Avatar f tn Vicodin is a higher pain killer than tramadol. Tramadol to me is no different to tylenol, then i have some friends that are addicted to it. I am coming off of vicodin and i dont sugest anyone take it for any periods of time. I dont know your story but if possible i would stray from vicodin. LIke i said i have used them both and vicodin gave the the pain relief and the "high" i was looking for tramadol didnt even touch the pain.
Avatar n tn The reason you're not feeling any better pain-wise is because tramadol is weak as pain medications go. It's not as strong as Vicodin. The reason you're not having any withdrawal symptoms from the Vicodin though is because the tramadol is still stimulating your MU receptors, which are the same receptors that the Vicodin attaches to, therefore as far as your body is concerned, you are still taking a narcotic. That's the problem with tramadol.
Avatar n tn I hate to say it but if you get them changed like that you will be in alot more pain. This is just my option. Tramadol did nothing for me. I know it is more for nerve pain, that is why my father inlaw is taking it.
Avatar m tn It is easier to get off Vicodin than ultram (aka tramadol) because tram is synthetic and contains an antidepressant. Like sub and methadone, also synthetic, the withdrawal is long and arduous. Vicodin is the weaker of the narcotic pain meds and detox, although not fun, is over relatively quick. 1 to 2 weeks tops. Tram w/d lasts for months.
1182411 tn?1265321044 Hey all... Well I've made it to day 13, absolutely zero vicodin / hydrocodone... BUT... I threw my back out pretty good last night and have been having horrendous pain. I went to the chiropractor today and got an adjustment and a few hours later it was worse! (The doc warned me of that, he say's it's pretty normal for that to happen.) I finally had to break down and take some Tramadol... I took 2 at about 2:00, 2 more at 6:00, and I took 2 more at 9:30.
Avatar m tn I am about to go cold turkey on a oxycodone/vicodin dosing of ~150-160mg/day for 6 mo. (before that it was 100-120 mg of vicodin for 1yr and irregular usage for several years prior to that) I have no way to taper and have used Suboxone before as well, with varying success (i.e. obviously it hasn't worked as a final solution for quitting).
403399 tn?1201833095 I have posted before about trying to quit a pain pill habit that I have had for years. I went to the doctor and he prescribed me non-narcotic pain meds- Tramadol. Are these any better? I take 2-8 a day. They don't give me the same high as HC or Vicodin, but I have heard they are still addictive. Any advice?
464393 tn?1206755395 For the second or third doses, subsititute the tramadol for lose dose vicodin. Because tramadol effects the reuptake of nuerological chemicals, taking your first dose of opoids to be tramadol should help to reduce the depressionary effects of withdrawing from tramadol. Vicodin has many of the narcotic properties of tramadol and is a suitable substitute. 2. After 2 weeks of doing this, use only vicodin for all opoid doses.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Vicodin for hip pain for 6 months, now up to 15mg/3x/day. My doctor today switched me to Tramadol to wean off of the Vicodin over 3 weeks, then stay with the Tramadol. Is Tramadol just as addictive as the Vicodin? Will it help with any withdrawl symptoms I may have from going off of the Vicodin? I am terrified of withdrawl and have no idea if I will experience withdrawl symptoms. Any info on this subject would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn So i went to my Doc and told him what was going on and asked him if there is anything out there not addicting and he told me Tramadol is not. I was on Tramadol for 7-8 months and they did not do as well for pain as the Vicodin did also felt very detached from everything. Of course i ran out one day with the Tramadol and was now up to 6tabs. daily. I went in severe whithdrawl could not sleep stay warm keep warm and the shakes. Went to the clinic my Doc was out and talked to someone else.
Avatar f tn I have a herniated disc l5-s1, I have been on tramadol 2-50mg pills every 3-4 hrs due to the severe pain and vicodin as needed when therapy got really painful, the dr told me to take 2 pills but failed to change it in the computer now I'm cut off till 2 weeks from now . I'm in chronic pain and have about 25 vicodin left. I'm worried about the withdrawl symptoms from the tramadol.
Avatar f tn Norco is basically vicodin x's 4!!! It is very strong, I have also taken it after a ruptured cyst, and it helped!!!
Avatar f tn I have an old bottle of vicodin and it is helpful for my pain for me to occasionally alternate not taking the one tramadol but instead taking the one vicodin. I'm afraid to ask my doctor if they would be willing to additionally now prescribe me vicodin. What are your thoughts? I want to be able to alternate when and what medication I take.
