trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar f tn i have a reaserch on mangment of trigeminal neuralgia , but i cann't know until now which the best medical or surgical treatment and i couldn't found which have high rate of recurrance.
Avatar f tn Your symptoms do not exactly match the clinical picture of trigeminal neuralgia but you should continue with the treatment and do notgo in for complicated details. The treatment consists of medicines, surgery, and complementary approaches. For more information refer http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/trigeminal_neuralgia/detail_trigeminal_neuralgia.
Avatar f tn After several different doctors, I was told that I had trigeminal neuralgia as well as a deviated septum. I eventually had laser surgery for the trigeminal neuralgia, but the a facial pain continues. The nerve pain has subsided, but I continue to have facial pain on my left side. The pain seems to get worse if I lean my head to that side. This occurred a few years ago, and after several months of taking seizure medication and lortab, I was not getting any better.
Avatar m tn As many as 90% patients have reduction in symptoms after a month of treatment. Some side effects of facial numbness have been associated. Gamma knife surgery for trigeminal neuralgia has been a safe and effective treatment and better than traditional surgery. Take care.
2015036 tn?1332997788 Volume 71(3), September 2012, p 581–586 Outcomes After Percutaneous Surgery for Patients With Multiple Sclerosis-Related Trigeminal Neuralgia Mallory, Grant W. MD*; Atkinson, John L. MD*; Stien, Kathy J. RN*; Keegan, B. Mark MD‡; Pollock, Bruce E. MD*,§ CONCLUSION: Percutaneous surgery for patients with MS-TN is less likely to provide pain relief than similar operations performed for patients with idiopathic TN.
Avatar f tn Did you ever get a reply? Sounds like Trigeminal Neuralgia Type 1 or Atypical. There is help for this! Same needs used for seizures help condition and pain attacks. Tegretol is one but many more. Thank you Neurologist treats TN. Studies happening now.
Avatar n tn I am going twice a week to a Chiropractor to get relief from Trigeminal Neuralgia .He is an expert in in nerve pain treatment.I have Trigeminal Neuralgia since Nov ember 20001..I took Homeopathic treatment,Accupuncture treatment..Since one and half years I am taking Gabapentin, colonzepam, baclofom etc.Pain goes and come.some times it almost blind me due to severe pain. Is there anyone who got cure by Chiropractor.
Avatar n tn In all probability, you are suffering from trigeminal neuralgia. For medical treatment of trigeminal neuralgia several types of drugs are tried either singly or in combination. These are anti-epilepsy drugs such as valproate, carbamazepine, lamotrigine, phenytoin, gabapentin, and pregabalin; muscle relaxants such as clonazepam and baclofen; tricyclic antidepressants such as carbamazepine, amitriptyline, and nortriptyline.
Avatar f tn Could compression or stretching of the trigeminal nerve during surgery cause damage which is causing this neuralgia and head ache. I have no infection and normal blood counts. After trying two steriod dose packs and a Zpack suggested by my neurosurgeon, I went to a general practioner to make sure I had no infection or other cause. Except having high blood pressure, which I usually have low blood pressure, everything was within normal limits. I feel the BP is due to pain.
Avatar m tn Traumatic trigeminal neuropathy is generally not associated with trigeminal neuralgia. However, both entities may be responsive to pharmacologic intervention. Seeing a neurologist or orofacial pain specialist misadvised.
Avatar n tn Since Lasik surgery 9 years ago, I have had a pain in my left eye and the surrounding orbit. It is also just above the eyebrow, and rarely comes below the eye. The surgeon had problems with the lasik flap on my left eye and my eyes have been dry since the surgery. The only answer I get from the lasik surgeon is "it's from dry eye." Well, that doesn't help me.
