Toprol xl tachycardia

Common Questions and Answers about Toprol xl tachycardia

toprol

Avatar f tn Toprol XL is a slow release medication designed to deliver dose over 24 hour time period and it takes a week or so for the blood level to stabilize to achieve effect. It shouldn't make any difference when you take it as long as it is the same time each day. Have you discussed this problem with your doctor..perhaps a lower dosage or try another beta blocker. I take 100 mg/day and don't notice any side effects, but drug response is variable.
280234 tn?1532986249 I was later switched to Toprol XL 25 mg to control the tachycardia better. I was on that several years. I then found out I was pregnant with my second child, and switched to Labetalol. After having the 2nd baby (which was a normal delivery) I was put on Toprol XL again by my PCP. I was eventually referred to a cardiologist by my PCP to evaluate the high BP & tachycardia as a precaution. I now have a cardiologist.
Avatar n tn I was released from the hospital yesterday after a two day bout of atrial tachycardia and off and on atrial fib. My Toprol XL was increased from 100mg to 150 mg. 100 mg in the morning and 50 mg at night. I have low blood pressure (90/60) and I'm afraid that taking the extra 50 mg at night will drop my blood pressure too low and I could die in my sleep from my bp bottoming out? Is this an unreasonable fear?
Avatar f tn My blood pressure runs around 91/60 and my pulse rate at 50 is this to low is this why I might feel sluggish and tired with no energy. I take medicine for tachycardia 50 mg p/day of toprol xl.
Avatar n tn Once at the hospital I was injected with adenosine (extremely unpleasant by the way), which only worsened the situation. Eventually, I was injected with toprol XL, which over the next 20 minutes decreased my heart rate to approximately 100 bpm. I was sent home within the next few hours, and prescribed daily tablets of toprol XL. Well, I took these beta blockers over the next week or so, but due to some chest pains and extreme fatigue I was taken off of them.
1090352 tn?1257448016 I have been having PVC's since July. I am currently on Toprol XL, 25mg in the morning and 50mg in the evening and they haven't stopped only softened in their effect ( I still feel them just not as hard a pounding sensation). I found out from extensive testing that I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis which has formed nodules on the left side of my thyroid gland. My question...
Avatar m tn I don't think Metoprolol makes them worse. What I have seen on myself, however, is that it doesn't work at all. I took up to 50 mg a day. I switched temporarily now to Toprol XL to see if that's the answer since the generics seem to have no effect.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with tachycardia induced cardiomyopathy and my first ECHO showed LVEF of 45 mildly reduced. After about a year of searching we settled on Toprol XL, but even at the most tolerable dose I was still mildly tachycardia. I've had my LVEF checked annually and in 2014 my LVEF was 40, in 2014 it was 32, in 2015 it was 35, in 2016 after tinkering more with my Toprol XL there was good improvement to 50, but in 2017 it dropped again to 40.
Avatar f tn I take 200 mg of toprol xl (metoprolo er), 100 morning, 100 night. My tables can be broken in half to make a 50 mg dose, which I have also used. I'd guess your 50 mg toprol xl can be split in half to give you a 25 mg tablet. I'm not suggesting what dose you should use, just saying I think you have a way to take 25 mg accurately if that's what is needed. I take the med to slow down my HR, driven by AFig. When in sinus I was taking 100 mg and had a rest HR of about 60.
1520499 tn?1291058365 At some point metoprolol (generic for Toprol XL) became unavailable, was switched to brand name Toprol XL, and have stayed with it since much fewer side effects, namely less "brain fog." My tachycardia seems to be set off by preservatives, incl sulfites/ates, nitrites/ates, flavor enhancers like monosodium glutamate, and red pepper flake. Black pepper in moderation doesn't seem to be a problem for me.
Avatar n tn I have been on this combination for 6+ years and doing pretty well with them. In May 2008 I was started on Toprol XL 25 mg. It worked for my blood pressure and lowered it but it also made my depression worse and I finally went to my doctor to get off of them. I am now weaning off of the Toprol XL. I am on the second day of 12.5mg and I can't tell you how bad I have felt all day. Extreme anxiety and jittery. I CANNOT wait for this drug to be out of my system.
Avatar n tn i have graves diseas and i take toprol xl 10mg for tachycardia. i recently was awakened by severe chest pains and continued until i saw my endocronoligist which was 6 hrs. they did an EKG & it was bradycardia @ 45 bpm and my blood pressure @ 90/50. I was sent to ER & admitted to 23 observation. they did a stress test, chest Xray, blood work (troponin levels), d-dimer and all came back normal & was then discharged with heart rate @ 46..blood pressure @ 83/46 and chest pains..
Avatar f tn Yes you can find online a few web sites , that will tell you this ! look under side effects of toprol xl - you can find it by reading (problems with toprol xl) it should come up ! a long while ago (years) bbc news reported the u.k medical asso , had found beta blockers caused cholesterol to build up in most people who took it. so they limited the use of beta blockers - they also reported that due to adverse side effects , beta blockers would be in limited useage in the u.k.
Avatar f tn Results of a recent Event Monitor monomorphic unifocal wide complex beats, probably ventricular, couplets, triplets and runs of 4 to 9 beats long, the longer runs being irregular. Rates tend to be less then 150BPM but could be up to 180BPM. No P waves seen. Rare PVC's of a different morphology, PAC's and a 5-beat atrial tachycardia at 150BPM. No pauses. Normal stress/echo, structurally normal heart I've had PVC's/ PAC's and runs of Atrial Tach for years.
94902 tn?1330479667 Just wondering if anyone is pregnant and taking either Zoloft (sertraline) or Toprol XL (metaporpolol). I currently take both - one for anxiety and the other because I have PVCs and tachycardia (which causes the anxiety). I am now estimated 6 weeks pregnant, and am having to make the decision about wether or not to come off my meds. I am in the process of weighing my pros and cons, but wonder if any other moms have been on any meds while pregnant. I would appreciate any input.
343006 tn?1314446471 I then e mailed the makers of toprol xl - and they confirmed toprol xl can cause ringing of the ears as a known side effect. I also checked DIovan and its listed as well - Due to this , I guess the next best thing to do is see my Doctor and complain to get off the medications or switch them. thanks too for info on h.b.p and how it can cause ringing in the ears, when its too high .. I recheck and check my b.p everyday 3 to 4 times daily- when medicatated its down to normal levels.
Avatar f tn Hi, Everyone. My EP switched me from Sotalol (160 mg daily) to Toprol XL (25 mg daily). His instructions were to stop taking Sotalol (no weaning) and start taking Toprol. It was a HUGE leap of faith for me as I have tried to not obsess about this. Today was my first day. I'm doing fine, but want to know if anyone else has made the same switch and faired well. Thanks!
Avatar f tn My pharmacacy switched my "Toprol XL 50 mg" to a Generic one called "Metoprolol Succinate ER 50 mg" (manufactured by Sandoz) in December 2007. I have been on some form of Beta Blockers for years and I thought nothing of it. Within a week I was at my eye doctor because my left eye went from 20/20 to 20/60 and was so blurry that I felt like I had suntan lotion or something in it. Since then I have been to so many doctors because things just kept getting worse.

