709537 tn?1232584855 Hello, My husband is concerned about side effect he is experiencing since starting Travatan eye drops. In the process of diagnosing possible glaucoma He has been prescribed Travatan [travoprost opthalmic solution) 0.004% 1 gtts Left Eye per day. On day 3 of using these drops he is experiencing the following symptoms: tenderness of the eye [feels bruised when touching lid].
Avatar n tn ...I left out: Pfizer makes Xalatan. By the way, if you use pills, your MD (I doubt) will agree, because the drug is not concentrated in the eye, plus you have "systemic" side effects because the drug is running through your body (rather than staying mostly in the eye). Xalatan, and the others that are similar lower IOP more than other drug classes...you need to ask what your IOP is and see that it stays in the healthy range, since glaucoma damage can be permanent. However...
Avatar f tn If you still have it read the package insert that you get when you get a new bottle of medicine. Or go on the internet and read the side effects. I would be worried about being under the care of anyone that did not recognize these as common problems. If you see an optometrist I would suggest switching to an Eye MD ophthalmologist, if you see an ophthalmologist I would suggest getting a second or third opinion from a different Eye MD perhaps one that specializes in glaucoma.
493068 tn?1224765315 I use Travatan drops for the glaucoma so is there a difference Travatan Z? I do eye srubs every dayx2 with mild cetaphil soap since I have the inflammatory Rosacea on my face as well. I need relief somehow. My eyes burn all the time. It has been so difficult the last few weeks. I really appreciate you help. Hopefully I spelled correctly. It hurts to look at his screen. btw i also have plugs.
Avatar m tn You may need switched to Travatan Z which is both stronger and gentler on the eye. The IOP in your eye changes hourly so there is no "safe" IOP.
Avatar n tn Should I be treating with drops for a while (and the side effects) or is a better altrenative to do a careful wait and see approach?
Avatar m tn Traditional medicine is just too ridiculously dangerous from side effects. Most side effects are far more dangerous and unpleasant than the malady they are designed to treat.
Avatar n tn Azopt is a great medicine but sometimes expensive. Lumigan I really dislike because it causes red, inflammed, irritated eye, permanent dark circles around the eyelids and orbital fat atrophy with sunken in eyes and droopy lids way too often. Travatan-A is much better, longer acting, lowers IOP more and doesn't cause near the side effects of Lumigan.
493068 tn?1224765315 I have found something by accident that has worked for me for the past month. I was jet skiing with some friends and decided to jump off in the water and swim around. I got home and decided to sit in my chair for awhile and watch TV before i went and took a shower. My fiancee came in and gave me a kiss and said man, your face is really clear. I ran into the bathroom and looked in the mirror and she was right, my rosacea was gone.
Avatar m tn t anything wrong with the eye and vision should be 20-20 My current doctor ( after taking web advice to keep trying and not give up ) said I may be having a toxic reaction to my drops . He flushed eyes and discontinued drops and after 4 weeks vision started improving--now in 8 months it is now is a very blurry 20-40 or decent 20-50 . Drug company and current doc both said it happens --- Do think the doc may be right???
Avatar m tn So if people want to use the Lumigan drops instead of Latisse for whatever reason, lashes, etc and they don't have glaucoma, is it deemed safe to use? other than the known minor side effects that occur in some?
Avatar m tn Thanks to eye medications containing benzalconium chloride to which I appear to be allergic, I have a deterioration of vision due to scarring. The visual effect is similar to that caused by keratoconus (see Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Kc_simulation.jpg) and for point of light, I see about 5 degraded images (again see Wikipedia http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/d/d7/Kc_simulation2.png/220px-Kc_simulation2.png).
Avatar f tn I take cytomel, lyrica (which I am wondering about), nexium, travatan eye drops for high eye pressure, and trazadone to sleep.I also take birth control for pain and was told to stop on Wed. and start taking an aspirin. I had double vision two months ago, 3 episodes of blurred vision with low vision, and eye achiness. I'm not myself and frightened. One optho doc (from out of town) said go to ER immediately if it happens and the opthomalogist here thought it wasn't necessary. Any input?
Avatar f tn has tried me without the drops (pressure soared) and on other drops that didnt work or that I had side effects with so Cosopot it is. I was just curious to know if anyone else on Cosopt has experienced these side effects or if it is just me.
493068 tn?1224765315 I would talk to the ophthalmologist about stopping travatan for a couple of weeks to see if that makes any difference. The most common side effect of travatan is redness and irritation of the eyes. If you're a lot better there or other medications for glaucoma that can be tried that are less likely to cause irritation or you consider a glaucoma laser RX (SLT).
Avatar m tn At first with only one eye I had about 15,000 per day, now with drops in both eyes they have gone up to almost 30,000 per day. There where no other medication changes during that time. I don't think that the active ingredients cause the problem, but what about the Benzalkonium Chloride (BAK) that is the preservative in the drops, could that cause the problem? has there been any research done on this?
6218685 tn?1379633270 while all the eye drops in that family (latanoprost, lumigan and travatan-Z can cause dark pigmentation around the eyelids I have never had (of the thousands of patient's I've treated with these medications) or read in the medical journals about the pigment occurring within 5 days. If that is the case one of a kind.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the response.....I made an appointment to see my ophthalmologist next week for a complete exam....Hopefully, I can discontinue using the Travatan Z.....I'm concerned there are side effects with long term use when there is no longer a pressure need.
Avatar m tn I am 36 year old caucasian male, near sighted. Around 6/09 I noticed that my eye pupils vary in size with no other symptoms. Earlier that year, 2/09, I was diagnosed with partial vitreous detachment in both eyes but from what I understand it is not relevant and my doctor did not comment on my pupil size so I do not think it was present at the moment ( I was examined before being dilated).
1108194 tn?1378424522 She is also on Glaucoma eye drops. She is experiencing extreme fatigue and she said her thoughts/memory seem fuzzy. How long do these side effects last? My mother is a small person who doesn't take any other medications except for the eyes. She works out everyday. She isn't up to that either. Does she have to get these every 4 weeks or can they space them out more or lesser dose?
Avatar m tn I am doing my drops and pain medications as prescribed, but I am keeping the patch on my eye all the time because I am actually afraid to take it off except to put in my drops and change the patch. When should I remove the patch? I thank you for any support and answers to my questions.
Avatar m tn I did take Diamox for a while, but the side effects are bad. I have had a laser photocoagulation procedure in that eye as well. My cataract surgeon thinks that my cataract, long overdue for removal, in that eye contributed to the pressure problem. One doctor called the cataract diamond hard. I wish there were a home test device for IOP. Apparently, someone at the University of Arizona has invented one, but it is still being tested..
