Avatar f tn Determining a dosage of tramadol for dogs is an exercise in futility. As with people, if the dog has a history of seizures it is important to let your vet know this, and they will likely tell you about alternatives. While the dosage amounts vary from dog to dog, the tramadol dosage for dogs can be put into effect by using the dog’s weight as the determinant. The usual range is .5 - 1.8mg per pound.
Avatar f tn For sure. Cats are at least 10 times smaller than a SMALL adult human female. What is given to us is too much for such a small animal. For example: The amount of Zyrtec I was told to give to Akira is only 1/4 of the adult human dosage. This is much smaller than the children's dosage, which is 1/2 of the adult human dosage. I would never ever give medications to Akira without her first seeing her doctor. I do know that no one should ever give Tylenol to their pets.
Avatar n tn The dose is obviously different for different sizes (Based on poundage of dog).....What size is your dog? Tramadol ONLY comes in 50mg. tablets, but dosage is different depending on size.....
9734245 tn?1407160118 Hey chickie, hope your doing awesome. Ya I just wanted to say, I had one of my dogs at the vet this week for teeth issues and I told him no Tramadol, he said it doesn't do the same thing to animals. .???? How th does he know that?....just FYI. Have a great day..
Avatar f tn http://www.1800petmeds.com/Tramadol-prod11064.html I personally don't think it worth taking so it probably would be more desired by a pet. No really it is a pain reliever for temporary relief of back pain sprains bruises etc.. The best advise I can give is take OC (over the counter) pain relievers, they have a better chance of getting rid of your temporary pain, and no addiction. Go for the fastest, safest pain relief.
Avatar f tn Hi TP and welcome. I also have fibro and was in pain mgmt for years to deal with the pain. While I don't have specific experience with Tramadol you are correct in that it is every bit as bad as detoxing off opiates. How old are you and when your doctor says you will have to be in pain mgmt do you really feel he/she will manage your meds responsibly?
Avatar f tn I lost one of my dogs to bone cancer last year - My vet prescribed tramadol. It worked great for her. I'm not sure what kind of knucklehead would prescribe deramax for cancer ... especially bone cancer !
Avatar m tn Are there painkillers for dogs that are safe? Tramadol caused my 11 year old chow chow Emily to have seizures after two days 4 pills and the Rimadyl side effects I just read here are equally as bad. Both were give to her by her vet of six years. If anyone has any ideas please contact me at ***@****. Thank you.
442658 tn?1563386491 That's funny you say that because I was walking my two dogs the other day and ran into my neighbor who said her rotty was on tramadol. I didn't know they put dogs on tramadol either and I thought it was strange as well!
535089 tn?1400673519 I am really puzzled. Our Dog (Casper) has Arthritis in his front legs and has been in pain for a while now. Last month I took him to the vet for his Senior Blood Panel work-up and found out that he has Arhtritis and Hypothyroid Disease. Since his visit, he has been medicated with the Thyroid meds and Rimadyl (anti-iflammatory).
Avatar f tn Sorry to be so abrupt but ibuprofen, the active ingredient in motrin, is EXTREMELY toxic to dogs! Even a small dose can lead to events that will kill him. It's best to check with your vet first on dosing, but he CAN have human aspirin as long as it's either buffered or enteric coated, like Ascriptin. But don't give him any other type of human OTC pain reliever because they are just not formulated for dogs.
Avatar n tn I am tapering off of Tramadol (350mg per day) and was wondering if I "delay" my dosage as long as possible will it cause any issues? I am cutting down by 1 pill per week as on my other post, but if I delay my morning 50mg pill from 7am to 10am (if tolerable) will this help me get off this devil drug faster? (I am currently on 350mg per day and have been taking for 6 weeks total) In other words..... the less I take during the day as tolerated, the quicker I get off of it?
Avatar f tn Does anyone know how long it takes to detox from tramadol? I've been taking it for about a month. Does anyone have any experience with this drug? Any info would be helpful! Thanks.
Avatar f tn Tramadol is a nightmare that you should avoid at all costs! It's a drug that is commonly prescribed to old dogs and I witnessed a neighbor get hooked on his dogs medication. His dog died in excruciating pain while he was high on the dogs Tramadols. It's a horribly addictive drug and getting off of it is worse than Vicodin or Oxys. Please, leave it alone.
Avatar n tn During the winter time he seems to be in more pain than usual. Should I also be giving him tramadol? What exactly is the difference between the two medications?
Avatar f tn Tramadol may cause life-threatening addiction and withdrawal symptoms in a newborn.
323551 tn?1255174750 Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated! I have been maintaining the lower dosage @ 75 mg/day = 1.5 of the 50mg tabs. It has been difficult and tempting to increase the T intake, but I've held firm. Between the anxiety and remembering how much better I'd feel if I'd just up my dosage, it's been quite the challenge indeed, especially since I've got about 200 tabs in the house.
Avatar m tn Can this be from the medication or is she in pain? The vet thinks she may have brain tumor, and I want to make sure she is not in pain.
Avatar n tn Hi. Does anyone know what the "jumping off point" would be for Tramadol dosage to avoid wd's? Example: 3 of the 50mg per day for a week or so and then stop everything? This would NOT be for long term usage, but rather a post surgery 3 week usage. The person has a long history of Opiate abuse and was prescribed Norco for over a month. Then they went to Tramadol for 2 weeks at 7 of the 50mg per day for a week and now 3 per day for the last week.
Avatar m tn So Ive been prescribed tramadol 100mgs twice a day along with taking 500mgs of naproxen. Now Ive taken tramadol in the past for pain and recreational purposes and never had a problem when I stopped but I never took them for too long of a period. My question is being that I have an addictive personality, especially to opiates(norco, oxycontin), how long is it relatively safe for me to take tramadol without becoming addicted or dependent upon them.
1078559 tn?1255957403 hang in there, in a couple weeks are gonna be the best version of yourself you've ever seen. as you stay sober, you'll continue to grow stronger and faster. the more pain, the more gain!!!
1178983 tn?1279663655 Taking an opiate for an extended period of time usually results in some level of dependence and abrupt discontinuation of the medication can lead to withdrawal symptoms resulting in a failed attempt at discontinuation. The maximum daily dosage of Tramadol in a 24 hour period is 400mg and as such your dosage is not usually associated with long term effects due to being below the maximum recommended daily dosage.
Avatar f tn I have heard of it being used in dogs going through Chemo but I would not use that without consulting a Vet first. Have you tried Dramamine or Ginger? What breed and size dog is this? How old? You could try a ginger capsule in something like lunch meat, cheese or pill pocket. I have had success using Ginger Snap cookies about 30 mins before leaving and take some along with me. Fostered a Greyhound here that was going to an adoptive home 2 states away and was going to be driven there.