Avatar n tn I am now on toprol XL 50mg once a day. My blood pressure is running 120/71 now. when the PVC are happening I am dizzy and cannot think straight. I dont know how I can just live with this when I feel so flush and cannot function. Seems like 1/3 less pulses means 30 % less oxygen carrying RBC are circulating. It seems debilitating to me. Can the toprol XL dose be increased without running my blood pressure down too low. How high can it be raised safely.
Avatar f tn I started briefly with Atenolol, but I am now taking Toprol XL.
Avatar n tn I have been on Toprol XL and now the metoprolol( generic for toprol) for about 12 years. I have had no side effects from it. I am older than you (67 now) however I have walked 8-10 miles a day for 30 plus years.. I now usuallly walk 4 miles per day and ride a recumbuent stationay bike 10-12 miles a day with lots of tension or resistance on it.. Plus after I retired in 1996, I had a farm for about 8-9 years and did lots of hard physical work on it..
Avatar f tn About two weeks ago I woke in the night with fast heart rate and was brought to the ER. I have had fast heart rate in the past and my internal medicine doctor put me on toprol xl 50 mg once a day. At the hospital they did cardiac testing and told me it was anxiety. On the ECG they performed my results came back borderline. They also gave me 5mg lopressor in the IV, and I've been having PVC's ever since the administration of the drug.
Avatar f tn This came back normal as well. I am currently taking Toprol XL 50 mg, 25 in the am and 25 in the evening. Recently, the past month or so, I have been experiencing shortness of breath/feeling like I'm not getting enought air. I have been to the doctor at my University, who didn't hear any wheezing or anything she seemed concerned about when she listened to my chest. My questions are 1) Could this shortness of breath be a side effect of the Toprol?
Avatar m tn m @210 (still overweight) and on low dosages of Lisinopril (10mg), Toprol XL (25mg), and a diuretic (37.5). Over the past 4 weeks, I've experienced some morning sluggishness and ED. It's not a sudden onset; I've been very cold some nights at bedtime, had sporatic ED... and I walk 5 miles a day four or more times a week... so up to now, no one has been surprised about a pulse of 60. Only now my pulse is often @ 50 and occasionally in the mid to upper 40's.
