Avatar f tn Determining a dosage of tramadol for dogs is an exercise in futility. As with people, if the dog has a history of seizures it is important to let your vet know this, and they will likely tell you about alternatives. While the dosage amounts vary from dog to dog, the tramadol dosage for dogs can be put into effect by using the dog’s weight as the determinant. The usual range is .5 - 1.8mg per pound.
Avatar f tn http://www.1800petmeds.com/Tramadol-prod11064.html I personally don't think it worth taking so it probably would be more desired by a pet. No really it is a pain reliever for temporary relief of back pain sprains bruises etc.. The best advise I can give is take OC (over the counter) pain relievers, they have a better chance of getting rid of your temporary pain, and no addiction. Go for the fastest, safest pain relief.
Avatar m tn Are there painkillers for dogs that are safe? Tramadol caused my 11 year old chow chow Emily to have seizures after two days 4 pills and the Rimadyl side effects I just read here are equally as bad. Both were give to her by her vet of six years. If anyone has any ideas please contact me at ***@****. Thank you.
442658 tn?1563386491 That's funny you say that because I was walking my two dogs the other day and ran into my neighbor who said her rotty was on tramadol. I didn't know they put dogs on tramadol either and I thought it was strange as well!
535089 tn?1400673519 I am really puzzled. Our Dog (Casper) has Arthritis in his front legs and has been in pain for a while now. Last month I took him to the vet for his Senior Blood Panel work-up and found out that he has Arhtritis and Hypothyroid Disease. Since his visit, he has been medicated with the Thyroid meds and Rimadyl (anti-iflammatory).
Avatar f tn Tramadol is a nightmare that you should avoid at all costs! It's a drug that is commonly prescribed to old dogs and I witnessed a neighbor get hooked on his dogs medication. His dog died in excruciating pain while he was high on the dogs Tramadols. It's a horribly addictive drug and getting off of it is worse than Vicodin or Oxys. Please, leave it alone.
Avatar n tn During the winter time he seems to be in more pain than usual. Should I also be giving him tramadol? What exactly is the difference between the two medications?
Avatar f tn For sure. Cats are at least 10 times smaller than a SMALL adult human female. What is given to us is too much for such a small animal. For example: The amount of Zyrtec I was told to give to Akira is only 1/4 of the adult human dosage. This is much smaller than the children's dosage, which is 1/2 of the adult human dosage. I would never ever give medications to Akira without her first seeing her doctor. I do know that no one should ever give Tylenol to their pets.
Avatar n tn I know the amount startled me too but in dogs, thhey go by weight of the dog, different than people. Our dog had that hip displshia at 5yrs old and had bad joints since the operation. Our vet said safe for dogs. People, no. 8 is too much.
Avatar f tn I lost one of my dogs to bone cancer last year - My vet prescribed tramadol. It worked great for her. I'm not sure what kind of knucklehead would prescribe deramax for cancer ... especially bone cancer !
Avatar n tn When you say "LegS" makes me think of a spinal cord problem (that would affect both back legs!) i.e... Disc, instability or tumor. Could be "body-wide" arthritis - very common in older large breed dogs. I would not waste time or money on Acupuncture (few do it right and has little actual clinical effects). Stem Cell therapy is expensive and has only a small percentage of effectiveness. Your dog is not a good candidate.
787406 tn?1339203183 My aussie started hiding today, which is what my boxer did the day he died,he is in so much pain that he groans all day,I tried Tramadol last night but had no effect on the pain. Can dogs take morphine when they have kidney failure?
Avatar f tn She was also on Carprofen and Tramadol for arthritis and Denamarin (1 pill daily). Dr took her off Tramadol as her counts went up to alp 588 & alt 1000. She weighs 80lbs. Could I give her both the Denamarin and super milk thistle pills (maybe 1) since by weight she should be on 2 pills. Dr's don't seem to like going natural as it cuts into their profits.
Avatar n tn my 103lb german sheperd/rotweiler accidentially got 200 mg of tramadol.
Avatar f tn I'm probably missing something, but I can't see why the source matters. She's getting it somehow. Could be the vet's office--I know dogs with arthritis are given Tramadol. I sometimes ponder this and worry about what kind of hell they may go through without having words to say. What if their owners suddenly decide to switch them to doggy Motrin, thinking the two drugs are similar?
