Avatar f tn Is anyone out there having bouts of extreme nausea and severe constipation while taking Verapamil? Are there alternatives that I can take. Verapamil is prescribed to me for atrial fibrillation along with flecanide.
Avatar f tn I haven't seen any evidence to suggest so. Just to clarify something Cindy mentions above, Verapamil isn't a beta blocker. Verapamil is a calcium channel clocker. Verapamil is a class IV antiarrhythmic. It alters calcium uptake in the heart's muscle cells. Its intended use is for lowering blood pressure. One could say that being on it for 5 years caused your heart muscle to get used to it. Stopping it abruptly was a no-no.
343006 tn?1314446471 ve been on boty Verapamil and Bystolic but never together. I went off Verapamil because of the bloating, gas and constipation. Went off the Bystolic cause of the breathing problems it was causing. What is your condition that you need to be on a beta blocker or Calcium channel blocker? I went to anogther Doc who told me verapamil doesn't absorb hence the bloating so he put me on Diltiazem (Cardizem) 24 hour release capsules. Hoping it doesn't cause the intesinal issues.
324184 tn?1308076203 I am currently seeing put me on Nadolol which my body did not like, it effected my blood circulation and so on and so forth so he took me off that and decided we should try Verapamil [daily] and frova [spell check] as needed, does anyone have an insight on either of these medications? It seems like I have tried everything in the book and I am so tired of filling my body of pills with all these different, terrible side effects..

324184 tn?1308076203 I would suggest you to consult your specialist before starting verapamil again. It seems you suffered some kind of allergic reaction to Verapamil which resulting in excessive chest pain and shortness of breath. In these cases the medication is topped abruptly. Please do not start the medication on your own. There are other options available please check with your doctor at your earliest. Take care!
Avatar m tn I have been on Verapamil for years with no apparent problems, but recently heard it can cause dry eye and cataract. My eyes have been getting bad for quite some time and have been followed by an opthamologist who never said the verapamil could be the culprit. Now I have a cataract, tons of floaters, and other problems. Anyone else experience this and if so what do you suggest?
Avatar n tn I don't remember having frequent hot flashes with Verapamil - but the doctor switched me to Cardizem as the Verapamil wasn't helping my arrythmia. Sorry - I can't relate - I'm 69 and still have hot flashes like once every 3 months.

Avatar n tn I am a 38 year old female with SVT and migraine. I was started on verapamil 120 mg then advised to increase the dose to 240 mg. At 240 mg, I experienced severe palpitations which woke me up at night, caused shortness of breath, and fullness in my neck. When I decreased the dose to 120 mg, the palpitations resolved.
Avatar f tn I'm on verapamil ER 180 mg daily. Have been taking Verapamil for 17 years. I've never felt quite "right" on it but it hasn't been awful, either. However, over the past year or two, I'm having lots of flushing, I get SO hot, and also have some shortness of breath. I am also on levothyroxine for my thyroid; however, that has been well-controlled for a long time. I really suspect it is my Verapamil causing these side effects.
343006 tn?1314446471 hi : im taking verapamil 100mg a day regular release pill- im allergic to most dieuretics so im on spirolactone 25mg per day single pill - went to cardio doctor 4 months ago he added bystolic at 2.5 mg daily said it would lower h.rate and keep b.p in check. and to take it with verapamil and spiroactone daily wont hurt a thing. after 2months on it started getting nightmares and vivid dreams -waking up suddenly with rapid heart beats -and super high b.
