toprol

Avatar f tn I know for sure the switch to generic caused me all of the problems because I have been back on the Brand name TOPROL XL 50 mg for 3 days and I am VERY happy to say I feel WONDERFUL and I have my life back! Beta Blockers have always worked for me (been on them for at least 20 years), but this generic stuff is horrible! The people who make the generics have no idea how they reak havok on people with arrhythmias, I was MISERABLE and couldn't figure it out. I lost 3 months of my life.
Avatar f tn The problem is that if you do a google search for just about anything, you can find. Almost all my patients are on generic medications including generic toprol xl. There are some medications that have a recognized difference between brand name and generic, and there are some brand name drugs that do not have generics because they were too difficult to produce. The medication will be out of your system in less than 5 days. As far as lasting effects, it is difficult to say.
Avatar n tn Many people report an increase in heart palpitations after switching from Toprol XL to its generic version, Metoprolol. My guess is that the generic version is ****, which is the case with many generics, despite what the FDA tells consumers.
214864 tn?1229715239 FDA Finds Fault with Generic Toprol XL -- Problems Reported Earlier by ConsumerLab.com (Date Posted: 8/28/2008) On August 12, 2008, the U.S. FDA sent a letter to Sandoz Inc. warning of violations in its manufacture of Metoprolol Succinate ER tablets and other drug products. Sandoz's Metoprolol Succinate ER tablets are generic versions of Toprol XL. In March 2008, ConsumerLab.com reported on consumer complaints with Sandoz's Metoprolol Succinate ER. As described in the ConsumerLab.
926651 tn?1244140366 Not everyone can take Toprol XL. Most likely this is a side effect of the Tropol. Are you taking the generic or brand name? Brand name is always better with heart medications. There are other beta blockers such as "Coreg".
406399 tn?1201884300 what is the best way to wean off ,of toprol xl beta blocker medication. iv been on it for 2yrs now and I dont like its effects at all. been to 2 doctors and they refused to take me off it ? or change it to another medication. Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
Avatar f tn I suggest you call the doctor or pharmacist. You are on a very low dose. I take 50mg of Toprol XL twice daily and that does not totally keep the SVT under control. It's possible you are not taking enough.
Avatar n tn I understand Metoprolol SR and Toprol XL are equivalent, the Metoprolol being the generic, and much lower in cost. I've taken both, albeit it has been at least 6 years since I last used the brand-name Toprol XL. I guess I'm 'lucky" as far as HR goes. If I take 100 mg twice a day of Metoprolol my rest HR goes into the 70s at rest. I have been trying lower dose to see if that reduces the dream problem I have.
Avatar m tn I have been taking 50ml of Toprol XL for three weeks. I am going off of it today, and was wondering if I should wean off of it?
Avatar f tn My husband also has irregular heart rate and this week we got him switched back from generic metoprolol succinate to toprol XL and lo and behold he is back in good heart rhythm. That got me thinking if indeed my problem could be similiar.......one thing that has really upset me is that after my heart attack my EF was at 42% and it has dropped to 30% and again wonder if I need to be on diferent drugs. My dr thinks that isn't the answer but I'm not sure...... Any thoughts?
Avatar n tn Diana: Id say toprol xl or its generic .. metoprolol... Ive taken all three with out much trouble....hope this helps...
Avatar f tn I have had increased blood pressure and heart rate over the last several months and my doctor put me on Toprol XL 25mg. Now I am having severe pain in my right knee which goes down into my ankle causing sharp pain. Could this problem be caused by the medication I am taking for my BP? I am taking the generic form, Metoprolol ER. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I had the same problems when Toprol went generic. The generics came from different manufacturers and some didn't work and caused symptoms that you described until I found one that basically only peddled the pills made by the original manufacturer Astra Zeneca. I have since switched to Calcium Channel Blockers and after that to an ACE-Inhibitor.
Avatar n tn Any way thats not what im writing about. I was on Toprol XL for years and the generic (metropolol) came out and they swithed me over to the Metoropolol and I started having breathing and respiratory problems.. My family doc called it bronchittis.. well it got so bad, I made an appointment with a lung doc.. but then I got to thinking.. and figured it all started when they put me on the dang Metropolol ..
