Common Questions and Answers about Trigger finger pain relief

finger

Avatar n tn Symptoms of trigger finger usually start without any injury. Symptoms may include the presence of a small lump, pain in the palm, swelling, and a catching or popping sensation in the finger or thumb joints. If symptoms are mild, resting the finger may be enough to resolve the problem. Over-the-counter pain medications can be used to relieve the pain. Splints are sometimes used to rest the finger. A physician may choose to inject a corticosteroid.
1330514 tn?1277071512 Now, I am slowly suffering with both, but the trigger finger is what seems to bother me most at this point. Is there any relief other than surgery? Does surgery help alleviate the pain, or does it take care of it altogether? All responses are welcome and appreciated. I am a walking 'mess of a 36 yr old"!
Avatar f tn I have developed what appears to be "trigger finger". I am a bead store owner and use tools for jewelry making for a living. Literally overnight, I developed a hard nodule under my middle finger on the palm, and my finger started snapping into place and being stiff after waking in the morning. Some days the pain is pretty bad and other days it's hardly there. It is my right hand and I am right-handed. Is surgery the only option to correct this problem?
Avatar f tn Hello, i have a unique condition of trigger finger as i get it frequently and it's alternating between my hands and feet. I had three surgeries already on the two hands middle fingers. I saw many doctors but they don't know the reason for it or what causes it. it's not only a tendon lock, but i get it also with swelling and a lot of pain that i sometimes pass out because of it. i'm 35 yo and don't have diabetes.
Avatar n tn I had surgery for trigger finger release on my middle finger at the end of December. It was a severe case. My doctor told me it would be a simple surgery. I have had a LOT of pain since the surgery. I still take Darvacet at night to control the pain. During the day, I can tolerate it. Is this normal? He said I just need to keep working it, which I constantly do. I have talked to other people who seem to think that I should not still be having the swelling and pain that I have.
Avatar n tn I have been having severe pain...like nerve ending smart pain periodically in my finger. It almost takes to the ground it is so painful. Sometime it takes 30 - 40 minutes for my finger to feel better. Is it normal for a tendon to be remove to fix a clicking finger? If so, is the pain normal? Thanks!
Avatar m tn Please can you let me have some pain relief answers for arthritus in my finger joints. I am a female of 63 years. I take thyroxin for an under active thyroid and calichew calcium pills.
Avatar f tn Trigger point injections by a physiatrist may be a great benefit to you as trigger points are the main cause of myofascial pain syndrome (aka severe muscular pain). I also have myofascial pain syndrome. I find that along with a muscle relaxer and antidepressant, Theracane therapy helps tremendously. A Theracane is used to apply deep pressure on the trigger points. Repeated frequent use reduces the pain signals released by the trigger points.
Avatar f tn I visited the NS today. He was confused about the pressure in my head and said that it couldn't be a CSF leak or PTC since it's mainly on one side of my head. He thought it might just be a "trigger point" caused during the surgery. He gave me a nerve block and sent me home with Vicodin and more steroids. The nerve block helped some of the sharp, shooting pains in the back of my head but did absolutely nothing for the horrible pressure.
Avatar m tn Then again, what works now, may not later on and there may need to be a change in meds. Make sure you have a good pain MD who will listen to you describe your pain without interrupting for 5 mins. No one can describe your pain better than you, and a good MD will listen as you put it into your words. Good luck!
Avatar f tn All of a sudden the piece of skin in between my thumb and finger has become stiff. I don't think it would be trigger finger but i might be wrong. It won't go either. What can I do? It's hard to stretch my thumb away from the hand and spread my fingers without it hurting.

1531375 tn?1294812585 Im having pain in the back of my neck down my left shoulder arms till my ring finger.
Avatar n tn Yes, we are not totally alone. The trigger finger, also known as stenosing tenosynovitis, is common to those of Scandinavian decent, as is type 1 diabetes. My mother was Swedish, and I have both diseases. I would not consider it to necessarily be diabetes related, but certainly genetic. I have had two fingers treated successfully by having the tendon sheath opened to relieve pressure.
Avatar f tn ve developed terrible hand pain--four trigger fingers, overall pain in my palms and fingers, and now little bumps on the inside of both thumbs. I've never had problems with my hands before. I'm 59 and do have arthritis in my knees and lots of pain all over since being on these meds, but the hand pain is particularly disturbing because it came on so suddenly and is very severe. When I wake up in the morning, my hands are like claws.
Avatar n tn I also have had carpal tunnel release surgery but my doctor said that I also have trigger finger in my thumb bt he stated that the trigger finger has nothing to do with the carpal tunnel is that true? I am also still feeling pain in my wrist however the surgery was done on 10-27-08.
Avatar f tn Did you have any relief at all? If trigger point injections are anything like nerve blocks...there are no guarantees they will work and it may wear off quicker than anticipated. If the doctor told you two days and you are still in great pain, I feel it would be a good idea to call and let them know. You may have two points of pain and they may have only gotten the medication to one of them. Best wishes and get well soon.
Avatar n tn I injured my thumb right after Thanksgiving and was initially diagnosed with a sprain. The worst pain was at the joint farthest from my wrist. New Year's Eve I was diagnosed with trigger thumb and prescribed 8 physical therapy sessions. (The tendon at the base of the thumb is noticeably thick) I had little to no improvement after the PT (over a 4 week period) and sought a second opinion.
Avatar f tn From what I've heard, and from people I have talked to, if they work at all, they are only a short term fix. I am taking Lyrica, and that has been the best thing I have found for the pain. I'm almost pain free. I still have spinal issues, so get pain from that, but my fibro all-over body pain has improved about 80% with the Lyrica. You might ask your rheumie about some samples of it to try.
Avatar f tn t say they were painful but they did absolutely nothing to ease my pain. If they are what I know to be Trigger Point Injections you should have had reduction in pain in the first 12-24 hours...... if it was going to work. I've also had steroidal injections (two) which were not very effective. If my pain was an 8 when I had the injection(s) it went down to a 7.5 with the first and 7 with the second. It lasted just several weeks.
Avatar m tn This is associated with catching, snapping or locking of the involved finger flexor tendon, resulting in inability to move the finger and pain. The diagnostic thing is that you can unlock the lock and start the finger functioning again. Treatment is by injecting steroid into the tendon. If that fails, this can be surgically corrected. Please consult an orthopedic specialist. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn For the past 2 weeks I've had pain/soreness in my right middle finger (dominant hand), which occurs usually when bending or flexing. The problem began distinctly when I woke up one morning with this unusual pain. It doesn't hurt when the finger is at rest, and none of the other fingers hurt at all, it's only the middle finger. The finger itself is not swollen or any different in appearance to the middle finger on my left hand.
534810 tn?1213327718 I have developed a trigger finger and dequervains tendonitis in bilateral wrist w/thumb pain. Had to go off med for a month and also have sites injected w/cortisone. Never had any of this before. Oncologist said she had seen trigger finger before no dequervains tendonitis? Wondering if anyone out there has had any of these side effects?
