Toprol xl for pvcs

Common Questions and Answers about Toprol xl for pvcs

toprol

Avatar n tn I am now on toprol XL 50mg once a day. My blood pressure is running 120/71 now. when the PVC are happening I am dizzy and cannot think straight. I dont know how I can just live with this when I feel so flush and cannot function. Seems like 1/3 less pulses means 30 % less oxygen carrying RBC are circulating. It seems debilitating to me. Can the toprol XL dose be increased without running my blood pressure down too low. How high can it be raised safely.
Avatar f tn Toprol XL also comes in 25 mg and those can even be split to a 12.5 dosage. I take 37.5 twice a day (one and half pills each dose). I started on 12.5 (half pill) a day and increased slowly until I got to 25 twice a day. I am taking it for sinus tach following open heart surgery. It gets my rate to about 95. I can not take a high dose due to low blood pressure and risk of heart block. I began having frequent PVCs and my docs increased the dose to 37.5 twice a day and it did seems to help.
Avatar f tn I found that 75mg of Toprol-XL 2x/day works better than 100/am and 50pm or 150mg am. Go figure.
Avatar n tn I have frequent PVC's (often with bigeminy) and I also have lots of reflux problems. I have been getting a lot more PVC's the past couple of weeks. I switched from Toprol XL to generic Metoprolol, and I I don't know if that has had any affect. I have also had increased reflux issues during this time. I am getting more PVC's and bigeminy than normal and am noticing it most when I lean forward, especailly while eating. Does this sound like the PVC's are coming from reflux?
Avatar n tn ve been off Toprol for 4 days. I was only on Toprol XL for a week anyhow. Anyone have these symptoms before? Should I worry? What would cause me to only get PVCs now when I first stand up? Has anyone heard of PVCs happening only when you first stand up? Thanks!
Avatar n tn and he told me he had encountered 3-4 other folks who had respiratory problems when taking metropolol... Medicare wont pay for the Toprol XL... with the new Health CAre deal we have... so I had to paid for the toprol xl myself but it was sure worth it... I felt horrible when I was on the Metropolol.. you might give it a try.,.. and one the afib and palpitations.. I put up with it for 13 years ..(.was shocked back into rhythm about 15 times...laffin..
Avatar f tn 4 days ago pcp changed my beta blocker from propranolol 40mg twice daily to metprolol er 25mg daily d/t low pulse in 40s- 50s. Been on propranolol for 22yrs for PVCS. She had me just stop propranolol and start metoprolol, been experiencing shakiness, occassional pvcs, headache, nausea, pulse still 45 - low 60s at rest and with exertion 70-90. Should she have tapered propranolol or will the metoprolol block the more serious withdrawal symptoms ie: HTN, chest pain ect.
Avatar n tn I had an episode of svt in June. Given adenosine to stop it. Then prescribed Toprol XL to keep heart rate low. It seems that I have pacs every day. Yesterday it was constant for about 9 hours. About one per minute. My chest feels like it is quaking, makes me fearfull, nauseous, generally weak. Saw cardiologist yesterday, we both wonder if Toprol is making situation worse. It's never been this constant before. I have another appointment in a month.
Avatar n tn I am on 100mg of Toprol XL twice a day and have had an ablation for Ventricular Tachycardia 4 months ago. I am wondering if the large dose of Toprol could be contributing to an increase in PVC activity?
Avatar n tn I take Toprol XL 50 mg. and palpitations began again after they were gone for a month. Cardiologist said he could put me in the hospital and monitor me on the drug sotalol to try to get them to stop. Does anyone know about this medication and if so does it work and what are the side affects?
Avatar n tn My doctor has prescribed me 25 mg Toprol XL for the PVC's (flutters) I get after I eat. After reading the possible side effects, I am a little leary. Does anyone have any advice? Does anyone know what the common side effects are?
Avatar f tn It's hard to know if the pvcs are becoming dangerous, unless you've had all the usual tests that say they are just pvcs. Have you had an echo, ekg, holter monitor? I have had several bad days, bad nights, and like artskip, it's been non-stop pvcs daily at very high frequency for at least two years. Oh, what I wouldn't give to go back to the days when I had only 10,00/day.
Avatar n tn s nothing to worry about. Totally harmless. My PCP put me on generic 25mg Toprol XL and my PVCs got worse by the 4th day, so they decided to increase the Toprol XL to 50mg and after a day I started getting bad headaches, chest pains and my PVCs were up to 30 or so now a day. So my PCP told me to stop taking Toprol right away. I only took it for a week. He put me on Ativan for my anxiety which is through the roof.
Avatar n tn She has had elevated cholesterol but has taken Lipitor for years and it is well-controlled. Her cardiologist increased her Toprol XL fr/25 mg/d to 25 mg BID, which had some transient positive effect that lasted ~2d b/f degrading back to pre-increase frequency. She asked her cardio about an EP study, but he's opted to cath her instead. Would a less invasive procedure such as a stress test or cardiac CT be reasonable b/f cath?
