Toprol xl medication

Common Questions and Answers about Toprol xl medication

toprol

Avatar f tn I take 200 mg of toprol xl (metoprolo er), 100 morning, 100 night. My tables can be broken in half to make a 50 mg dose, which I have also used. I'd guess your 50 mg toprol xl can be split in half to give you a 25 mg tablet. I'm not suggesting what dose you should use, just saying I think you have a way to take 25 mg accurately if that's what is needed. I take the med to slow down my HR, driven by AFig. When in sinus I was taking 100 mg and had a rest HR of about 60.
Avatar f tn Yes you can find online a few web sites , that will tell you this ! look under side effects of toprol xl - you can find it by reading (problems with toprol xl) it should come up ! a long while ago (years) bbc news reported the u.k medical asso , had found beta blockers caused cholesterol to build up in most people who took it. so they limited the use of beta blockers - they also reported that due to adverse side effects , beta blockers would be in limited useage in the u.k.
Avatar n tn I'm on Toprol XL, Cardizem, Benicar along with Lasix for HTN. I have a BUN of 32 (up from 24 a month ago) with a creatinine of 1.2. Can it be medication related? I am not overweight nor do I overuse salt, but am concerned about kidney failture.
406399 tn?1201884300 what is the best way to wean off ,of toprol xl beta blocker medication. iv been on it for 2yrs now and I dont like its effects at all. been to 2 doctors and they refused to take me off it ? or change it to another medication. I was put on this med for palpitations that come and go. and high blood pressure that wont drop down easy at times! my ekg tests over the years have been normal and had stress tests done , again normal ? why then toprol xl ??
Avatar n tn I am now on toprol XL 50mg once a day. My blood pressure is running 120/71 now. when the PVC are happening I am dizzy and cannot think straight. I dont know how I can just live with this when I feel so flush and cannot function. Seems like 1/3 less pulses means 30 % less oxygen carrying RBC are circulating. It seems debilitating to me. Can the toprol XL dose be increased without running my blood pressure down too low. How high can it be raised safely.
Avatar f tn Toprol XL is a slow release medication designed to deliver dose over 24 hour time period and it takes a week or so for the blood level to stabilize to achieve effect. It shouldn't make any difference when you take it as long as it is the same time each day. Have you discussed this problem with your doctor..perhaps a lower dosage or try another beta blocker. I take 100 mg/day and don't notice any side effects, but drug response is variable.
Avatar f tn My blood pressure runs around 91/60 and my pulse rate at 50 is this to low is this why I might feel sluggish and tired with no energy. I take medicine for tachycardia 50 mg p/day of toprol xl.
Avatar n tn You can get off the Toprol - its not easy - weening slow works the best your side effects are pretty normal of toprol - I took toprol xl for about 6.5 years - long term useage ! I hated it - have to say it was the worst beta blocker iv taken in my life ! and I would never take it or anything like it again ! if you get help from Doctor in weening off it , expect to be put on another drug after your off the toprol - for h.b.p. ccb or ?
280234 tn?1532986249 I was later switched to Toprol XL 25 mg to control the tachycardia better. I was on that several years. I then found out I was pregnant with my second child, and switched to Labetalol. After having the 2nd baby (which was a normal delivery) I was put on Toprol XL again by my PCP. I was eventually referred to a cardiologist by my PCP to evaluate the high BP & tachycardia as a precaution. I now have a cardiologist.
Avatar f tn I switched from Toprol xl to Metropolol tart about 2-3 months ago and since then one of my ankles, has swollen up and it is very painful to walk on. Even after being off of it, overnight, there is no relief. The swelling has been constant for the whole 2 months. Has anybody else had this kind of side effect? I am going to try going back to the name brand Toprol xl, to see if this helps, before I have a MRI done of my ankle.
Avatar n tn I have been on this combination for 6+ years and doing pretty well with them. In May 2008 I was started on Toprol XL 25 mg. It worked for my blood pressure and lowered it but it also made my depression worse and I finally went to my doctor to get off of them. I am now weaning off of the Toprol XL. I am on the second day of 12.5mg and I can't tell you how bad I have felt all day. Extreme anxiety and jittery. I CANNOT wait for this drug to be out of my system.
Avatar m tn I have taken 50 mgs of toprol XL for 12-13 years. It is a very safe and a good medication in my opinion. The XL means that it has an Extended Life .. in other words one pill is supposed work for at least 24 hours i think... but anyway... I dont know why the doc would say just use it when your rate is fast.. if you took one a day ....your heart rate should stay pretty regular Id think.. but Im not a doctor... I dont really know about taking it occassionally... doesnt make alot of sense to me..
Avatar n tn I am told this is an excellent medication and typically very well tolerated. I tried Toprol XL before for several months. Did not tolerate it well, mainly due to severe nightmares. Once removed from the Toprol, nightmares stopped. Is this a different class of beta blocker that is safer and what (if anything) should I be concerned about? Meds are aspirin (81), protonix (40), HCTZ (25), Lisinopril (10-20) sertraline (50) and now the 6.25 carvedilol.
Avatar f tn Hello to everyone. My questions are concerning the drug toprol xl. I've been on this medication for about 6months now, and have over these past few months I've developed symptoms that initially led me to believe I had ovarian problems. that was found not to be the case, had ct scan and pelvic ultrasound. everything is normal , except for a umbilical hernia and degenerative arthrits, with some spurring of the spine. I had already been diagnosed with the arthritis.
Avatar f tn I take 100mg of Toprol XL at 630 pm every day & have for about a year. However, this time isn't working out for me anymore & I'd like to change it to early morning around 11am or maybe 12pm. How would I go about doing this? I know I can't just out of the blue take it at 11am one day. Any help is appreciated!
Avatar f tn I just discovered this after 3 months of total misery, 7 different doctors, multiple tests, 1 hospitalization, 16 pound weight loss, almost lost my job, etc., etc., etc.. I want to know if this will have permanent effects on my body and heart and will I ever be the same again. I still don't feel 100% and have been back on the brand TOPROL XL for 9 days now.
94902 tn?1330479667 Just wondering if anyone is pregnant and taking either Zoloft (sertraline) or Toprol XL (metaporpolol). I currently take both - one for anxiety and the other because I have PVCs and tachycardia (which causes the anxiety). I am now estimated 6 weeks pregnant, and am having to make the decision about wether or not to come off my meds. I am in the process of weighing my pros and cons, but wonder if any other moms have been on any meds while pregnant. I would appreciate any input.
343006 tn?1314446471 I then e mailed the makers of toprol xl - and they confirmed toprol xl can cause ringing of the ears as a known side effect. I also checked DIovan and its listed as well - Due to this , I guess the next best thing to do is see my Doctor and complain to get off the medications or switch them. thanks too for info on h.b.p and how it can cause ringing in the ears, when its too high .. I recheck and check my b.p everyday 3 to 4 times daily- when medicatated its down to normal levels.
Avatar n tn Sorry I can't help as my experience is limited to Toprol and Metoprolol. But, if I may ask you a question: do I read it correctly that the Cardizem does a much better job of lower you heart rate than does a beta blocker?

