eczema

Avatar m tn I belive I have eczema in my genital area because I have it also on my chest. I've tried treating it with different types of lotions but lotions seem to make it worse. I tend to scrath the area because of the itchiness which then leads to breaking of the skin at the base of my penis. Never breaking of the skin anywhere else in the genital region, just at the crevase of the lower pubic area at the base of the penis.
Avatar n tn Hi, It could be an eczema present in the buttocks. The term eczema is broadly applied to a range of persistent skin conditions. These include dryness and recurring skin rashes which are characterized by one or more of these symptoms: redness, skin edema (swelling), itching and dryness, crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking, oozing, or bleeding. Atopic eczema is believed to have a hereditary component, and often runs in families whose members also have hay fever and asthma.
Avatar m tn Anti-itch drugs, often antihistamine, may reduce the itch during a flare up of eczema, and the reduced scratching in turn reduces damage and irritation to the skin. For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone or desonide), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide). Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin. Moisturizing is one of the most important self-care treatments for sufferers of eczema.

Avatar n tn However, this is such a sensitive part of his body I have been very nervous about what I am doing. Any suggestions on treating eczema on this part of the body? Thanks.

Avatar m tn Eczema is a form of atopic dermatitis. There are certain other non-pharmacological measures which are equally important in treating atopic dermatitis.
Avatar m tn I have experienced a mild form of eczema on my lips for some time now. I was treating it with Protopic ointment. It seemed to work for a while, as long as I was using it every day. However my question involves the inner part of my bottom and upper lip. It forms a rough whitish skin that compels me to bite at it or pick at it. Is this rough white skin (that appears to be dead skin by the way) part of the eczema that is affecting the part of my lips on the inside of my mouth?
Avatar n tn Lyme borreliosis has cutaneous manifestations, but do not fit in with the eczema, psoriasis pattern in histopathology and has typical clinical features.Could you kndly send a photo and the histopath report.Personally I am vary of using methotrexate in children- possibly because my experience here may be limited or me being overcautious.
Avatar f tn There are certain other non-pharmacological measures which are equally important in treating atopic dermatitis. These are lubricating the skin frequently, avoiding harsh soaps and cleansers, preventing scratching or rubbing whenever possible, protecting skin from excessive moisture, irritants, and rough clothing, maintaining a cool, stable temperature and consistent humidity levels, limiting exposure to dust, pollens, and animal dander. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn I've had eczema my whole life too on my legs. While I understand how much more personal it must feel to have it in your privates, you should know that I spent years wearing long pants because I was too embarrassed of my legs- the scratches, the scars, and the jerks who would say "omg what happened??!" I thought I could never wear short shorts because of it, and it's even worse because shaving irritates it.
Avatar n tn What kind of doctor has been treating his eczema? Dermatologist can treat the symptoms but not always the cause. I would recommend that he see an allergist that specializes in eczema. Eczema frequently has an allergic cause. Treat the underlying allergy and the eczema clears up. I know some people who have had success with Allergra and Zyrtec. My daughter only has eczema in the winter when she is not out side as much. This may also be related to a low vitamin D level.
Avatar f tn Have you seen a doctor about this? You're treating it as if it's a fungal infection, but you may have eczema, just really dry skin, an allergic reaction, or something else. After 7 years, it's time to see a doctor and get this properly treated. If you've been seeing a doctor who has been treating you like this for 7 years, find a new doctor.
583092 tn?1218128207 Corticosteroids have traditionally been considered the most effective method of treating severe eczema. Disadvantages of using steroid creams include stretch marks and thinning of the skin. Higher-potency steroid creams must not be used on the face or other areas where the skin is naturally thin; usually a lower-potency steroid is prescribed for sensitive areas.

Avatar m tn ve tried treating it with prescription medication for eczema but it had no impact. The same medicine helps eczema that I have on my foot (which I started getting just about a year ago. I've tried applying Vaseline then wearing gloves. The only thing that sometimes helps is covering it non-stop with band aids so it doesn't get any air, but the band aids are rough on my skin. I've also tried giving up gluten. I'm only 3 weeks into that but it's just spreading more.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed by a dermatologist with eczema / dermatitis of my penis glans. I've been treating with prescribed TCI (Protopic) for approx. 10 months, twice daily. I was not making very good progress over this time. Upon visiting my doctor a week ago he suggested that I switch to a combination of Hydrocortisone 1% & Protopic. I would apply Hydrocortisone in the morning and Protopic in the evening. I did this for one week and made pretty decent progress.
Avatar f tn Target has a generic aveeno white bottle brown cap in the lotion section. Oatmeal baths. The steroid cream is NOT to be used on pregnant women unless the risk outweighs the problem.... I have to put it on my lil man and read the bottle after the first time putting on him and now make my husband do it just in case. The lotion works pretty good. The Dr said you can use crissco, Vaseline, auqaphor... However it's spelt.
Avatar n tn This could be dry skin, a fungal infection, dermatitis or eczema. 4268628 tn?1375041176 Lol...nope it won't be around forever. You can thank your plummeting hormones for changes to your skin. It's like the whole 9 months wasn't enough and pregnancy has to get in a few last digs. My skin goes haywire after all of my deliveries too. How are mommy and baby?! Besides the eczema?
Avatar m tn The cellulitis appeared when I scratched an eczema. The eczema had been treated with clobetazone cream for 6 weeks, which may explain the bacterial infection. I've never felt any pain and the swelling was controlled the first days of treatment. The question is, my doctor has suspended the antibiotics, but I don't know if the infection is totally gone. The skin in the area is not bright red anymore, and is not particularly hot.
Avatar f tn Okay..since I've been pregnant my eczema has flared up and is extremely uncomfortable. ... does anyone know of any safe remedies I could use?
Avatar f tn ve noticed where it itches on my belly i will get bright red patches and it will seem really irritated. eczema does run in my family but i have never had it. im 32 weeks along i figured if something like this was to come during pregnancy it would have earlier not this late. i do not see my doctor until thursday to ask about it. Avatar n tn I had been treating my 3 cats for fleas and thought one had gone crazy and bitten me all over my stomach in the night. There are about 40 pink flat bumps, but they don't itch. Could this be a type of viral infection rash?
