Avatar n tn Hello~I am 53 years old I have been diagnosed with gout even though a blood test for uric acid came out negative. I have had terrible inflammation in my metatarsal phalangeal joint and the smaller joint closer to the tip of my big toe. I have had a cortisone shot in each. I don't drink, eat shellfish and have a mostly plant based diet. I do have hypertension however and am terrified that maybe I have hurt my kidneys because I take the lowest dose of hypertension medicine.
Avatar m tn I've had GOUT for 7 yrs with attacks every 6 months until last year. Started with 100mg allopurnol last summer. All was quite. Dec had a serious attack and after 1-month of trying Indomethecine then Prednisone I received a cortozone shot and allopurnol was increased to 400mg. Uric acid is now down to 4.6 from a high of 6.9 in Dec.
107366 tn?1305680375 I have had episodes of gout for more than 10 years now. It wasn't too bad up until about three years ago when I started chemotherapy for cancer. I also have Crohn's disease, and believe it and the gout mean I definitely have issues with auto-immune disorders. In the past 6 months, my Allopurinol has been upped to 300 mg, then to 450 mg per day. I also follow a low purine diet most of the time, but I admit, sometimes I gotta have a steak!

Avatar n tn tall, and about 250 pounds (in process of losing weight). He had a gout attack in September on his knee, and it was very painful for him. He went to his doctor and was diagnosed with gout. Since then, he only had one gout-like attack (not painful at all) on the toe next to his big one, and only lasted a couple of hours. He isn't complaining about pain or anything, thankfully.. but I am still worried about gout in general.

Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with gout and although I do have pain in my big toe (mainly left, but also some in right), I'm having more trouble with my fingers - they are where the pain is worst and where I've got some tophi. How common/uncommon is it to have gout more in the fingers than the toe? I know it can affect other joints other than teh big toe, but just not sure how common it is and if it makes it any more difficutl to treat?
Avatar n tn I used to get a 2-3 wk debilitating gout attack 2-3 times a year for 10 years, either in the heel, top of foot, and under knee cap. I had an aspiration which showed the crystals to confirm the diagnosis. But now I am in pretty good shape - it has been only one short lived attack in 3 years. Knock on wood! My solution has been one tiny .6mg colchicine every night and a big glass of water. I also stay away from beer but have a glass of wine a couple times a week - no problem.
Avatar m tn I have reoccurance of Gout every time I eat liver, liverwurst, cabage or spinach. I personally do not know about other drugs.

Avatar f tn My friend has had gout for five or six years with only minor 'episodes'. Recently he had a ruptured peroneal tendon and had surgery to repair that. When the surgeon did the surgery he said that it looked like 'cottage cheese' and that the gout had most likely weakened the tendon and caused the rupture. Has anyone had experience with this? Any ideas on how to help control the gout?
Avatar f tn Just wanted to know if losartan(Cozaar) is the best option for an alcoholic with gout and high blood pressure? Of course, the best scenario would be to completely delete alcohol out of the equation, but it is not an option at this time for the person involved.
Avatar f tn asymptomatic hyperuricemia, acute gout, interval or intercritical gout, and chronic tophaceous gout. Your doctor has recommended lifestyle modifications to prevent disease progression.
107366 tn?1305680375 I wonder if Total Gout Relief will work for my brother. He has been diagnosed with gout for the past 3 years. He has tried everything, but nothing has worked for him. If any of you have had any experience with the system, please leave a comment. Thanks!
Avatar f tn My father has gout and it gets really bad sometimes. Is gout heritable? Could my pain be caused by gout instead of a stress injury?
Avatar f tn m really really struggling here to get an answer for over a year and dealing with this for over a year.
712802 tn?1274645485 For most people, gout pain usually shows up first in the joints of the big toe. However, as gout progresses, and more and more uric acid builds in the system, it has to find other joints where it can go. This means you might get gout pain in other places that can cause even more pain than that which you might feel when it is in your toe.One of the first things many do when they have gout and hip joint pain is take NSAIDS.
Avatar n tn I am extremely worried right now, because I just did a Google search and found that a study has shown that people with gout have an increased risk for cancer. Is this true? Can high uric acid levels really cause cancer? I am so worried about this. His doctor never mentioned this to him. My dad has just started to be pretty active, and he doesn't have any significant symptoms that bother him. I just don't want this condition to cause something more serious like cancer.
Avatar n tn Your GP can check your uric acid levels and usually tell pretty quickly if it is gout or not. As for the criteria...I am female, and got my first gout attack at age 27. So much for the criteria...
