANY ONE TAKE TRILEPTAL FOR BIPOLAR ??? IF SO HOW MUCH AND FOR HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TAKING IT??
Avatar m tn I am on Trileptal, Lamictal, and Luvox. The only reason why I am really confused is because we haven't made any medication changes for quite a while now. I was very stable for a while, and still am emotionally, but these nightmares and sweats are getting a bit concerning. I just don't like not knowing what is going on with my body. Can your medication start giving you side effects even after being on them for a long time.
574118 tn?1305135284 I've just come off of trying to switch to Seroquel monotherpy. I maxed out on 800mg of Seroquel before I was able to totally get off of lithium and hadn't even started to lower my Lamictal dose. I don't tolerate lithium well and side effects have gotten much worse over time. Lamictal has been okay for me as long as we watch the dose - it's very reactive to hormones and that has been a huge problem. Was soooo looking forward to only one mood stabilizer...
Avatar f tn Have you looked up the side effects to lamictal? And my daughter just started taking lamictal .Just found out last week she was having seizures. My son also has seizures and know medicines have helped him even the VNS and still has seizures every day, your daughter should have an IEP if she doesn't already ,And the school should know how to work with a child who has seizures to help her.
Avatar f tn Lamictal is a mood stabilizer and not a antiphycotic like Seroquel. You may want to do some research on Lamictal and Abilify. Sorry I can't help you anymore than I have, perhaps someone else on this site can give you a better answer.