Avatar f tn I had an unusual reaction to Tramadol, too. Although, Tramadol worked for a little while. I took it for only a few months, then it started affecting my speech and I was no longer able to take it. I wonder what the "experts" think people with chronic pain should do when these are the only pain meds that touch their pain? I realize that there is prescription pain killer abuse by both doctors and patients, but what about the people who aren't misusing these pain meds?
4753943 tn?1359934569 m stuck with Tramadol. I have not abused Tramadol like I did Vicodin, I have been taking it strictly for pain, twice daily. So total that's 200mg per day. I need to get off of it. I don't feel mentally addicted but definitely physically addicted. I sweat like crazy, feel dizzy and nauseous, and my body feels so sore, feverish and hot. So I'm stuck having to take it just to get rid of the feeling.
Avatar n tn I know of many people that are prescribed Vicodin (Hydrocodone) and Ultram (Tramadol) together with the Vicodin prescribed for breakthrough pain. However, as Sandee and Molly stated, you should call your doctor before taking these medications at the same time if they were not prescribed to you that way. The potency of the two medications may be too strong for you or may contradict any other medical conditions you may have. Feel Better.
Avatar f tn Tramadol and Vicodin are both pain relievers and ARE ment for the same thing. They just work differently. Mickey: if you are comfortable with the Tramadol then please stay with it. UIse it as prescribed (which I know you will) because of the possible side effects that can occure after stopping the medication. Dylan: Please stop worrying. Stress from worring can lead to more pain. The body is complexed and one thing can lead to another.
Avatar m tn Hi all, I had been on Xanax 2mg,Vicodin 5/500mg and Tramadol 50mg for 2 yers(Xanax and Tramadol) and 1 year(Vicodin)taking 8 to 10mg Xanax and 2 to 4 pills of tramadol and Vicodin daily. I am slowly weaning off the Xanax, I'm on day 53 and down to 6.75mg and quit cold turkey the tramadol and the vicodin 16 days ago.
Avatar f tn I think pain killers make us have no tolerance for any kind of pain so we take more to stop the pain. No surgery for me I can tolerate the pain now. W/D's were hell the first week but they got easier, and I am glad to not be tied to all the meds. Just my view.
Avatar f tn I am so thankful I read all the posts about tramadol, as my doctor gave me a script for back pain. She told me it was not in the narcotics class and is not addictive!! I decided not to take it and flushed it. I have been dealing with my pain through a chiropractor and just Ibprofen, when needed, The chiropractor has helped me very very much! If I had not read about the horrible things about that drug, I would have taken it, and been going through the hell everyone is talking about!
Avatar f tn I would need to take something else the other month. I was in Hawaii recently and I saw what coconuts look like growing on a palm tree. There is a tough green husk and underneath is the brown coconut we know, and inside of that is the white coconut "meat". Tramadol is the first medicine I've taken that gets all the way to the "meat" of my endometriosis pain.
6884999 tn?1385764179 thank you I had no idea tramadol was like this I am up to 4 to 5 a day vicodin 10 miligrams each and 2 tramadol so I thaught increase tramadol lower vicodin God am I glad I found this site.
Avatar f tn I take 100 mg. of Tramadol and 2000 mg. of Tylenol per day. I have Vicodin that was prescribed to me quite a while ago and I've only taken a few of them. Will it hurt to take one once in a while when the pain is really unbearable? I'm talking one pill, not multiple pills on a daily basis.
Avatar n tn i was in a car accident about 1 year ago my lower back has been hurting ever since then. i go to my family doctor and he gives me tramadol for pain i go back and tell him that it gives me nightmars and makes me depressed and ask if he can give me anything else and he sais no because if tramadol does that then vicoden and percocet will do it also but iv taken vicoden and percocet before.
Avatar m tn As some of you know I'm an addicted to Xanax and I'm working in my tapering off of this benzo, but I had also taked as prescribed, Vicodin 5/500mg and Tramadol 50mg for over a year. I don't think that I am addicted to these opiates psychologically, never took more than prescribed the Tramadol( twice daily) and the Vicodin when I had migraine-which happened to be 3 or 4 times a week, yes.
406036 tn?1216188561 I personally felt the addiction was worse than vicodin and tramadol...at least for me. They gave me tramadol because they wanted me off the vicodin, and I had no problem with that in terms of addiction. I was able to control the dose combard to the the Ultram. Ultram is the same as Tramadol except that you only take one pill with Ultram...and you have to wait for results. While you are severe pain, that is a long time to wait especially since vicodin and tramadol works faster.
