Hello Andrew, I'm sure you have probably received replies to your posting by now, but I thought I should let you know about my experience with Ultram (tramadol). I was taking Ultram for about 6 months, right after its introduction, for lower back pain from 2 spinal surgeries. During this time, I was also suffering from depression. I was prescribed elevil (tricyclic antidepressant) along with Ultram. These two meds didn't mix!
I have been taking tramadol off and on for yrs. I have been trying to get off it for the last 3 yrs and cant take the withdrawall for more than a week or so. Rehab is not an option for me, I have children and live in a small town. Nobody knows I have this problem, other than my husband. I have back pain and started taking tramadol because it suposedly wasnt addictive!!! How do I get off this medicine and still function? Is there a way to get help without rehab?
yes they ALL have side effects on us and cats as well....the safest with the least side effects for pain are the following(for cats). please never use NSAID's. -bupronorphine(buprenex) -butorphanel(torbutrol) -and lastly tramadol(ultram) good luck to you and kitty, I hope you can find him some relief...at this late stage of his life and with so many health problems you need to give him the best quality for his time remaining...
I too am coming off tramadol. Taken for years for spinal injury after surgery. NOT told about dependance .However ran out of pills after i had been in hospital to have pacemaker fitted. They forgot to give me all my medication back when discharged.Could not get any for 4 days.I wasnt bothered at that point. However i then got the most awful withdrawal symptoms what a nightmare i almost wanted to die! I have got down to 1x50mg at night and 1x 50mg morning.Still feel a bit edgy though.
I've read on holistic info sites that BUPRENORPHINE is the best and SAFEST pain med for cats....I know thats the one my Vet uses too. Is this for long term use?
I do think that you will be amazed at what getting tramadol out of your system will do for your pain level. I hope it is the same for you as it was and is for me.
It lasted for 15 minutes, (A LONG 15 minutes; a tramadol extended 15 minutes ... 15 minutes of horror!) .... It vanished when I moved and I was pretty alert. It's so odd. I think it's the nature of this beastie. It's a faux-opiate, mixed with a antidepressant, so crazy unpredictable. Things I did yesterday? I forgot to take some of my vitamins? I went back to work on a long day after not having a "real weekend." Anxiety is being thrown in because I beat bronchitis sort of.
Okay, I am up early for WORK today. Took EP's suggestion to allow extra "coffee" time before facing my job, so what the heck, I may as well rant while I drink my java. I slept really well last night - Yay. If you are in early withdrawal - there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Those sleepless nights and phantom pins and needles in the limbs will pass. Don't give up or you will miss the miracle. THAT miracle finds me this morning WITHOUT ANY pain in my surgical site...
I simply cannot fall asleep early enough and I can't lay in bed half asleep, half awake because my brain and the bad drug thoughts come back and shell me. Badly. for me Suicidal Ideation was NON stop when I used tramadol. I think it took a few months to show up, after I started using it. But no doctor ever caught it; so I got diagnosed with a panic disorder and put on klonopin. So I am not sure if the panic diagnosis is real or not. Again.
Day 34; tramadol Cold Turkey Withdrawal Dear Friends; Well it's official I now have Bronchitis. I have to rest and prevent it from going into pneumonia. So no work this week. Which means no income. Which means money going out, no money coming in. A couple nights ago I stood and PRAYED ... "Just show me and send me what I need." So apparently HP needs me to rest, and not work and whatever the effects of that; I am still clean! I am still NOT on tramadol! I said it before.
Day 33 tramadol Cold Turkey Withdrawal; Immune System Breakdown ... I guess when the cat is away, the mice they will play. Last night I was alone in the house and steadily starting to believe I had a cold in the nose starting. Got rapidly worse. Searched for the Z-Pac, found the Z-Pac. Took the first dose. Woke up this morning thinking OMG I am so tired. But I didn't feel the "I feel like crawling in a hole and dying" thing. Progress!!
