trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar f tn I can understand what your going through with the Trigeminal Neuralgia, I myself was just in the ER about a month ago with a severe attack on my left side eye/cheek area. This has turned my TN into Bilateral Trigeminal Neuralgia due to a right sided attack in my cheek and jaw area about 2 years ago. I was ordered to see a Neurologist also and MRI's are being ordered. The TN on my left side has been coming and going ever since but minor and on occasion, Thank god!
Avatar f tn Hello, I would like to know if any one out there has TMJ like symptoms along the jaw area, along with their neuralgia. I have been told it is not trigeminal neuralgia, but the symptoms seem to be more like atypical trigeminal instead.. It is consistent, and very painful and the pain medications are making me so sick, I can't function.
Avatar m tn Hi, Thank you for your question. This may be Trigeminal neuralgia as you have typical one sided facial pain extending to temple and eye( ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve may be involved) and sore gums of the teeth of same side (maxillary branch of 5th nerve). Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid.
1385138 tn?1279928966 The pain seems to travel along the trigeminal nerve yet trigeminal neuralgia is ruled out. It also seems to travel along the temporal artery and that side hit the windshield. The airbag did misalign my jaw with a great impact. Having so many sites in pain with the swelling and even generates to clavicl and end of deltoid muscle down my right arm when off epitol. I am so tired of being told I am unusual and symptoms bizarre.
Avatar f tn Without the medication I could not live with this pain, it does help but the pain never goes away, and I dread it when I know that I am going to have an attack, nobody seems to know exactly what is what is causing this, I have looked up Trigeminal Neuralgia and I have these symptoms along with other symptoms, can you please tell me if you think that I may have this or a combination of Trigeminal Neuralgia and Hemicrania Continua. I live in the UK and would really appreciate your advice.
Avatar n tn I am having a problem with my left ear/jaw area. The pain will start gradually but increase over time. It casuses my jaw to feel tight and I have terrific pain in my ear. It hurts to turn my head to the right (keep in mind it is my left ear that hurts) and touching my ear causes near vomit inducing pain. There is a spot just below my ear that if I massage it, the pain subsides for a minute or two and then starts back up.
Avatar n tn Still having pain, mostly in the jaw area. Pain is now getting more severe and moving to overall headaches. I believe I have atypical trigeminal neuralgia as my pain is more constant than abrupt. Any suggestions? Alternative diagnoses?
Avatar n tn Hi 1987 Cry1987.. does this mean that you're twenty-one and in a lot of pain.. I'm so sorry you're going through this . It does sound like it could be trigeminal neuralgia(sp)..There is a vast amount of info on the web about this and many of the forum members have gone through TN, myself included .. Its not fun Are you see a neuro , has he/she prescribed anything for it. You could also have something else , like TMJ , you really need to have this looked at.
Avatar n tn The symptoms you are describing bear resemblance to few possibilities like facial nerve palsy, trigeminal neuralgia MPDS( myofacial pain dysfunction) and then TMJ disorder due to strenuous opening of mouth for long sittings of RCT.
429326 tn?1282328354 everything is coming back, twitches, weak leg and arm, exhausted, sore and tender scalp, trigeminal neuralgia but on both sides off and on, not real painful though.....shocking pains here, there and everywhere !! My question is does anyone know if TN can cause jaw weakness, stiffness....like you feel like you cant chew or talk anymore??? this has been going on for a week or so, both sides my jaws are so tired and stiff?? Hope everyone is doing ok....
Avatar n tn Hi, probably this is trigeminal neuralgia. “It is a neuropathic disorder of the trigeminal nerve that causes episodes of intense pain in the eyes, lips, nose, scalp, forehead, and jaw. It is estimated that 1 in 15,000 people suffer from trigeminal neuralgia, although those numbers may be significantly higher due to frequent misdiagnosis. TN usually develops after the age of 40, although there have been cases with patients being as young as three years of age”. Taken from website http://en.
