Common Questions and Answers about Treatment for laryngitis in toddlers

laryngitis

Avatar n tn I have been suffering from laryngitis for over 3 months and taking medication for the last 2 months. When I consulted a doctor a couple of weeks ago, he did a stroboscopy and said that it could be due to acid reflux; he prescribed "Pantadoc". I took that for a couple of weeks and did not obsserve any difference.
Avatar n tn This active infection, coughing, and clearing throat can often result in break in small blood vessels. Usually these heal with treatment of laryngitis which involves antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic drugs along with maybe decongestants, warm saline gargles and throat elixirs. Nervous system disorders, tumors of larynx, bony and other tumors compressing the larynx can all cause loss of voice. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral.
Avatar m tn Hello, There are many conditions which can cause difficulty in speaking at higher pitches. Voice misuse and overuse are common causes. Acute laryngitis caused by allergies, viral infection, chronic laryngitis and laryngoesophageal reflux all can cause hoarseness and voice difficulties. Rare but serious causes producing these symptoms are vocal cord paralysis and vocal cord tumours. Please see your Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor) for an evaluation.

Avatar m tn My Eye Doctor suggested I keep Restasis in the fridge to make more comfortable and reduce the burning and to keep using ir for 2 days. Does Restasis lose its effectiveness when placed in the fridge. Also when are results typically seen? I have a TBUT of 5 and hoping to see an increase if ues consistently.
Avatar f tn He had a sinus xray last year and a CAT Scan, 11-08. All were clear. He had an MRI in 11-09 when hospitalized for migraine, we went in level 8, left at level 6 apin level. That time torodol iv push worked. We have Rhinocort Aqua 32mcg, not sure if it strong enough, I am starting him back on it now, just in case. So would you recommend an ENT that is actual looking for something like that? Thanks!! 2.
Avatar f tn After one month I went to an ENT and he said it was acute laryngitis. My voice has almost returned to normal but there is a connstant tightness in my throat. If I cough the tightness goes away for a short time. It's very obvious when I try to talk. I get choked by the tightness and cough. Sometimes even after I cough I have trouble talking because of the tightness in my throat.
Avatar f tn after the vronchitis, had an asthma attack ended up in ER. Was admitted for 3 days. IV steroids and breathing treatments. Started coughing up mucus, gagging and choking. Told the dr that I was experiencing these symptoms, still sent me home w/7 days oral steroids. At home experienced gagging, choking and suffocation. Asthma dr who changed my nebulizer meds.I sounded like I was taking helium in. My voice was high pitched if I had a voice at all.
Avatar n tn My son has been diagnosed with phimosis. He is 22 months old. The hole at the tip of his foreskin is only open about the size of a pin. He is in great pain when he urinates. His penis balloon's up and then he is able to go, but runs around the house crying and holding himself for quite a while before he will void. Putting him in the bath seems to be the only way to 'make" him go, but it is still very painful.
Avatar f tn Okay, since 1992 I have had lots of throat infections in 1995 I had my tonsils and adanoids removed to help however it never did. And still had aleast 7 throat infections and laryngitis a year but since January this year I have had 20suvere throat infections all with laryngitis.
Avatar n tn It is usually not the drug of choice for UTI but is mostly used in otitis media (infection of the middle ear), tonsillitis, laryngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, and sinusitis. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn However, a side effect of both medications is laryngitis. I recently had laryngitis for 6 weeks. It started as a virus and would not go a way. I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed. She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes.
Avatar f tn I just finished taking Azithromycin yesterday for what must of been a bacterial infection of my sinuses and lungs. It started as a cold. The cold went away but I was experiencing shortness of breath and post nasal drip that just wasn't subsiding. I went to two doctors. The first doctor prescribed a corticosteroid nasal spray (Omnaris). This helped a bit for the post nasal drip but wasn't addressing the shortness of breath or chronic cough that wasn't going away on its own.
Avatar m tn Hi there, Any infection in the body should be treated. Dental abscesses and pus pockets in the throat warrant evaluation and complete treatment with antibiotics. Persistent sore throat can be due to many causes like glandular fever, tonsillitis, laryngitis and cancer. It is suggested to see an ENT surgeon and get checked. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar n tn if could be any of the following Blood clot in the lung Bronchiectasis Bronchitis Cancer Cystic fibrosis Goodpasture syndrome Inflammation of the blood vessels in the lung (vasculitis) Inhaling blood into the lungs (pulmonary aspiration) Irritation of the throat from violent coughing Nosebleed that drips blood down into the lungs Laryngitis Pneumonia Pulmonary edema Systemic lupus erythematosus Tuberculosis
Avatar f tn I would be loathe to up the dose until after you have started treatment. It is common for the interferon to cause serotonin depletion and by starting the Prozac before the interferon whill hopefully offset any negative effects you might feel. I was on Prozac before I started and had to increase it after about 5 weeks of treatment. All the best. Epi.
Avatar m tn Do you have deviated nasal septum or sinusitis? Chronic discharge from sinuses drain out constantly in throat, causing sticky throat. Treatment is anti histamincs, decongestants along with antibiotics. Try steam inhalation along with ambroxol. For laryngitis, usually steriods are prescribed but best is to consult ENT surgeon. Indirect laryngoscopy is done to see larynx condition.