Avatar n tn surgical techniques may be needed like cutting or destroying part of trigeminal nerve, surgery to remove a blood vessel or tumor that is putting pressure on the trigeminal nerve. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar m tn I suffer from trigeminal neuralgia and am currently taking BACLOFEN to help with the pain. I was treated with the Gamma Knife about a year ago without success. A friend also had TN and was treated with an alcohol shot to the face that had to be repeated about 4 weeks later. That was over 10 years ago and he has had NO pain since. I can find only passing references to the alcohol shot to the face. My question is where can I go to get this alcohol shot to the face?
Avatar f tn I'm going to tell my story so it will be kind of long, but has a great end ing..promise;-). In 2011, at age 29, I noticed a sharp pain when I brushed my teeth. At the time, like many others, I assumed it was dental related. I went to the dentist and they found nothing wrong. As the weeks went on, the pain started happening when I talked, brushed, washed my face, clenched my teeth, slept, smiled, if the wind blew hard, etc. It was the WORST pain of my life.
Avatar f tn Do you think this can still be Trigeminal Neuralgia? Is a neurologist the best type of Doctor to seek treatment from? Thank you again.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had any experience with using Trignotab as an alternative treatment for Trigeminal Neuralgia? I am posting this for a friend who does not have access to a computer. She has suffered from this condition for years (30+), has undergone surgery with short term success, has been assessed for gamma knife treatment but is not a candidate. She is currently taking trileptol and baclofen, and is not sure if she can take the Trignotab with these medications.
Avatar n tn ll be 3 months before we know if it worked. There are five surgery options. Your doctor will have to figure out which surgery would be best for your situation. Find out from your neurologist how many patients with TN he/she treats in a year. My suggestion is to find a teaching hospital in the nearest large city that has a "facial pain center" or "pain center". These docs specialize in TN and other facial pain diseases.
542332 tn?1214592336 In general, a recurrence of trigeminal neuralgia can be difficult to treat. Patients who have a recurrence have multiple options, including getting another microvascular decompresssion. However, because I do not have your history or records, I would not be able to comment on your condition. It is reasonable to ask your surgeon about going over all the options.
Avatar n tn By ATN -- do you mean Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia? If so, there are 5 different types of surgery. There are also medications -- mostly anti-seizure medications normally used for epilepsy -- that are used to control the pain. Problem with the drugs is, they can cause other problems (kidney/liver) and regular blood tests are necessary. A facial pain specialist is the best doctor to seek out or a neurologist.
1098081 tn?1257446602 I just had surgery for glossopharyngeal neuralgia on oct,27 2009. Like you I did not tolorate the medication very well. I'm 44 years old and very active I hated the medication but could no longer stand the electric like shock pains in my ear and throat. I had surgery in NYC at Columbia Presbyterian. Ronald Brisman MD. the surgery took 8hours and he also fixed my trigeminal nerve. It's been just over 2 weeks and I have no shooting pains at all!
Avatar n tn I have trigeminal & geniculate neuralgia & had microvascular decompression surgery 10/09 w/ a neurosurgeon & ENT MD. My surgery was abnormal, they were unable to decompress the 7th nerve due to massive amounts of extra &abnormal blood vessels wrapped around it. The 5th nerve wss decompressed &it controlled/allievated my trigeminal symptoms for 6 mo. I recommend finding an experienced surgeon & get MVD, this diagnosis is so painful even only 6 mo of remission was worth it.
Avatar n tn I just found out that I do have Trigeminal Neuralgia. I have the same symptons you have and I have researched this many people have unneccesary procedures done on their teeth thinking its that. I would recommend before you undergo the root canal seeing a Neurologist and having them do a MRI they will be able to see if its the Trigeminal Neuralgia by this test. I hope this helps, I know how frustrating this can be and also how painful it is. Please let me know what happens.
347645 tn?1283220742 ve gone through a great deal. There are usually three treatment options for patients with trigeminal neuralgia. MVD, Rhizotomies, and Radiosurgery. Often times, treating patients with multiple modalities can increase the risk for side effects such as numbness and anesthesia dolorosa (painful numbness). Perhaps visiting a pain specialist next is a good step to reassess.
