Common Questions and Answers about Trigeminal neuralgia or toothache

trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar n tn its not trigeminal neuralgia because thats on the lower jaw spreading from the centre of the bottom of the jaw up along the side of the face towards the ear...atleast thatswhat they have been telling me for years. Sounds like some nerve problem though and nervescan be affected by bad teeth and the pain can be felt in another tooth or part of the face from the bad one. Ive been through all of this and am still battling...
Avatar f tn Tegretol is the medication of choice for trigeminal neuralgia. Have you gone to the dentist to make sure you don't have a dental issue that should be fixed? Dental issues can inflame the nerves under the teeth and the pain can migrate into ear and sometimes face (generally not lightning bursts like TN) so it's a good idea to make sure you don't have a tooth issue on top of the TN.
Avatar f tn Without the medication I could not live with this pain, it does help but the pain never goes away, and I dread it when I know that I am going to have an attack, nobody seems to know exactly what is what is causing this, I have looked up Trigeminal Neuralgia and I have these symptoms along with other symptoms, can you please tell me if you think that I may have this or a combination of Trigeminal Neuralgia and Hemicrania Continua. I live in the UK and would really appreciate your advice.
Avatar n tn Clinical differential diagnosis includes, but not limited to, atypical odontalgia, neurovascualr orofacial pain, and trigeminal neuralgia.
429700 tn?1308007823 Sounds like Trigeminal neuralgia (TN). The Trigeminal nerve has 3 main branches. There are motor component along with the sensory ones. It can cause motor tic and was known as tic douloureux at one time.
Avatar f tn Could compression or stretching of the trigeminal nerve during surgery cause damage which is causing this neuralgia and head ache. I have no infection and normal blood counts. After trying two steriod dose packs and a Zpack suggested by my neurosurgeon, I went to a general practioner to make sure I had no infection or other cause. Except having high blood pressure, which I usually have low blood pressure, everything was within normal limits. I feel the BP is due to pain.
Avatar n tn Then large lumps under arm began, antibiotics did not work and had allergic reaction. Regular doc referred me to a neurologist who diagnosed trigeminal neuralgia and prescribed anti-seizure and anti-depressant. Had MRI and EEG. Tests showed nothing. So now I am not sure what to do, I am 23 and can't live the rest of my life like this. The pain wakes me up at night and I have very bad head aches. What is the next step to take? Any similar stories?
1175164 tn?1274116632 I have had Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia for almost four years. I also have Anesthesia Dolorosa. I was wondering what everyone's triggers are. I seem to have some that are not "textbook" like you read everywhere. For instance, I find that if I am anywhere with a lot of noise or external stimulation, I get triggered. Please share what you experience. Thanks!
Avatar n tn hi again....I looked this up on MAYOCLINIC.COM its referred to as TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA....it follows the branches of the trigeminal nerve...look at the site for more info.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your reply. So you don't think this Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN). My lower back teeth are still hurting and my jaw is really tender, feels like it could be bruised but isn't. I take Allegra everyday for my allergies/sinuses. I just don't know anymore, I have so many health concerns going on. 7 years is to long.
Avatar n tn , She flew on a plane a few days later and thought her tooth would explode Pain continued in the tooth with the root canal, was sensitive to heat and cold, and I put ambsol on that tooth only with a q-tip, she felt the liquid on the tooth with the root canal and it was painful, a few weeks later and another root canal, then a crown and two bite gurards in 2 months and still the pain continued -- pain is located on left side of face lower jaw (where the root canals were) later after trips t
Avatar n tn You should ask your PCP for a referral to a neurologist or a facial pain specialist. There is pre-Trigeminal neuralgia which manifests as a toothache. Many people have unnecessary dental work done thinking the pain is caused by their teeth, when in reality it's the nerve. Hot or cold compresses can give temporary relief. I've also used Oragel rubbed on the teeth and gums to numb the pain temporarily. Let us know how you're doing.
Avatar n tn Go see a Docter. It is very important that you go see a Docter. It can be anything, even a toothache you don't know or realize is there or a bad tooth. But can also be a virus or other sign or symptom.maybe even beginning signs and stages of Thyroids.Or anything nueroligical.or ureoligical.Any way you need to get seen right away.Maybe you got hurt and forgot.
Avatar f tn Did you ever get a reply? Sounds like Trigeminal Neuralgia Type 1 or Atypical. There is help for this! Same needs used for seizures help condition and pain attacks. Tegretol is one but many more. Thank you Neurologist treats TN. Studies happening now.

Avatar m tn It is highly unlikely that drug or medication can provoke trigeminal neuralgia. What I really meant was some medications such as tegretol, anticonvulsants, for example, neuron tin are very promising to treat trigeminal neuralgia. In addition, surgical procedure known as microvascular decompression is promising and yields long term therapeutic effect. you do need to see a neurologist to be fully informed of all available treatment options.
Avatar f tn Do alot of you get face pain or toothache and sore gums with your migraines? I had a migraine the other day that started in the back of my left eye and then went to my upper and lower teeth and gums. I was just recently told I have migraines not sinus problems. Was also told I have trigeminal neuralgia. I am starting to wonder if my face pain is related to my migraines and not TN.