Avatar f tn I have had a series of symptoms going on 3 weeks, from a nasal drip, to mucus, laryngitis, to now a deep chest couph. Am on amoxicillin but it doesn't seem to be helping. My chest has this "gurgling". Any help. Getting tired of being sick.
Avatar f tn I have had laryngitis and hoarseness, which is getting worse now. In my 6th wk of treatment and wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Have had in the past, never this bad. Any thoughts would be appreiciated. Other then normal allergies, and some fatigue, no other changes. Could my liver have an effect on my vocal cords, throat,, etc.?
Avatar f tn This may be way too simplistic but .... are you drinking enough water?
480331 tn?1310403529 The most important probiotic for toddlers is bifidus, not found in most yoghurt. If you're going to use yoghurt, make sure you buy it in a health food store -- all probiotics are killed during pasteurization, so you need a company that adds back in live cultures. Still, yoghurt has very few cultures, so if you're dealing with a specific problem, such as a die-off due to antibiotic use, a supplement contains millions or billions of organisms.
Avatar f tn However I have been sick a few times since then and every time the virus turns straight into terrible laryngitis. Before the surgery I very rarely ever got laryngitis but now it comes on so easily and lasts for a while. Is there any reason that this would be connected to my thyroid surgery? Wondering if this is still part of the healing process or not? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!
Avatar f tn My 9yr old has had a sore throat for about two weeks. Her throat is red but no visible white bumps or pus. Her voice is hoarse but she has no other symptoms.
Avatar n tn I have developed a chronic dry cough & laryngitis, currently I have been dealing with symptoms for a month. I went thru same illness 5months ago was in the hospital & then passed around to various specialists without any real answers. I have done allergy testing, tests to rule out relfux, seen ENT, pulmonlogist, & family dr multiple times with not much success. No one can tell me why I got better last time, or why I am dealing with the same situation again.
Avatar n tn Please someone help me, I am a 40y female who has been healthy my entire life. Back in April '09 I had severve laryngitis. In May my voice started to crack & sound different, by June I had double ear infections & dizziness ( I passed out). Given medication for the ears, they healed. Still had voice problems, sent to ENT; Found a small nodule on my right vocal cord.
Avatar n tn Thank you for all your info and concern, it is much appreciated. My son has been in and out of the emergency room both Saturday and Monday for high fevers, cough, and low oxygen levels. The doctors believe it is only a virus, with his recurrent sleep apnea. Again no one wants to acknowledge the lymph node situation. All I want is reassurance of a CT. They say his CBC is fine. I am extremely nervous. Again thank you, and I will look up the cryoglobulin test.
