Common Questions and Answers about Treatment for rsv in toddlers

rsv

Avatar f tn My 11 week has rsv .. He was full term .. Has any other mother had this in a infant ..
377012 tn?1283965435 (crying all night) so i left out some info! in Oct. he was diagnosed with RSV and then again at the end of Nov.-first of Dec. he had it again! unfortunately RSV can take up to 8 weeks before it is released from your system hence why he had it twice in 2 months....the reason i thought it could be pneumonia is because of the way is chest moves when he breathes and because RSV can cause pneumonia to be set up in your system since your system is low especially in toddlers!
Avatar n tn It usually manifest itself as a cold in adults and older children, but can cause serious problems in infants. RSV can cause lower respitory infections, breathing problems, pneumonia or even death. According to statistics, over 125,000 infants are hospitalized annually with Respiratory Syncytial Virus, resulting in more than 500 deaths. RSV can be contracted by placing your hand in your mouth after you have come in contact with an infected person or surface.
Avatar f tn I read the paper ad it told me that in mild disease that no specific treatment is necessary. So I guess he is only a mild case, but I don't know how to tell if he is getting worse. I read on another site that family history of asthma puts him at a higher risk for becoming a severe case. I am know wen he is getting worse?
Avatar m tn Hello, my fellow dragon-fighting friends. I haven't been on this board for so long I was surprised it remembered my user name and password. I've seen all of this excitement about Acai Berry and Colon Cleanse, etc. with regard to weight loss, much more energy and improved memory. I haven't taken any yet because I wanted to do some research on it first, as any good HepC patient should do.
Avatar f tn He has pneumonia every other month (since birth), he has also had bronchiolitis (without RSV), bronchitis, H1N1, and most currently RSV. When he was two we removed his tonsil and adenoids in hopes to help his asthma symptoms. While it did decrease the amount of sinus infections he had, it did nothing to help any other area. He is on Advair, 115/21 two puffs twice daily, and Allegra (for unknown allergies).
Avatar f tn When my 4 year old had RSV when he was 5 weeks old, also on a vent for 11 days, (he had RSV a second time when he was 2 1/2 in the hospital 5 days no vent.) they said he could end up having asthma. Every time we go see the pulmonologist *sorry if I spelled it wrong, they ask how often does he couh at night. None, doen't cough in the day time either only when he is sick. So from what I was told and understand it does sound like he has asthma.
Avatar f tn A couple more details..she's had extensive immune system testing. All normal. Allergy tests all negative. Sweat chloride test normal. She's had 3 hospitalizations, first 2 for rsv/pneumonia, the 3rd for metapneumovirus and pneumonia. We've been doing pulmicort and now qvar for the past two years. Her CT scan was with contrast. Bronchoscopy showed the middle lobe was inflamed and the lavage fluid was tinted pink, indicating inflamation.
Avatar f tn I would be really careful my daughter was a preemie and as soon as we got home she ended up back in the hospital with rsv because this is the time of year its out. And because she was so small she almost died and ended up in a childrens hospital for 5 weeks. It was horrible.
Avatar m tn I was in the ER a year ago because I felt like I was suffocating to death, and was hearing crackles in my chest. RSV B virus according to the nasal aspiration test lab results. (RSV-a pleasant way to die-you slowly suffocate but don't have any of the nasal sinus throat pain that comes with flu.) Xrays were negative but oxygenation rate was 85% and they gave me oxygen and an Albuterol nebulizer treatment, discharged home with antibiotics and an inhaler.
593530 tn?1263847957 my daugter is 4 weeks old and she got RSV. She was hospitalized for 3 days and was being monitored for her oxygen levels. She is still coughing a lot and its hard to watch her. Doc said it can take upto a month or 2 to fully recover.
Avatar n tn My son has been diagnosed with phimosis. He is 22 months old. The hole at the tip of his foreskin is only open about the size of a pin. He is in great pain when he urinates. His penis balloon's up and then he is able to go, but runs around the house crying and holding himself for quite a while before he will void. Putting him in the bath seems to be the only way to 'make" him go, but it is still very painful.
Avatar n tn My son is going to be 2 months old soon and a couple of days after he was born they told me he has RSV, i have been in and out of the hospital so many times and he dose not seem to be getting any better. I have read everybody stories and How they lost their loved ones and i am so scared that it might happen to my son. Please is there anything that i can do to prevent this from getting worse???
Avatar f tn My son had rsv and the hospital kept him and thankfully we were released in a few hours because his breathing was better.its scary to do that at home, honestly they should of kept him he's only an infant ! Please contact a doctor I honestly don't think he should be home my son was two months old when he had it, and my husband ask if we can go home with him and they told us some pretty scary stuff .
1368291 tn?1299629804 Saturday he was having lots of nasal congestion and coughing so I took him to the ER. He tested positive for RSV so the last few days have been scary. We are doing a cool mist humidifier with eucalyptus oil at night, albuterol breathing treatments and keeping his nose suctioned out. I hope he gets better soon but I did learn that apparently you cant trust family to let you know...
Avatar f tn My grandchildren(2-3-4) were taken to ER cause of the same thing.Got this test and that done(no dehydration) and they said they had infectious diarreah. Not all the tests were back yet when they were told they could go home. Wouldn't ya know though..once they were in the ER they didn't all act sick.2 of them had spewed in the truck on the way there. They had been sick like yours for 3 weeks. Off and on this was going on.Gotta check back with my daughter abt the labs.
Avatar f tn My 2 year old son acquired severe RSV at 6 weeks old. Ever since then he now has virally induced asthma. So he's been hospitalized a few times with bronchiolitis when he was 1 years old. The typical treatment has been 2ce a day pulmicort and 3xs a day to every 4 hours of albuterol. If that didn't work they would add predisone and sometimes zithromax. And those combos knocked it out. Well he now has 3 weeks of a rattling cough that just doesn't go away.
551885 tn?1300383822 Last month was supposed to be the last but they called a couple of weeks ago and told us that half the kids that are coming in sick are testing positive for RSV and if Cassidy got it she would go back to the NICU again so I guess this month will be the last.
478429 tn?1265244387 -) Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers :-)
1347128 tn?1333810296 her doctor told me to get a humidifier and put it in the same room as the baby and turn or you could also turn on the hot water and get it steamy in there while you have your baby in there and that could help also, i did both of those thing with her and it helped alot!! also use salt water and squeeze it up your childs nose and suction it all out and do that before and after feedings and before bed also and when your baby wakes up . if your baby does not clear up in like 2.

