Answer - Ultram (Tramadol) Withdrawal Tramadol is highly addictive. Normally your doctor would reduce intake slowly. Various withdrawal effects may include shakes, shivers, diarrhea, nausea, and possible flu-like symptoms. Not all people experience will all withdrawal symptoms, and some people may experience others not listed here.
Avatar f tn Tramadol is known to result in withdrawal effects when it is immediately stopped. The symptoms might include: Anxiety, sweating, insomnia, chills, pain, nausea, tremors, diarrhea, upper respiratory symptoms, hallucinations (rarely). The manufacturer states that tapering off of the medication may reduce the chance of these withdrawal effects, however, no specific tapering schedule is mentioned.
Avatar n tn today is day 4 of withdrawal from Dr prescribed 50mg tramadol. I was taking 300-400 mg daily for 2 months for pain post bad hysterectomy a year ago. I just discovered drug dependency a couple of weeks ago when I quit taking the drug for a day due to no pain. I had the worst night of my life and got relief almost immediately after taking the drug again. I have taken hydrophone, codeine, Vicodin, and others post surgery as the Dr recommended and have never had a problem with addiction.
Avatar m tn I would have been 8 weeks off of the Vicodin as well because I stopped both these drugs at the same time, but I took Vicodin to ease withdrawal symptoms after 14 days off of all drugs, and to my surprise, I didn't feel ANY euphoria from the Vicodin. I still felt the depressing effects of it when I came down from it, but no euphoria AT ALL.
Avatar f tn You're making the right decision. Tramadol withdrawal makes hydrocodone withdrawal look like a day at beach! I've been through both, and I know. It's AWFUL! Just get rid of it. It's not even a good pain killer anyway! You'll end up having pain that is CAUSED by tramadol if you stay on it long enough. Just get rid of it, and move on! BTW....sorry about the hands. Keep soaking them and using ice and heat and IBU. You'll get much more relief that way!
Avatar f tn Once the onset of withdrawal begins people naturally tend do the easy thing and take more Tramadol to rid themselves of the unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. The sensible way to withdraw from it would be to gradually reduce the dose or if you don’t want to do it this way take a drug like Valium (not addictive for me) which would enable you to sleep and reduce the unpleasant withdrawal symptoms considerably.
Avatar f tn I had taken a few tramadol to help me get though the horrible withdrawal symptoms the first 2 or 3 days but I flushed them too because I felt it was just setting me back. But anyways...Day 5 and I actually feel like I am going to make it though this big ol speed bumb! :-) I'm by far 100% but I do feel much better about myself know that I am not on drugs and have no desire to be.
Avatar m tn So I had no clue that this was addictive and there would be withdrawal symptoms. I only took 1 200mg timed release per day (at night so I could sleep) for severe osteoarthritis pain. Being a dentist, the pain was so bad I needed this to sleep and be functional the next day. The arthritis pain forced me to retire recently. Now that I'm retired, I decided to A) lose some weight (chronic pain really puts the pounds on you), and B) give my body a break from the Tramadol.
Avatar f tn I've been on and off tramadol since I injured my knee in late April. At first I took it every day for 5 weeks. Then I stopped with no problems. There were times after when I would take one and then go weeks without it and never had any trouble. I take one 300mg tablet at night before bed and it last 24 hours. 3 weeks ago my doctor but me on 50mg Vyvanse for ADD which didn't work causing withdrawal so he switched me to 20mg Adderall which also didn't work so he stopped me cold turkey.
Avatar f tn I was checked by a nurse practitioner who says my heart and lungs are perfect, etc. Are these rather bizarre developments basically withdrawal from Tramadol? I do take Calmes Forte to help me sleep at night and have had no problems with sleep. From my reading I do understand that weaning off of this drug can be quite an ordeal but I would like to rule out other issues. Thanks for any suggestions or experience with this drug.
Avatar n tn If I taper slowly off of tramadol, can I avoid withdrawal symptoms all together? Or will I feel withdrawal pains no matter what?