Avatar n tn but you must make sure it is the generic for toprol xl because there is metoprolol succinate which is the generic for toprol xl and metoprolol tartrate which is the generic for lopressor. They both work in two different ways so they can not be interchanged at the same dose. I asked this question before toprol xl became a generic.
Avatar f tn HI I just read your post. I was taking Toprol xl for over a year for sinus tach. My pharmacy switched me to the generic brand. 2 weeks later I started getting skipped beats (PVC I presume). I had never had them before. Went to the cardio and he didn't think it could be the generic brand, but switched me back to Toprol. It has been almost a month and I am still getting pvc's. I do believe it was the generic. If we don't complain, then no one will know.
Avatar f tn ve had even monitors before and have always taken all my medication, including my Toprol XL. Were you on the monitor for PACs or PVCs or palps?? Do you usually get them everyday? Maybe an event monitor would be better for you - you wear it for a month, and when you get symptoms, you press the button, and after 5 events, you call a number, and replay the monitor back to them.
Avatar n tn After Im done, it as it should drops pretty fast to about 75, but then a few minutes later increases into the 90s again, and sets off a panic attack. I do take toprol xl for PVCs (which I dont get at all during this entire time) and xanax for anxiety. Does it sound like a heart issue, or anxiety to you? Or has anyone else experienced this?
Avatar n tn I was hospitalized for 3 days when I first started taking it. You have to be monitored closely. I am now on Toprol XL - a very small dose, and it makes my pvcs lessen and even go away. It is a pretty safe drug and you must try and take the smallest dose possible. Write again and let me know how you are doing.
1090352 tn?1257448016 I have been having PVC's since July. I am currently on Toprol XL, 25mg in the morning and 50mg in the evening and they haven't stopped only softened in their effect ( I still feel them just not as hard a pounding sensation). I found out from extensive testing that I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis which has formed nodules on the left side of my thyroid gland. My question...
Avatar f tn I was on Toprol XL for a number of years, but only 25mg. I hated the side effects such as shortness of breath and nightsweats, but never depressions. Then I went to see a cardiologist and he took me off the beta blocker and prescribed a calcium channel blocker - 5mg.
Avatar f tn I have taken Toprol XL or some beta blocker since the 1980s. I was originally (at that time) diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse and sinus tachycardia. I recently wore a 14 day monitor and today my cardiologist said I have STV. I assume he can tell the difference between STV and sinus tachycardia but to me they feel the same. I already take 50mg Toprol XL twice a day. He wants me to take a half pill extra when I take my regular pill.
Avatar n tn I have been on this combination for 6+ years and doing pretty well with them. In May 2008 I was started on Toprol XL 25 mg. It worked for my blood pressure and lowered it but it also made my depression worse and I finally went to my doctor to get off of them. I am now weaning off of the Toprol XL. I am on the second day of 12.5mg and I can't tell you how bad I have felt all day. Extreme anxiety and jittery. I CANNOT wait for this drug to be out of my system.
Avatar f tn Hello to everyone. My questions are concerning the drug toprol xl. I've been on this medication for about 6months now, and have over these past few months I've developed symptoms that initially led me to believe I had ovarian problems. that was found not to be the case, had ct scan and pelvic ultrasound. everything is normal , except for a umbilical hernia and degenerative arthrits, with some spurring of the spine. I had already been diagnosed with the arthritis.
Avatar n tn the toprol will slow your heart rate down and make it beat less forcefully, which may eliminate feeling some of the PVCs and PACS. Toprol for me did nothing as far as PVCS go, for me. In fact, it actually made them worse I think. I was switched to Bystolic another beta blocker, that seemed to help more than the toprol. Good luck to you.
Avatar f tn Yes you can find online a few web sites , that will tell you this ! look under side effects of toprol xl - you can find it by reading (problems with toprol xl) it should come up ! a long while ago (years) bbc news reported the u.k medical asso , had found beta blockers caused cholesterol to build up in most people who took it. so they limited the use of beta blockers - they also reported that due to adverse side effects , beta blockers would be in limited useage in the u.k.
94902 tn?1330479667 Just wondering if anyone is pregnant and taking either Zoloft (sertraline) or Toprol XL (metaporpolol). I currently take both - one for anxiety and the other because I have PVCs and tachycardia (which causes the anxiety). I am now estimated 6 weeks pregnant, and am having to make the decision about wether or not to come off my meds. I am in the process of weighing my pros and cons, but wonder if any other moms have been on any meds while pregnant. I would appreciate any input.