Avatar f tn everytime I wake up in the morning I feel sick and when I am throwng up it is nothing really just stomach acid I guess. and it seems to me it is getting worse. I am just wondering what it could be. I had a baby 5 months ago, and I dont have a doctor to go get a physical.
480331 tn?1310403529 The most important probiotic for toddlers is bifidus, not found in most yoghurt. If you're going to use yoghurt, make sure you buy it in a health food store -- all probiotics are killed during pasteurization, so you need a company that adds back in live cultures. Still, yoghurt has very few cultures, so if you're dealing with a specific problem, such as a die-off due to antibiotic use, a supplement contains millions or billions of organisms.
Avatar f tn One of my friends new born baby was diagnosed with rsv she is only a month old she is still in the hospital. And last night her 2 year old got bit by a dog. She was rushed to the er . She has to save surgery this morning if you can please say a prayer for this family.
Avatar f tn There is no treatment for RSV (as far as I know), but only "supportive care", but I'd still want an ID doc to make sure there is nothing else going on - since her RSV was severe enough to require oxygen.
Avatar n tn Thank you for all your info and concern, it is much appreciated. My son has been in and out of the emergency room both Saturday and Monday for high fevers, cough, and low oxygen levels. The doctors believe it is only a virus, with his recurrent sleep apnea. Again no one wants to acknowledge the lymph node situation. All I want is reassurance of a CT. They say his CBC is fine. I am extremely nervous. Again thank you, and I will look up the cryoglobulin test.
Avatar f tn He has high average intelligence when assessed on non verbal tests. He scores in the 92nd percentile for some skills and in the 2nd for things like following verbal instructions.