1637808 tn?1300371195 I have Trigeminal Neuralgia, but I also have pain in other places on my body. For example, right now I am experiencing neuralgia pain in myleft side of my back right below my shoulder blade and then in the front on the left side in my rib cage directly accross from where it hurts in my back. What could this be?
Avatar n tn I went to an endodontists who drilled into a tooth that felt to be most likely cause of the pain. He found infection and started a root canal but insisted that I had trigeminal neuralgia and would not finish the root canal until I took Tegretol. My internists and I did not think my symptoms consistent with trigeminal neuralgia. I went to another endodontists who finished the root canal I think finding another root of the tooth. He did not feel I had trigeminal neuralgia.
Avatar n tn I just found out that I do have Trigeminal Neuralgia. I have the same symptons you have and I have researched this many people have unneccesary procedures done on their teeth thinking its that. I would recommend before you undergo the root canal seeing a Neurologist and having them do a MRI they will be able to see if its the Trigeminal Neuralgia by this test. I hope this helps, I know how frustrating this can be and also how painful it is. Please let me know what happens.
Avatar m tn I just had a nerve block procedure done for my trigeminal neuralgia pain in my face. My face was sore but after 3 days, the pain in my face became more painful and I felt more electrical current shooting onto my lower teeth area. Why does it seem like my facial pain just got worse after this procedure.
Avatar n tn Numbness of lower left lip is not a common manifestation of trigeminal neuralgia or tmj issue. If your tmj specialist does not know how to diagnose and manage, you may need it see an Orofacial pain specialist.
Avatar n tn Does anybody have experience of neuralgia type facial pain that is associated with hashis. I have had it on and off for years and dtrs felt it was trigeminal neuralgia - but its not electric shocks just this dull dragging pain that feels like all my back teeth are decayed - which they are not. I was searching the internet and have found a dtrs paper with a possible link to underactive thryoids - has anyone had this or an im barking up the wrong tree. Any advice would be grateful.
Avatar f tn Hello unnerved, Trigeminal nerve which is responsible for sensations of the face. The cause trigeminal neuralgia is probably a blood vessel pressing on the trigeminal nerve. Tumors and multiple sclerosis can also cause it, but in some cases the cause is unknown. The pain is sudden, severe, electric shock-like, stabbing that is typically felt on one side of the jaw or cheek.
Avatar f tn Dear, Trigeminal neuralgia is a neuropathic disorder of the trigeminal nerve that causes episodes of intense pain in the eyes, lips, There are some things that you can do to minimize the frequency and intensity of TN attacks: Apply ice packs or any readily available source of cold to the area of pain. Cold often numbs the area and will reduce the pain.[citation needed] Get adequate rest in normal rest cycles. Manage your stress well and keep stress levels low.
Avatar m tn Would someone who has Trigeminal Neuralgia please help me out with the progression of this condition. For about a week now - I have numbness above my left eye that seems to have gotten worse everyday - first my eyebrow, then my forehead and now my skull. I have a low grade headache at times and when I lift my eyebrow, pain shoots up my forehead and skull, although not intense pain. I went to see my PCP and he thinks it is Trigeminal Neuralgia and wants to do an MRI.
Avatar n tn It started when I was about 25 years old, initially as a tickle in my cheek area but evolved into a tremendous pain on the left cheek/upper jaw area (right above my eye tooth). I was lucky enough to get diagnosed quickly from a neurologist in the area. There are 3 facial nerves (forehead, cheek & lower jaw) located on each side of the face. These 3 nerves enter the spinal cord at the top of the cranial near the atlas.
Avatar f tn No doubt about it, TN usually causes very severe pain but it should follow the nerve thats basically running along the jaw line, the main identifier for trigeminal neuralgia is sudden attacks of severe, sharp and shooting facial pain in the lower part of the face along the jaw, lasting anywhere from a few seconds to about two minutes, often mistaken for a dental issue or even an ear infection.......
