org/wiki/Tramadol#Uses It has been suggested that tramadol could be effective for alleviating symptoms of depression, anxiety, and phobias[11] because of its action on the noradrenergic and serotonergic systems, such as its "atypical" opioid activity.[12] However, health professionals have not endorsed its use for these disorders,[13][14] claiming it may be used as a unique treatment (only when other treatments failed), and must be used under the control of a psychiatrist.
Now I'm prescribed Tramadol, Clonidine, Mirtazapine, and Lorazepam. I doing very good and have no depression and much less anxiety. (Turns out Lorazepam actually is more effective on me than Klonopin, weird). But has anyone one else had a similar experience? (I understand people have other views/opinions on the use of Tramadol for depression, but please don't post just to tell me I shouldn't be on it.). I am just really interested to see if anyone else out there has a similar story.
Hello and welcome. How much were you taking? Did you do a taper? Going Cold turkey from tramadol can cause seizures. Stay hydrated, get in some exercise.keep yourself as active as possible. Two weeks is still early in recovery.hard to say some people do better than others .just take it as it comes. One day at a time. Think positive it definitely helps. The anxiety, depression and lack of sleep are all part of the detox.
Ask your physician to prescribe you some Neurontin (gabapentin) for general malaise, anxiety and muscle cramps, Requip for the restless leg syndrome and possibly something like Seroquel low dose for the insomnia. The reason for this longer depression and insomnia symptoms is because Tramadol, besides affecting the opioid receptors, has an effect on the serotonin receptors in the central nervous system.

why do doctors prescribe tramadol so long term? do they just wait for you to come in and say hey im hooked and cant function without this stuff. five years ive been on tramadol which i think is a wonder drug. it takes care of my pain, my anxiety and my depression the problem is i cant get enough. i get 180 50mg a month but take about 14 pills a day so i run out every month and i know thats my fault. i have asked dr.
medicine for depression or anxiety; medicine for mental illness (such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia); or street drugs. Seizures have occurred in some people taking tramadol.
please talk to your doctor and get a taper plan. tapering is the only safe way to get off tramadol. tramadol withdrawal has a withdrawal symptom that can cause brain zaps. this can be quite uncomfortable. you can do this with the help of your doctor.
I was addicted to lorab's been taking them for over 10 years and today is day 5, for me, I went to my Dr last week and asked him for something non narcotic and he prescribed me Tramadol, so now I am confused, I did not know people could get addicted to these, now I am rethinking even taking it, Good luck on your recovery Renee
Hi. I have been taking 200mg of tramadol everyday for a year for back pain, and I was wondering is this a lot? And how bad will the withdrawal be on this dosage? Thanks for ur time!!
(150 mg twice a day- now at 150 mg once day) and I also take Xanax as needed for my anxiety/panic attack. (I was going through many financial problems after my divorce and had 3 surgery within 18 months. So my life had made a drastic change, so just getting back into normalcy. If anyone can valid the side of effects of Tramadol (does it cause addiction, weight lose, is it good for chronic pain, cause dizziness or anything else. I would appreciate Any and ALL feedback. Thank you!
You may be more likely to have a seizure while taking tramadol if you have a history of seizures or head injury, a metabolic disorder, or if you are taking certain medicines such as antidepressants, muscle relaxers, or medicine for nausea and vomiting. Take tramadol exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take it in larger doses or for longer than recommended by your doctor. Do not take more than 300 milligrams of tramadol in one day.
What's the deal with tramadol? Been using it for years. Built up a tolerance for it and take twice as much as I used to for the same pain relief. It does not get me high like opiates so it is safe right?
It started with widespread joint and muscle pain then added to that depression and anxiety and negativity has crept in and more recently over the past 6 months my eyes have become severely painful and inflamed and I have been diagnosed with a cataract. I always did suffer with Blepharitis on occasions but now I have it 24-7. And so I have come to the conclusion after doing a bit of internet research that I must I coulsurely be having bad side effects to this drug.

recommended Valerian Root (for anxiety and sleep) and melatonin tabs for sleep, both available over the counter. I've got some and they DO seem to help a lot.
