hypoglycemia

Avatar n tn The other term for Reactive Hypoglycemia is postprandial hypoglycemia. It is no longer diagnosed using the glucose tolerance test due to the number of severe reactions. I hope this helps.
1654177 tn?1319838494 Anyway, I told my doctor at Kaiser and she ran a random blood glucose test (non-fasting). My blood sugar was 68 ml/dl, the standard range is 70-140 ml/dl. She says to just eat less carbs and do more cardio exercise, and that this could be pre-diabetes. The part that concerns me is the numb feet. I have cut down carbs in the past 2 weks and continued to exercise more, but still my feet are numb, and hurt sometimes. Any advice?
Avatar n tn I am dizzy and nausea after eating what is it, I have had my blood sugar tested several times at the clinic and all come back normal, a few years ago a doctor had me get MRI of brain done and it was fine but still no answers. I can go months with out a dizzy spell and all of a sudden have them all the time. Any comments or suggestions would be helpfull. Thanks in advance.
Avatar n tn 30 a.m. on a Saturday. I had eaten breakfast only about an hour before, maybe up to two hours. My blood glucose was 61. I guess I have two questions. The first is whether I should get tested for anything like adrenal deficiencies or something else? The second pertains to diet. The advice I've gotten from those close to me is to eat protein, try to limit carbs, definitely keep sugar intake as low as possible.
Avatar n tn does a fasting or glucose tolerance test need to be done to diagnose diabetes (or hypoglycemia), or is this non-fasting number sufficient to suggest there is nothing wrong? thanks.
Avatar n tn I am diabetic, but do often deal with hypoglycemia. I have relatives and friends who are reactive hypoglycemics -- the worst has to avoid caffeine as well as high-glycemic index foods.
863754 tn?1239144755 If she can make it out of the hospital, and I know what caused her glucose problem, then we might be able to get her treatment for it, as the glucose is what nearly killed her in the first place. Thank you, Dr. Santos... If you have any ideas, please let me know and I'll discuss them with her doctor. And for anyone reading this... I'm not a christian myself, but she is a devout christian, so if you're a christian too, pray for her. She needs all the help she can get. Thanks again!
Avatar f tn What is the best, cheapest and most available treatments for hep c, and from your experience how bad off are you if the virus is affecting your blood sugar?

Avatar f tn For some people, Metformin can cause glucose [blood sugar] levels to drop too low [hypoglycemia]. This often times happens when Metformin is combined with other diabetes medications, and is more common in elderly folks or folks with internal organ issues. Low glucose also can happen when fasting before surgery or a blood test/s and after lengthy exercise. You should notify your doctor of your low glucose experiences ASAP. Ask your doctor how to adjust your Metformin dose if needed.
Avatar n tn Managed Hashimotos well for 10 years. Always had low but within range A1Cs and glucose for as long as I can recall. Situation: Last week for several days I had been having severe nonstop heart palpitations after eating (mostly carbohydrates). Finally it got so bad I could feel my heart struggling to pump so I went to the ER, and they referred me to a cardiologist. Cardiologist ran an echo in his office. Nothing was found but PVCs.
Avatar n tn Have you heard of insulin resistance? This may be partially to blame for hypoglycemia if it is "rebound", meaning her blood sugars may not sharply exceed the high levels, but if she eats a heavy meal -especially one high in simple carbohydrates- several hours later it "crashes" giving her hypoglycemia. It was explained to me that the insulin triggers becomes overreactive and dump a large amount of insulin in response to the free sugars in her system.
Avatar f tn In the (1) condition, the simple carbs will deliver a bolus of glucose right into your blood, creating a spike in blood sugar, and then your body will react by secreting insulin to bring it low.
Avatar f tn I will go ahead with the one-time glucose test firstly and if no answers I will ask for the glucose tolerance test....and lastly the antibody test. Thanks so much for the info. It would be nice to get to the bottom of what the problem is, so my boy can off-load the nausea and fatigue etc. ...
Avatar n tn Then make sure you get an A1C test, not just a fasting blood sugar test. The A1C tests all your glucose for the last couple months, not just one moment.
2088051 tn?1334542007 I Mean I've Already Been To A Doctor Like A Month Or So Ago And He Basically Told Me To Keep Orange Juice And Peanut Butter Crackers.. Avatar n tn org/forums/Diabetes---Adult-Type-II/show/46 While there is some degree of variability among people, most will usually develop symptoms suggestive of hypoglycemia when blood glucose levels are lowered to the mid 60's. The first set of symptoms are called adrenergic (or sympathetic) because they relate to the nervous system's response to hypoglycemia.
Avatar n tn This is not something I have ever seen happen, although I have noticed that if my glucose levels are in the middle of dropping quickly, I can FEEL hypoglycemic, break out in a sweat, etc. even though the numbers are not below the normal range at that exact time. So I suppose it is possible that this was the case. When I show symptoms of hypoglycemia but the number on my glucometer shows me to be in the normal range, I have learned to trust the symptoms and treat it like hypoglycemia.
1523917 tn?1302215871 There are no medicines that are normally prescribed for hypoglycemia. There are glucose tabs that you can take as you feel your sugar is too low if you cannot eat at that time. She is correct. I would not recommend seeking a second opinion for this. Make sure you eat at regular times everyday.
649848 tn?1534633700 Insulin levels have only been measured a couple of times. The last time it was measured blood glucose was 125, with insulin at 8.1. Blood glucose was considered to be in pre-diabetic range, while insulin level was considered to be normal. Now that I've had the GTT, my doctor says instead of pre-diabetes, I have Reactive Hypoglycemia...
Avatar f tn Without proper testing results one assumption is you experienced reactive hypoglycemia. Reactive hypoglycemia [or alimentary hypoglycemia] is low glucose [blood sugar] that occurs after a meal — usually one to three hours after eating. Try the following: • Eat several small meals and snacks throughout the day, no more than three hours apart. • Eat a well-balanced diet including lean and nonmeat sources of protein and high-fiber foods including whole grains, fruit and vegetables.