Avatar f tn Hey there, I'm hoping someone can give me a hand with this. Last week, my 8 year old Siberian Husky went down with acute pancreatitis, which was probably triggered by gorging on dog food. (he got into the canister of food) He came home on Thursday, and on Friday appeared to be on track, but my dog sitter had trouble administering his antibiotic and pain meds. By the time I got home on Sunday he was lethargic and totally off his food.
Avatar f tn She also told me if I was to take ANY tramadol with this new drug I WOULD have a seizure. So, no more tramadol ever. Thanks.
Avatar m tn my dog has been diagnosed with horners syndrome his droopy eye has corrected it self but he has lost muscle tone on the top of his head on one side now it seems to be working its way done his face to his jaw area, is he going to be in a lot of pain as this progresses and is there anything at all that I can do for him? He is also on Metacam for arthritis and we are going to put him on something called Tramadol I believe that is for pain. Will he also continue to be able to eat?
Avatar m tn Tramidol is the generic form of a human medication called Ultram. Tramidol is not recommended to be given in dogs with a history of kidney disease, liver disease, seizure disorders and lung problems. Tramidol side effects may include sedation, anxiety, bloating and gas, constipation, convulsive movements, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, hallucinations, indigestion, itching, nausea, nervousness, tremors, vomiting and weakness.
Avatar n tn dogs can sense when their owners are distressed. i loved reading this post, my dogs are my family and i love them. reading this made me smile.
1388999 tn?1370042814 While pain in dogs can be treated with narcotics, it's not often that it's used for chronic pain situations outside an inpatient setting that can be closely monitored. I suspect part of the reason is diversion: too many people take the meds meant for their dogs. There are several NSAIDS to try that are safe for dogs. Deramaxx is a cox-II inhibitor like human Celebrex that worked the best for my dogs with osteoarthritis and one with hip dysplasia.
Avatar n tn t know the life expectancy of either dog discussed in this thread, but I think any dog over 12 year old is, well old. Small dogs typically live longer than large dogs, I understand, still 15 is old. Loss of muscle control is typical of the failing of the body on older dogs, I believe. A vet may have something to help for a while, but sadly dogs don't live as long as we all wish they could.
Avatar m tn What you describe is not a side effect of gabapentin. They contraindicate its use in dogs that have kidney deficits, but the only side effects are vomiting, depression, excessive sleepiness and loss of balance. None of the other medications should cause otic issues either, especially since he's not new to taking them. It sounds like your dog has possibly developed otitis externa on top of whatever he's taking the gabapentin and other medications for.
Avatar n tn Our dogs love UBAvet and maybe are used to it. The glucosamine is liquid and it helped, especially the Akita. Other ingredients might have made your dog sick and they NEVER explain what the side-effects of all the incredients can be. Medicam can be difficult on the stomach so dogs have to eat before they take it. There are dog foods available that are easy to digest and you probably know that homemade chicken and rice are digestable easily for dogs. We've used it on ours.
Avatar f tn Hi TP and welcome. I also have fibro and was in pain mgmt for years to deal with the pain. While I don't have specific experience with Tramadol you are correct in that it is every bit as bad as detoxing off opiates. How old are you and when your doctor says you will have to be in pain mgmt do you really feel he/she will manage your meds responsibly?
1550149 tn?1340000730 Tramadol is an opioid analgesic which is used in treatment of moderate to acute pain. It is a narcotic drug in nature that works on our central nervous system. Though invented much earlier, it was developed in the late 1970’s by a pharmaceutical company named Grunenthal gmbH. It is mainly used in treatment of restless leg syndrome and fibromyalgia in human beings. Besides, it has some other veterinary usage for rabbits, cows, dogs etc. and also in transportation of fish.
Avatar f tn Gday is there anyone in Australia on these forums having trouble with tramadol...I am in Queensland..Thanks Anyone can join in any help is great thanks everbody.......
Avatar f tn I love Great Pyrenese and also have one - a female "Sky" that is now about 8 months old and 80 lbs and the sweetest dog. I like your dog's name "Rune" - sounds magical. Well the Tramadol didn't work very well on it's own but with the Fioricet, it does better with the two. In fact I don't know why the doctor prescribed Tramadol in the first place, because by itself, it just didn't do too much. I guess he didn't realize the degree of pain I was in.
Avatar f tn Sorry to be so abrupt but ibuprofen, the active ingredient in motrin, is EXTREMELY toxic to dogs! Even a small dose can lead to events that will kill him. It's best to check with your vet first on dosing, but he CAN have human aspirin as long as it's either buffered or enteric coated, like Ascriptin. But don't give him any other type of human OTC pain reliever because they are just not formulated for dogs.