I have enphysema and on advair, can tramadol be taken for severe leg pain and cramps,
I am in Nz and was given tramadol in hospital after a spinal fusion surgery. I was taking 100 mg 4 times a day and was given an RX for more aupon discharge. I do not have an addictive personality and do not like to take meds but after surgery I needed something to get me through the long recuperation. I have reduced my dose of tramaol to 50-100mg a day and still feel that it is difficult to reduce it further.
Hi again Lynn, it sounds as though you have been off for a few days, if so, you are doing great, although I know it doesn't feel like it. A lot of us have been horrified when we learned the true nature of this lousy substance. If the Soma & melatonin combo is working for sleep, I would stick with those for a week or so. Melatonin can safely be taken indefinitely & is actually a potent antioxidant so is a valuable part of any detox regime.
My husband was precribed tramadol and became addicted. His personality changed and became very isolated and angry all the time.Is this typical. We separated 3 weeks ago and the man I once loved just seems lost forever. Please let me know the effects on personality.
I have been on Tramadol for about 2 yrs. At first it worked for my pain and made me feel very good and ontop of the world. After awhile I had to keep taking more and more until I was abusing it just to be pain free. It was a never ending cycle running out starting to go through withdrawls and then getting back. Well today is my ninth day off of it and I am in pure agony!!! I do not know what to do. I do not want to go back to it but, I can not live like this. How long do the withdrawls last?
Many have been taking Tramadol for their Resistant Severe depression for over two years and if prescribed and taken responsibly it is no doubt 100% effective in almost every case no matter how cronic and severe the patients level of depression is. It is NOT a conventional Opiate, but rather a synthetic form of very mild Opiate that mildly binds to opiate receptors in the brain.
As for withdrawls, xanax helps and so does clonodine. xanax for anxiety and skin crawling and clonodine for blood pressure and jitters. I can tell you that days 1-4 will be the absolute worst. just focus on getting through each day. I will talk to you anytime you need. email or post me and i will be looking out for you.
Day 4 was a little better, I actually slept some surprisingly since I havent slept more than 4 hours a night since. So now its day 6 and while my stomach is def better, and the anxiety isnt so bad but wow, the depression and insomnia still haunt me. I take nyquil, melatonin, and trazadone all at the same time and Istill dont sleep. And the depression is really brutal. Any idea on when the brain starts functioning again?
Took Tramadol for 7 yrs. Got up to 15-20 pills a day. Recently went thru detox in May an now on day 53 pill free. Was put on Zoloft 50mg. an Clonapine for anxiety occasionally. Anyone dealing with Tramadol withdrawl. I mean mental? An how are you dealing with it? I see a psychologist an attend NA when I can. Excercise when I can. But some days good others bad. Any feed back would help. Thanks.
When I started on Tramadol it really helped my pain, my mood and increased my energy. During the last 6 months, the Tramadol stopped working for me, and since I couldn't increase the dose I needed to add another pain med. So now I'm taking a low dose of morphine as needed. (I hate morphine) Since deciding to stop the Tramadol, I started taking Effexor to help with the depression, but it takes 6 weeks to get the full effect. I think it's helping, but my mood is pretty flat.
I've been using Tramadol now for a couple years, and my regular dosage is around 500mg - 800mg daily. That's 10 - 16 pills daily, vastly exceeding the maximum recommended dosage. I am currently detoxing CT (thanks to all those in the other threads with information and recommendations on how to undergo this process), and my last dose was about two and a half days ago.
I just joined here and glad I did. My wife I hope has escaped a nightmare by stopping Tramadol. She's getting severe neck & back pain caring for me - I have Syingomyelia. She felt unwell after her first dose of them & said 'No more'. I'm relieved she did, & that I read experiences on here.
today im feeling absolutely down in the dumps i was in hospital in august with chest pain and i was diagonsed with infection of my pluera i had soreness of my chest and breasts and are tender to the touch they sent me home with antbiotic and 2 days later i felt really bad and went back to a different hospital and they kept me in for 4 days but told me that there was no sign of infection . im totally confused by this as they are telling me its probably all stress related.
However, there are some good suggestions and a lot of support on that page, so you should check it out since you plan on detoxing off of Tramadol (Tramadol and Ultracet and pretty much the same drug) Let me know if you have any questions, I am here to help.
