trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar n tn I went to another endodontists who finished the root canal I think finding another root of the tooth. He did not feel I had trigeminal neuralgia. In the meantime, my dentist drilled into the tooth just in front of it because I was in such pain without finding the root. The 2nd endodontist found the root and finished that tooth. The pain continued so he had found a crack in the back tooth under microscope and did a root canal there as well as redid an old root canal .
Avatar f tn Hello. For a few months my trigeminal nerve has been irritated. It's the first and second branch. I experience the electrical shock (more like a tickle) that I've experienced with Trigeminal Neuralgia but there's no pain. It seems to happen often when my head is tilted forward/down and that makes me wonder if it could be an issue with my cervical spine. I really don't have any unusual discomfort in my neck. I don't have headaches or sinus pressure or anything.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for your question Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid. Drug of choice for trigeminal neuralgia is carbamazepine but as the dose may vary according to severity therefore I would advice an oral medicine specialist consultation or at least a physician to confirm this diagnosis and get you treated accordingly. Take care.
Avatar f tn This may be Trigeminal neuralgia as you have typical one sided facial pain extending to temple and eye( ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve may be involved) and sore gums of the teeth of same side (maxillary branch of 5th nerve). Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid.

Avatar n tn I then went through 5 days of Augmentin. There was no drainage and no change. I was also experiencing tooth and jaw pain. This mainly on the right side. I went back to the P.A, who put me on 7 days of Levaquin and ordered a sinus x-ray. The sinus x-ray came back negative. The tooth pain continued and even got worse. I then had a CT scan of my face which came back negative for any issues in my bones, clear for sinus issues. I then went to my dentist yesterday for an exam.
Avatar n tn Thanks so much for taking the time to write that puts my mind at ease about the Trigeminal neuralgia. I have a lot of throbbing pain today that I did not have the first time it happen and it’s and I think it’s coming my wisdom tooth in the upper right. I am still unsure why it happen in the shower could be coincidental.
Avatar f tn but it could possibly be trigeminal neuralgia....a not uncommon pain syndrome in MS. Carbamazepine is the standard treatment. Let your neurologist know so you can be properly evaluated and treated.
Avatar f tn Hi Everyone, Yesterday late afternoon I had unrelenting severe pain on the left side of my face. It almost felt like it was a tooth that needed to come out ASAP or a root canal or something. I'd say the location was on my upper gum or on my cheek below my eye - somewhere in between. It lasted for several hours.
Avatar n tn Your descriptions appear to suggest trigeminal autonomic cephalgia or trigeminal neuralgia with autonomic phenemenon. Seeing an orofacial pain specialist or neurologist is advised.
Avatar f tn Hi, About a year ago, I suddenly developed shooting pains in the front of my face, above my upper front teeth. I went to the dentist, who x-rayed me, and said I had an abscess, above my left upper 1 tooth. He did root canal treatment, but could not find anything, the pain did not go away, and after several root canals, he referred me to a consultant for an apicectomy. When the operation was done, as he drilled through the bone, he said there was lots of pus to drain away.
624326 tn?1223829190 The patient is sure that a tooth is to blame but when the tooth is extracted, the pain moves to another tooth or area. The patient can then loose many healthy teeth as the dentist searches for the cause of the pain. The pain is often referred to another part of the mouth some distance from the NICO site which further confusing the situation. NICO's arise commonly following a "routine extractions" or trauma such as whiplash.
Avatar m tn There are three branches of trigeminal nerve, the ophthalmic, maxillary and mandibular. The pain of trigeminal neuralgia occurs almost exclusively in the maxillary and mandibular divisions. One most commonly feels pain in the maxillary nerve, which runs along one’s cheekbone, most of the nose, upperlip, and upper teeth. Next affected is mandibular nerve, affecting the lower cheek, lower lip, and jaw.
Avatar m tn Does Trigeminal Neuralgia worsen with age. I've tried Tegretol but the pain has some back agaiin after about a year and is very, very intense. It is like a needle made of glass penetrating the right side of my nose and going into my head. What is the best treatment for this and can it be cured completely. Avatar f tn I wake up with the pain almost every morning and it hurts throughout the day. The doctors thought i might have Trigeminal Neuralgia (tic douloureux) but my pain lasts for hours at a time. I don't think I have that. Does anyone know what I might have???
Avatar n tn Based on your descriptions and assuming past medical history is non-contributory, clinical differential diagnosis includes, but not limited to, deafferentation pain, traumatic trigeminal neuralgia, pre-trigeminal neuralgia, and neurovascular orofacial pain.Seeing an orofacial pain specialist or neurologist is advised.
Avatar f tn i forgot to tell my doctor about it but it probably wouldnt have done any good anyways. I dont know why you have experienced this pain. could it be coming from a tooth? i hope it goes away but just wanted to give support because I have been there.
Avatar f tn I have pain that I originally thought was caused by some dental problem, however, after several procedures (fillings, crowns, root canals and extractions) the pain remained. I was diagosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia a few years after all that. Unfortunately, the dental professionals never told me there could be other reasons for facial pain.
Avatar n tn Hello Tubby, Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Management Forum. I am glad that you found us and took the time to post....but I am sad to hear about your increasing chronic pain. I don't know a lot about dentistry....or the problems associated with it. I do know about chronic pain. I had a root canal some years ago and the pain continued, though not as extreme.
Avatar f tn I have been going to the doctor for several years for sinusitis, then I began to have facial pain. After several different doctors, I was told that I had trigeminal neuralgia as well as a deviated septum. I eventually had laser surgery for the trigeminal neuralgia, but the a facial pain continues. The nerve pain has subsided, but I continue to have facial pain on my left side. The pain seems to get worse if I lean my head to that side.
