Avatar m tn Tramadol is not only a painkiller by affecting the u-opioid receptor but it also have the proprieties of inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine which would make it a painkiller with SNRI proprieties. Pristiq is a SNRI antidepressant so both are interacting together. So you have increased risk of serotonin toxicity and increased risk of seizures and other neurological symptoms. Please call her doctor to let him know this is happening.
Avatar f tn I was on tramadol and norcos for over 10 years and was put on seizure meds due to the tramadols causing seizures! Stay away from trams they are the worst!!! You are doing great and can get threw it!
Avatar m tn org/wiki/Tramadol#Uses It has been suggested that tramadol could be effective for alleviating symptoms of depression, anxiety, and phobias[11] because of its action on the noradrenergic and serotonergic systems, such as its "atypical" opioid activity.[12] However, health professionals have not endorsed its use for these disorders,[13][14] claiming it may be used as a unique treatment (only when other treatments failed), and must be used under the control of a psychiatrist.
Avatar f tn I guess my question is this-has anyone who has had an addiction to tramadol(taking it for depression)found another depression medicine that works like tramadol does but without the pet monkey on your back?
Avatar m tn ve been reading on other sites that others have had similar success with Tramadol and that some doctors are even prescribing it for depression. In fact, from what I have been reading, Tramadol works like venlafaxine (Effexor) does, even when it comes to the withdrawals, or easing off the medication. I was just wondering if there was anyone else out there who has had the same results with Tramadol or has been prescribed Tramadol for depression?
Avatar n tn I think it is the tramadol or lack of it thats causing your depression it has an antidepressant in it and after use for a wile your brain gets use to having that little bit of extra help...you very well may need a new antidepressant to snap out of this I suffer with bipolar...and just recently went threw one of the worst depressions of my life it was the first time ever being clean and sober ....I hope to never go to that dark place again...
Avatar m tn I have a theory going that I have elevated my levels of serotonin and norepinephrine by taking tramadol and that this will need to stabilize again before I am normal - ? 2. Since I haven't experienced WD's like this before on tramadol I am wondering if this feels more like the times I started up on antidepressant medicine especially since I have windows of "clarity”...is this even plausible? 3. Timeline.
Avatar m tn lesa May 26, 2010 — The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced yesterday that it has added a warning of suicide risk to the labels of tramadol hydrochloride (Ultram) and tramadol hydrochloride/acetaminophen (Ultracet).
Avatar m tn I was on Tramadol for 4 years. I was up to 400 mgs a day. I tapered down to 50 mgs a day, but I don't think I did it long enough. I decided I'd had enough of taking them. I then just stopped. The physical withdrawals were awful. I was fortunate that I was off work for the first 12 days after my last pill. Now I've been off of them completely for about 16 days. The thing that is really bad and I am going to have to get some professional help for is this awful depression.
Avatar m tn I have been on Tramadol for 18 months now and I am getting the same feelings. I am always down and the only thing that brings me back is the tramadol, and even then only for an hour or so. Im sorry that i cant offer any advice, I was about to right just what you did. If you want to chat you know were I am. I know I could use it. Speak to you soon (I hope).
Avatar f tn The best way to recover from the emotional fall out from Tramadol is to be patient and give it time. If you have a history of a mental illness, or if the depressive symptoms are intolerable, to the point where you're struggling significantly, then speak to your doctor. Some people DO eventually opt to go on an antidepressant. I personally think giving it time first is a more optimal approach. What are you doing for aftercare? Are you going to AA/NA meetings?
7682215 tn?1393326105 I've taken Norco and Tramadol before to help with ovarian cysts and other medical issues. But now I find that when my depression becomes unbearable, I tend to turn to opiates as a way to numb it all out vs cutting. I am going through an incredible amount of stress and depression. Now that I'm in my early adult years, I've started to notice the development of symptoms very typical of Bi-polar depression, which I have yet to be diagnosed and treated for, but it explains everything.
Avatar m tn Many have been taking Tramadol for their Resistant Severe depression for over two years and if prescribed and taken responsibly it is no doubt 100% effective in almost every case no matter how cronic and severe the patients level of depression is. It is NOT a conventional Opiate, but rather a synthetic form of very mild Opiate that mildly binds to opiate receptors in the brain.
Avatar n tn Yes interactions can occur between SSRIs and Tramadol related to a rare condition called Serotonin Syndrome. Since you're not having any interactions, maybe your dosages are low enough not to be a problem. But I agree with the previous post, definitely discuss your concerns with your Pharmacist and contact your Doctor if you feel like you need more info.
1578386 tn?1296256257 I can tell you exactly what the problem is as this happened to me. They had me on cymbalta (anti-depressant) and then put me on tramadol (the worst drug on the planet in my opinion) and the tramadol isn't only a synthetic opiate, it's also an anti-depressant - so there's a serious risk of raising the serotonin levels in your brain that can cause seizures (it's called serotonin syndrome).
968560 tn?1307451498 Hi mpace6983, all I can say is I had the same problem with Tramadol and I also got insomnia from Tramadol and hydrocodone. So, I think you could try Valium but that is stronger I think. Maybe you have a cross reaction with another drug too? I know you will get a better answer on this site. Good luck and hope your pain gets better.
Avatar f tn ve had a long cold winter, and the Tramadol stopped working for my chronic back pain and the depression. My Dr. told me to get back on the Effexor because my mood was really flat and I had started crying and becoming overly emotional. That's when I knew I needed to make some changes with my meds. I don't know what I will do for my back pain, once I'm off the opioids? Hopefully I can manage with Tylenol and muscle relaxants.
Avatar f tn it is twice a day, i take for depression and hope to help on stop smoking and lossing weight and the Tramadol(not prescribed for me) 50mg taking for pain and hope weight loss. I do not even know if it is safe. buuuuuuuut anywaay. funny you are sunny66, I am mary66.......
Avatar f tn My Dr prescribed lexapro for the depression has anyone had experience coming off the tram and starting a ssri to help with depression?
Avatar f tn I have horrible depression and anxiety that causes mood swings, suicidal thoughts and intense anger. Its not bipolar since its not manic and doesn't go up or down.I used to be a heavy pot smoker which kept it under control. Well I smoked after my first son was born and noticed I got heavily addicted to it. (Bitchy without it and fiending it constantly) My doctor prescribed zoloft but I didn't feel any different and didn't change my mood at all.
Avatar f tn To the extent that the psychiatrist is correct, and the tramadol caused the mania, will I no longer need the seraquell? Or could the seraquell cause depression, once I don't have the tramadol to "balance off" the results of the seraquell? On the other hand, I am now sleeping well at night for the first time in probably 15 years. Thanks for any help you can offer.