Avatar n tn Yes, you may be experiencing withdrawal symptoms. The withdrawal is unusual with tramadol; some people have very uncomfortable symptoms, and others have none at all. Starting the Cymbalta may reduce your withdrawal to some extent, as Cymbalta is a serotonin (and norepinephrine) reuptake blocker, and some of the withdrawal from Tramadol comes from changes in serotonin activity. The withdrawal is not 'dangerous', so do your best to avoid concentrating on them.
Avatar f tn I just realized it could be connected, so I stopped for good a couple days ago. Not having any kind of withdrawal symptoms, although when I first stopped taking it before, I had a short period of depression. My husband noticed the other morning that I'm clenching my jaw in my sleep, something I've never done. I also don't understand why alcohol makes back of head start hurting within an hour of drinking it...that just started too.
Avatar m tn Hello, everyone. I'm another victim of tramadol addiction. I was prescribed this medication when I was 15. Became dependent to it when I was 16. Now, I'm 21 and still can't get off of this drug. Most of the problem lies with me. A part of me is so angry and wanting to fight a cold-turkey attempt. But the other half of me just doesn't remember life before tramadol. So I keep submitting.
Avatar f tn You are going to go thru withdrawals. The exedrin will help, but, you will still experience some withdrawal symptoms. It will not be easy, but, it will get better. You are doing the right thing by tapering. Be patient with yourself and know that it will get better. I did the Tramadol withdrawal too. You are at the right place. Keep posting, you will get a ton of support and it is so helpful. You can do this. And I promise you will feel better than you can imagine when you are clean!
Avatar f tn Hi, welcome to the forum. Getting here and looking for answers is the first step. The withdrawal is uncomfortable at the least, but it's a 14 day span at the most for the physical symptoms. How much and how long and what drug have you been using. There is always someone here who can offer more specific advice.
Avatar m tn Tramadol is Tramadol...Whether listed as Tramadol HCL or Tramadol. It's a chemical vastly like Effexor but without opiate properties. Think of it as a stripped down version of codeine with antidepressant properties. Ultram is nothing more than the Brand name for Tramadol and Ultram ER is a timed release of Tramadol. Ultracet is merely Tramdol and Tylenol in the same pill.
501205 tn?1227345442 Posted that at about the same time - but it definitely appears you are right.
Avatar n tn my doctor told me it was NON ADDICTIVE. HE LIED! I dont wanna feel the withdrawls that i did last week so how can i wean myself off of them with out feeling this way? im down to 150-200mg a day now and i cant imagine just cold turkey... any sudgestions?? help me please... Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn My doctor replaced 1/2 of my daily Tramadol dose with Vicodin and I continued that for a year. I did get very uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms from the Tramadol when that switch was made. However... My doctor a year later completely took me off the Tramadol and replaced it with Morphine ER with Percocet for break through pain and I had no withdrawal symptoms from stopping the Tramadol at all!!!
Avatar n tn ve been using a lot because I already have a high tolerance to opiates, what I wanted to know is if withdrawal symtoms of Morphine are any worse than Tramadol, because I think I may need to progress to that eventually. I have permanent nerve damage.
484857 tn?1208588868 Ultram is a serotonin reuptake inhibator, similar to anti-depressant medicines) and so the withdrawal symptoms can be similar even though it is used for pain relief. It is one of the most difficult drugs to get off of. The withdrawal is just horrendous but I now feel great except for the sleep troubles. It happens just as I am dropping off to sleep. I wake up with a blast of adrenaline that surges from the stomach. Sometimes I feel a shock like feeling in my head/brain.
Avatar f tn I found this on Wiki and it does say it is and opiod and also says this - Tramadol is associated with the development of physical dependence and a severe withdrawal syndrome.[59] Tramadol causes typical opiate-like withdrawal symptoms as well as atypical withdrawal symptoms including seizures. The atypical withdrawal symptoms are probably related to tramadol's effect on serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake.
Avatar f tn Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Do not stop using tramadol suddenly, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, sweating, nausea, diarrhea, tremors, chills, hallucinations, trouble sleeping, or breathing problems. Talk to your doctor about how to avoid withdrawal symptoms when stopping the medication. Do not crush the tramadol tablet. This medicine is for oral (by mouth) use only.
