Everything the above poster says is accurate and additionally the maximum daily dosage is 400mg. If you are currently at 600mg you need to taper down a little. You want to do this gradually, maybe 50-25 mgs at a time, maintaining each drop in dosage for awhile before decreasing further.

How do I request higher pain pill dosage from my pain clinic doctor. I have used oxycontin, and oxycodone for beak-through pain, over 10years but now it is less helpful without an additional pill for the day. I have recently been able to sleep less, causing some need because am awake more. I don't want to sound like 'drug-seeker'. in fact would rather not go up on dosage at all.

I am struggling with Tramadol myself, I was given it whilst in hospital with severe Endomitriosis just over a month ago, I was taking 400mg per day which I believe is the maximum dosage. I was discharged with 100 50mg tablets, so stayed on the maximum dose as no one told me otherwise.
When I was close to running out got a repeat prescription from my doctor who mumbled something about coming off them under medical supervision then he went on holiday for three weeks.
The blocking effect can be overcome by titrating conventional meds but it is not an exact science and really needs to be done under medical supervision. Tramadol is not the drug to be doing this with. It has a maximum daily limit and i think you would eat that up in no time and still feel nothing. Dont try this yourself at home. The results could be disaterous.
I know this post maybe treading a fine line concerning medhelp guidelines so i apologise in advance if it is offensive to anyone.

15-20 Tramadol per day is WAY too much; the maximum dosage per day is 400 mg, or eight 50 mg pills. You’re taking more than double that. As stated above, the seizure threshold with Tramadol is very small, as it contains an antidepressant. If you continue, I fear you will continue to have seizures...which can be fatal on their own or if, God forbid, you were to have one while driving.
when the doctor said 200 was the maximum he accepted that. He does seem to be doing well, but I am worried. what chance is there of his ever getting off of it, or at least onto a lower dose?
I have had several back surgeries and had gotten addicted to pain medication was at my sergion recently for pain and I asked for non- narcotic he said have we evr tried tramadol, I said no but did you look at the other meds I am taking. I currently take toredal and also prozac for bipolar diesease.
I take tramadol and the bottle is 90 tabs, it says on bottle take 1-2 every 4-6 hours no more than 8 tabs per day. I call fro a refill on the 15th day. Nurse calls me and says its a 30 day supply and she will ask the doctor. I am now on day 19 and have none and I have only recived calls back when I have called from nurses asking me why I am taking MORE THAN PRESCRIBED? Last time I checked if I take 6 per day times 15 days = 90 tabs. MAX of 8 PER DAY.
Does anyone know about these? It's the extended release version of tramadol but I'm wondering if anyone knows anything else? I was prescribed it in Canada on vacation by a doctor in my mother in laws clinic. I am using it until next Friday when I'm on a long weekend and am going to stop taking it and going med free!

I tend to give ppl the benefit of the doubt for a number of reasons. The maximum dosage of Tramadol is 400mg daily which would mean 80 tablets in 10 days. I am surprised by the short time for a refill and would be even more surprised if a pharmacy would refill it in ten days. Could you have made an error when you read the label on the bottle? And why are you reading your roommates prescriptions bottles? Has he done something else that would make you suspicious?
Tramadol is known to lower the seizure treshold and that risk goes up with increased dosage. The maximum pharmaceutical dose of tramadol is eight 50 mg tablets per day or two 50 mg tablets every 4 to 6 hours.
How long has she been taking tramadol? I would suggest that you or your wife contact the prescribing physician of the tramadol and let him/her explain the situation to the physicians at the ER.
This is when the written instructions come into play to let the patient know what is the safe maximum dosage that can be taken. In the case of Tramadol, it is 8 pills per day. I am tapering off of Tramadol (350mg per day) and was wondering if I "delay" my dosage as long as possible will it cause any issues? I am cutting down by 1 pill per week as on my other post, but if I delay my morning 50mg pill from 7am to 10am (if tolerable) will this help me get off this devil drug faster? (I am currently on 350mg per day and have been taking for 6 weeks total) In other words..... the less I take during the day as tolerated, the quicker I get off of it?
However, it is common practice to increase medication dose to help control blood sugar (the maximum dose of metformin is about 2500 mg/day, in split doses). Some people do take their medication before eating. Please discuss changes in medication dosing with your md.
You may also find that restricting carbs (eat more fat, non-starchy vegetables instead to replace the calories) may help in reducing your blood sugar.
I am probably one of the longest-running tramadol users (12 years non-stop at the maximum prescribed dose). I was first given it by my rheumatologist way back when it just came out, which I think was like 1997? A few years in, I knew there was a problem, because I would run out of it and then be in agony!
I tried to stop on my own, and I actually got from the maximum dose down to about a fourth of the max dose. But I needed help after that.
If you stop use of the Tylenol PM, it may take up to 2-4 weeks for you to adjust to falling asleep without the medication, but there should be no other problems. The current recommended maximum daily dosage of acetaminophen, commonly known as Tylenol, is 4000mg (4 grams) in a 24 hour period and one tablet of Tylenol PM contains 500mg of Acetaminophen and 25mg of Diphenhydramine. Therefore, if you take 2 tablets (1000mg or 1 gram) each night you are not exceeding the maximum daily dosage.