Avatar n tn Does anyone take NSAID's with their Beta Blocker? I take Toprol XL and it said there is a moderate drug interaction.
Avatar f tn Hello to everyone. My questions are concerning the drug toprol xl. I've been on this medication for about 6months now, and have over these past few months I've developed symptoms that initially led me to believe I had ovarian problems. that was found not to be the case, had ct scan and pelvic ultrasound. everything is normal , except for a umbilical hernia and degenerative arthrits, with some spurring of the spine. I had already been diagnosed with the arthritis.
Avatar n tn She has had elevated cholesterol but has taken Lipitor for years and it is well-controlled. Her cardiologist increased her Toprol XL fr/25 mg/d to 25 mg BID, which had some transient positive effect that lasted ~2d b/f degrading back to pre-increase frequency. She asked her cardio about an EP study, but he's opted to cath her instead. Would a less invasive procedure such as a stress test or cardiac CT be reasonable b/f cath?
Avatar f tn Hi there again, I posted about the switch to generic Metoprolol from brand Toprol back in March. Just a thought, I wonder if when they switched you back to the Brand Toprol...did they put you back on Toprol "XL". It's long acting. The generic "metoprolol" Succinate ER did not stay in my system like the Toprol XL, something about the binding properties that didn't let it last the full 24 hours. Taking the generic was like taking nothing at all for me.
Avatar n tn I have been on this combination for 6+ years and doing pretty well with them. In May 2008 I was started on Toprol XL 25 mg. It worked for my blood pressure and lowered it but it also made my depression worse and I finally went to my doctor to get off of them. I am now weaning off of the Toprol XL. I am on the second day of 12.5mg and I can't tell you how bad I have felt all day. Extreme anxiety and jittery. I CANNOT wait for this drug to be out of my system.
Avatar n tn I found out I had MVP at 9 years old. Im on the generic form of Toprol XL and thats it. I asked my dr to operate on me and fix this valve so I can live a better life. He said "no way". Far too many risks. Im tired all the time.
Avatar f tn Yes you can find online a few web sites , that will tell you this ! look under side effects of toprol xl - you can find it by reading (problems with toprol xl) it should come up ! a long while ago (years) bbc news reported the u.k medical asso , had found beta blockers caused cholesterol to build up in most people who took it. so they limited the use of beta blockers - they also reported that due to adverse side effects , beta blockers would be in limited useage in the u.k.
Avatar f tn While looking on the internet yesterday, I cam across alot of posts where people were talking about getting sick when the dr, changed their Toprol XL to generic. I was on name brand Toprol XL for probably 10 years or more...no problems. They changed me to generic in October and in November is when I started having the PVC's. Has anyone heard of this causing the PVC's?
Avatar f tn I have taken Toprol XL or some beta blocker since the 1980s. I was originally (at that time) diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse and sinus tachycardia. I recently wore a 14 day monitor and today my cardiologist said I have STV. I assume he can tell the difference between STV and sinus tachycardia but to me they feel the same. I already take 50mg Toprol XL twice a day. He wants me to take a half pill extra when I take my regular pill.
Avatar n tn Many patients also reported a loss of antidepressive effect. Patients who thereafter switched back to Wellbutrin XL or an alternative generic (such as Bupropion XL manufactured by Watson Pharmaceuticals) saw a return of the antidepressive effect and lessening of side effects.
343006 tn?1314446471 I then e mailed the makers of toprol xl - and they confirmed toprol xl can cause ringing of the ears as a known side effect. I also checked DIovan and its listed as well - Due to this , I guess the next best thing to do is see my Doctor and complain to get off the medications or switch them. thanks too for info on h.b.p and how it can cause ringing in the ears, when its too high .. I recheck and check my b.p everyday 3 to 4 times daily- when medicatated its down to normal levels.
Avatar n tn I am told this is an excellent medication and typically very well tolerated. I tried Toprol XL before for several months. Did not tolerate it well, mainly due to severe nightmares. Once removed from the Toprol, nightmares stopped. Is this a different class of beta blocker that is safer and what (if anything) should I be concerned about? Meds are aspirin (81), protonix (40), HCTZ (25), Lisinopril (10-20) sertraline (50) and now the 6.25 carvedilol.
