Common Questions and Answers about Trigeminal neuralgia hearing loss

trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar f tn ve had headaches, eye pain and facial pain for some time now which was diagnosed as migraine, cluster headache and now trigeminal neuralgia. I am taking Gabapentin for this pain and it does work and relieves the pain until it wears off. Apart from the above, I get tingling in my cheek and sometimes temporary numbness and odd sensations spreading over my cheek.
152264 tn?1280354657 s, I believe, though I also had long-standing dizziness, sudden unilateral hearing loss that occurred shortly after the first "shocks" attack, paresthesias elsewhere besides the face, etc.), but later they said I didn't. Haven't seen a neurologist since 2003. I also have highly abnormal auditory evoked potentials on both sides (not just the hearing-loss side), way off the charts!
Avatar f tn hi i was jjust wondering if the pain runs down your neck after it hits the back of your ear and if you have had your hearing tested lately. this type of pain has happened to me on occassion and i try to have a hearing test as close as possible. they have found since getting a base point that each time this happens i lose a little bit of hearing. so far they haven't had a way of preventing the hearing loss but who knows?
655091 tn?1224364431 ve been placed on several medications - Tegretol, Lustral, Neurontin, Amitriptyline. I have been vaguely diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia, yet it seems to manifest more as Raeders. Seven years of this with minimal recovery. A lonely condition. I want rid of it. What can I do to convince my doctor to investigate more thoroughly. Is there hope? I'm delighted to have found this forum and its members. Hope to be a friend. Any response would be most welcome, Declan.
Avatar f tn Symptomatic trigeminal neuralgia is usually caused by multiple sclerosis or by tumours arising near the trigeminal nerve root. Differential diagnosis of trigeminal neuralgia: Cluster headache - Longer-lasting pain; orbital or supraorbital; may cause patient to wake from sleep; autonomic symptoms Dental pain (e.g.
Avatar f tn Without the medication I could not live with this pain, it does help but the pain never goes away, and I dread it when I know that I am going to have an attack, nobody seems to know exactly what is what is causing this, I have looked up Trigeminal Neuralgia and I have these symptoms along with other symptoms, can you please tell me if you think that I may have this or a combination of Trigeminal Neuralgia and Hemicrania Continua. I live in the UK and would really appreciate your advice.
Avatar f tn Trigeminal Neuralgia is a diagnosis of ruling out everything else. The nerve connects to many areas of your face -- your eyes, your nose, your teeth. If you google "Gray's Anatomy" and look for the book on bartlebys com, there are some detailed diagrams of the Trigeminal nerve. Since you have sinus problems, it's probably not unheard of that sinus pressure or problems could cause pain to radiate to all of the areas you mention. Have you seen an ENT or had any tests?
Avatar f tn From what I can read online this usually points towards plaques at the brainstem level creating sensioneural hearing loss. Structurally my hearing is intact, but neurologically it is wearing down. I see the mayo neuro monday for full report.
Avatar n tn I know trigeminal neuralgia is an extrememly painful condition that causes intractable pain. The pain itself can affect your driving abilities. As far as pain medications go, you need to not drive until you know how to react to the medicine. You always need to ask yourself, Am I safe to drive? If you are extremely drowsy or dizzy along with a lot of pain, driving is probably not the right thing to do.
1475492 tn?1332884167 An interesting aspect is that this form affects both men and women equally and can occur at any age, unlike typical trigeminal neuralgia, which is seen most commonly in women. Though TN and ATN most often present in the fifth decade, cases have been documented as early as infancy. http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar f tn Did you ever get a reply? Sounds like Trigeminal Neuralgia Type 1 or Atypical. There is help for this! Same needs used for seizures help condition and pain attacks. Tegretol is one but many more. Thank you Neurologist treats TN. Studies happening now.

Avatar m tn Traumatic trigeminal neuropathy is generally not associated with trigeminal neuralgia. However, both entities may be responsive to pharmacologic intervention. Seeing a neurologist or orofacial pain specialist misadvised.
388376 tn?1302011418 I suspect temporal arteritis because of the way it seemed to start, but here is a list of possibilities: http://symptomchecker.webmd.com/multiple-symptoms?symptoms=hearing-loss%7Cnumbness-or-tingling%7Cnumbness-or-tingling%7Cpain-or-discomfort&symptomids=116%7C164%7C164%7C1&locations=4%7C5%7C8%7C8 I would be interested to hear what it turns out to be.
738075 tn?1330575844 I woke up with Trigeminal Neuralgia last Thursday morning. I knew that was what it was, because I had it once seven years ago. This time it's SO much worse! I told myself I'd "tough it out" for the weekend, even though I did put in a call to my neurologist. By Sunday, it was so bad, I was in tears! I told my DH "just take me out back and shoot me like an old horse!" I was kidding, but kinda serious, too!
1556140 tn?1311846527 My mri and ct were fine. I finally was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia. Do you have pain in your jaw or face at all? Or any numbness? I had a few times where I nearly passed out and once in which my ears rang for about 10 minutes and I couldn't hear. I would check with your doc for either a neurologist referral (if you haven't gotten one) or check with a chiropractor as well (in case it all has something to do with your neck being out.
Avatar n tn Hi, The common causes of shooting pains on right side of head are trigeminal neuralgia, temporal arteritis, tension headaches etc.In trigeminal neuralgia there are successive bouts of face pain. This pain occurs when a blood vessel compresses the trigeminal nerve as it leaves the brain stem. Temporal arteritis is caused due to inflammation of medium and large sized arteries bringing blood to the head.
Avatar f tn I have been going to the doctor for several years for sinusitis, then I began to have facial pain. After several different doctors, I was told that I had trigeminal neuralgia as well as a deviated septum. I eventually had laser surgery for the trigeminal neuralgia, but the a facial pain continues. The nerve pain has subsided, but I continue to have facial pain on my left side. The pain seems to get worse if I lean my head to that side.
Avatar m tn I am concerned i have nerve damage in the trigeminal section v1 that is causing type 2 trigeminal neuralgia. i think that constant ache and pain is steming from the trigeminal v1 branch and the "migranes" are actually bouts of intense nerve pain. Also 2 months post injury hands started to have a dull feeling in the last 2 digits (bilateral) ulnar nerve area. it wa a dull feeling that came and went, then turned into constant light numbness that never goes away..
Avatar f tn ( 22 y/o F About 9 months ago, I started getting headaches — sharp, quick — and was eventually diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia in March. Between those months I had an episode in October of 10% vision loss w/ new onset of floaters - cleared by ophtho and told normal. In February 2018 I started with eyelid twitching for minutes at a time and it has been daily since. A few weeks later, this twitching started in my calves and feet.