Avatar f tn Hi, Everyone. My EP switched me from Sotalol (160 mg daily) to Toprol XL (25 mg daily). His instructions were to stop taking Sotalol (no weaning) and start taking Toprol. It was a HUGE leap of faith for me as I have tried to not obsess about this. Today was my first day. I'm doing fine, but want to know if anyone else has made the same switch and faired well. Thanks!
1054923 tn?1258520071 I recently had a pacemaker implanted for BradyCardia along with that I started taking Toprol XL 25mil. Its been approx 2 months since starting this med for speeding heart rate. Since I have been taking this my vision during the day is very fuzzy, at night its horrible. I have curtailed driving at night because everything is blending together. I am also feeling very unbalanced not dizzy per say but woozy.
Avatar f tn Yes I would definitely call back on Monday. I have had that happen and after a few days of continuing on the med it started to make me feel like I was in a tunnel and the noises around me sound very far off and I felt faint. Now keep in mind that I continued taking the medication not knowing that it was dropping my bp too low. It's good that you caught it very soon. Toprol xl is an extended release medication and you don't want the bp dropping too low on that type of med.
Avatar f tn I have had increased blood pressure and heart rate over the last several months and my doctor put me on Toprol XL 25mg. Now I am having severe pain in my right knee which goes down into my ankle causing sharp pain. Could this problem be caused by the medication I am taking for my BP? I am taking the generic form, Metoprolol ER. Thank you.
Avatar f tn My pharmacacy switched my "Toprol XL 50 mg" to a Generic one called "Metoprolol Succinate ER 50 mg" (manufactured by Sandoz) in December 2007. I have been on some form of Beta Blockers for years and I thought nothing of it. Within a week I was at my eye doctor because my left eye went from 20/20 to 20/60 and was so blurry that I felt like I had suntan lotion or something in it. Since then I have been to so many doctors because things just kept getting worse.
Avatar m tn Are you taking Toprol Xl. I was taking it and had some respiratory problems and they put me on Bystolic ... the Pulmonary doctor told me that Toprol XL sometimes caused breathing or bronchial problems.. and the Bystolic is more respiratory friendly... they are both Beta Blockers...
