Avatar f tn ve read on holistic info sites that BUPRENORPHINE is the best and SAFEST pain med for cats....I know thats the one my Vet uses too. Is this for long term use?

Avatar m tn Hey guys, just wondering if any of you have tried using 5-HTP supplements to help for mood. It is a precursor to Seratonin and I have just started today. I took one any I am supposed to increase my intake every 3-5 days by one pill until I get to taking 4 pills a day (twice a day) Just wondering if this or any other mood supplements helped for the mental part of clean. Thanks!!
Avatar n tn yes they ALL have side effects on us and cats as well....the safest with the least side effects for pain are the following(for cats). please never use NSAID's. -bupronorphine(buprenex) -butorphanel(torbutrol) -and lastly tramadol(ultram) good luck to you and kitty, I hope you can find him some relief...at this late stage of his life and with so many health problems you need to give him the best quality for his time remaining...
535089 tn?1400673519 Little advice tramadol in humans is very addictive. That's how my addiction started with pain meds so please do not say it's not addictive. Also live in my shoes as an addict then tell me addiction is better than pain. Yes for dogs it's great. My dachshund had been taking it for a yr now and has saved her. But please don't give uneducated advice on things you really don't know about.
Avatar f tn We just had all 3 of our cats get upper respiratory inf.s and one ended up w/pneumonia-if you notice any kits coughing-take them to vet IMMEDIATELY!! i didn't know coughing is notnormal for cats-i thought he just had phlegm running down the back of his throat and we almost lost him. that said-mine all had stuffy noses too and i tried everything: putting vicks on their chins so the vapors would drift to the nost but not be where it could be eaten-NOT appreciated.
Avatar f tn The doctor gave me Tramadol for my endometriosis pain. I have a full week of almost intolerable pain every monthl. Tramadol is one of the few drugs I can tolerate with regards to nausea (Vicodin et al seem to just make me puke immediately), and it does actually manage to relieve my pain fully or at least 80-90% (when I mix it with Aleve). The problem is this. I have to admit that I enjoy the Tramadol. It makes me feel good. Of course it does -- it makes everyone feel good.
Avatar m tn I've been having back pain recently which stems from something that I have had since I was a kid, although it seems to be getting worse as I get older. What will happen is that the pain will start in my back then move down my legs. Sometimes it hurts so bad that I can hardly walk. I've been to the doctors many times, but they can never pinpoint what is causing it. Anyway, the doctor recently prescribed Tramadol for the pain.
2117936 tn?1334693230 hello and welcome. did the doctor give you a taper plan? you cant stop tramadol cold turkey.it can cause seizures. some of the symptoms of withdrawal can be,anxiety, sweating insomnia, nausea, shakiness, diarrhea, brain zaps.
Avatar m tn ve been on it for much of your life so for me Tramadol helps with the little things while maintaining less abuse potential. Everyone is different and abstinence is not always the goal ahead of self care assisted by a drug similar to codeine v full agonist. Plus Tramadol assists to deal with the withdrawal and rehab elements using a far less load than the others for me.
Avatar m tn Have you tried to give up tramadol and had problems with the withdrawal or are you yet to try? How long have you been using tramadol for? I just tried giving it up for the first time yesterday. I took my last pill at 1 am on December 31st and had caved in 19 hours later.... I am thinking I need to taper but I just want to get this over and done with as soon as possible. We can get through this together!!!
Avatar f tn Hi all- Day 28 for me!! I feel OK. Maybe getting a cold or maybe allergic to the two cats I decided to get while on my evil pills thinking I was saving the world :( ... I am still in a fog don't get me wrong it is slowly dissapating but none the less there. The good news is that my blood work came back and my liver seems good. Yaya! Amazing how your body will play tricks on you and pain that you never had creeps up and trys to trick you into taking a pill.
Avatar f tn I was successfully addicted to tramadol for many years !!!! As IBK said tell us more tramadol can be just as addicting as other opiates. doctors are big on saying its not addictive but many of us found out the very hard way that was wrong ....
Avatar m tn t think the Tram Warriors on MedHelp that we hear from are those that were put on a short term, 5 day, controlled step down script for Tramadol. The potential for addictiion to Trams after being addicted to another opiate is VERY REAL. And we need to KNOW all we can on our new road to recovery....be aware of pitfalls and misnomers out there. Your situation seems to be different than most I've read on here. The use of this 5 day plan is NOT what many others on here are even talking about.
Avatar m tn Do not substitute Tramadol for hydros. Tramadol is extremely addictive and some here have said they are more difficult to withdrawal from than some other drugs. You can find many threads about the Tram withdrawals. I would just stay the course the way you are now. It will be difficult for awhile, but SO WORTH IT!!! Good luck and you are in my prayers!!!!
Avatar f tn (10-15 a day). I have a script for 15-50mg tramadol. Should I use the tramadol to help ease the lortab comedown? Will it even help? Or should I go cold turkey? I've read other posts about tramadol, and don't know which way to go. I do know I want my life back, and I can't afford the down time of the painful withdrawls I get. Experienced advice would be greatly helpful.
Avatar f tn Tramadol works like an opiate pain pill. DO NOT take Tramadol as the withdrawal is very bad when you try to stop even after using it for a short time. With Subutex I think you are suppose to slowly reduce the amount you take until you can stop. There is no easy way out by replacing one pill with another, it just continues your addiction. NO Tramadol, don't do it even once. Do you have a Doctor that can help?
740516 tn?1360942486 Typical canned tuna for humans has too much sodium for cats. Lots of cats enjoy treats of cooked chicken and turkey, but I would avoid the processed "lunch meat" variety in quantity because of the salt and other additives. Onions are toxic to cats, but I don't believe there is harm in other vegetables and fruits if your cat likes them.
