Avatar n tn It hurts to turn my head to the right (keep in mind it is my left ear that hurts) and touching my ear causes near vomit inducing pain. There is a spot just below my ear that if I massage it, the pain subsides for a minute or two and then starts back up. Usually, if I can lay still and/or go to sleep the pain goes away and may not resurface for several days but always comes back. I went to an ear doctor but since it wasn't an actual infection he did not offer much help.
Avatar n tn Hello I had my wisdom teeth (two upper ones and one lower one) extracted 20 days ago. Three days after, I experienced shooting pain behind my ear and my dentist said it was dry socket although he said it didn't look so bad. He packed the socket with medicated packet, but it didn't help with pain until about 3 days after.
Avatar m tn I have had ms for 23 years I have pain around my left ear and pain in my right gum/teeth I have tmj what do you think?
Avatar n tn Hello, From your symptoms the possibilities of trigeminal neuralgia and temporal arteritis need to be ruled out. Trigeminal neuralgia is painful swelling (inflammation) of the nerve (trigeminal nerve) that delivers feeling to the face and "surface" of the eye. Trigeminal neuralgia causes severe, short-lasting (only a few seconds) facial pain on the side of the affected nerve even by slight touch. Mostly affects elderly females. May be caused in multiple sclerosis also.
Avatar f tn Hi, I had stayed away from cell phones for a good few years because of ear pain and head pressing and overall weird feelings in my head. Now, very recently I re-started using the cell phone only for written messages and voice out loud. I have been getting trigeminal neuralgia pain since then. This is my first search about this.
335728 tn?1331414412 I have MS and Trigeminal Neuralgia and I recently took a long trip on an airplane (8 hours). When the plane was descending every time (5 landings) I had an excrutiating pain in my right side of my cheek which subsided once the plane had landed. I am wondering if this could be a sinus problem or if it could be trigeminal neuralgia? I have no other symptoms of sinus problems...i.e. feeling congested, runny nose. I have CÖPD and Asthma as well but they are under control with medication.
Avatar n tn It has a similar pain sensation as that of trigeminal neuralgia but in a different location. This type of neuralgia is rare and is usually one sided. The pain can be felt in the throat, tonsillar region, back of the tongue (not front), and even the ear and neck. The pain can be triggered by various activities such as laughing, chewing, coughing, speaking, etc. The treatment is similar to that of trigeminal neuralgia. Medicines such as carbamazepine and phenytoin have had some success.
Avatar f tn twoe weeks later the pain returned and never went away, I started to get a severe pain in my ear, jaw joint and behind my ear when I talked or laughed, this got worse as time went on and I became poorley due to the amount of pain I was having.
Avatar f tn I have been treated by my PCP for closed head injury coming from my head on the left side being hit quite hard by a closing door causing my ear to be cut and head ache type pain following a day later and lasting to date. The pain I am experiencing is like no headache pain I have ever had. I have a sharp/ shock like feeling stemming from the location in which I was struck by the door. The pain radiates into my face. I have facial numbness along the side of my nose and under my cheek area.
Avatar m tn hello, i am 26 years old, female, and i am diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia, would like to know if its normal to feel pain in my ear...
Avatar n tn Has anyone out there been diagnosed with geniculate neuralgia and suffers thru constant ear pain (actually pain referred thru the ear)? If so, have you done anything about it or gone so far as to have the surgery that has a great cure rate, but unfortunately, there are not that many cases to compare aainst.
Avatar n tn it is always there just in varying degrees of severity along with neck pain and stiffness could trigeminal neuralgia present like that?
Avatar f tn From reading my info could this be trigeminal neuralgia or atypical trigeminal neuralgia, acute sinusitis, tinnitus, TMJ? Other than MRI are there any other procedures and scans that can be done to get a better look at my sinuses and internal ear. Can wisdom teeth cause these symptoms? My dentist recommends I extract all 4 wisdom tooth, can these extractions cause my symptom to increase.?

Avatar n tn I happen to come across this answer today as I have constant pain for the last few years. I have pain above in my left side of my head above my ear and i have pain on my left side of my neck. I have had trouble with my neck for years. I do not turn my head to the left very well. I have migraine headaches which are completely different then the above pain. I do realize the difference.
Avatar f tn it could be related to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain, otic neuralgia (a pain in the ear), occipital nerve pain (a sensory nerve that goes up to the scalp), or it could be a headache syndrome. Trigeminal neuralgia does not usually go to the scalp. I would recommend a thorough ENT evaluation and audiometry to exclude any other cause for this. A neurology evaluation may also be helpful.
Avatar n tn Headache and tingling and pain in left side of face could be due to trigeminal neuralgia, temporal arteritis, inner ear problem or TMJ. In TMJ there is pain on clenching the teeth. In Trigeminal neuralgia the point in front of the ear is usually painful on pressing. It could also be due to cold and sinusitis. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn If it is cheek, ear, etc. That is TN or Atypical face pain. If it is "behind the eye" and lasts for hours, I'd say cluster headache. If it is only behind the eye and lasts for seconds, I'd say CPH. CPH is easy to treat (Indocine.) So is TN (Teretol.) Cluster Headaches are a challenge. That's why they are called "suicide headaches." TN almost always aches and then has an "Electric ZAP" type pain.
Avatar f tn ve had headaches, eye pain and facial pain for some time now which was diagnosed as migraine, cluster headache and now trigeminal neuralgia. I am taking Gabapentin for this pain and it does work and relieves the pain until it wears off. Apart from the above, I get tingling in my cheek and sometimes temporary numbness and odd sensations spreading over my cheek.
Avatar m tn Ear numbness or pain can be due to pinched cervical spinal nerves, TMJ, peripheral neuropathy as in diabetes, ear infection, cold and in Bell’s palsy, trigeminal neuralgia where a spasm may cause numbness, or due to acoustic neuroma which is a benign tumor of the eighth cranial nerve. It can also be an atypical migraine. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining.
Avatar f tn i looked up the symptoms for trigeminal neuralgia and the pain i have is not excruciating and last a lot longer than a minute
Avatar f tn in headaches is important to diagnosis, so If your headache/pain persists and is ONLY one-sided and almost always consists of brief shots of severe pain, then it sounds as though trigeminal neuralgia remains a good bet. One-sidedness is important in the diagnosis of migraine, too. You mention pain from a tender gland on the right side of your neck, which makes me think it would be a good idea to google 'carotidynia,' which means 'carotid pain,' which can have various causes.
Avatar f tn I need some insight as to what's going on with recent blood tests. In April, I went to the doc for an ear infection that wouldn't go away. Doc did a standard CBC. It came back with elevated eosinphils at over 14%. She sends me to a hematologist / oncologist. Hemo doc repeats CBC and does a whole other battery of tests. Results show eos's still high, and total protein low. He sends me out for an echocardigram and a ct scan and a follow up appointment for a month later.
Avatar f tn The length of the episodes very from a minute to several minutes. The pain seems to be getting worse as the days go by. I had an absest tooth once and experiaced some ear pain with that, but I had that tooth pulled about 6 months ago. My remaining teeth I belive are ok, so I don't feel that the ear pain is related to dental problems a before. Please advise on what I should do.
