toprol xl and anxiety

I, too, take Toprol XL as well as meds for depression and anxiety and have just learned about these problems with it.

After wearing a halter monitor for 24hours and now knowing my heart rate rises to 140 in my sleep and when sitting and also I had an echocardiogram and it came back normal which is good so I know my heart is ok and this is due to my anxiety . I was given Toprol XL 25 mg to take but I am afraid to take it. I know its my anxiety talking but is it safe to take when it is for anxiety and to steady my heart rate?Also how does it make you feel?

now they are happening all the time. My internist and cardiologist placed me on nanolol and toprol XL. The toprol seemed to work great for two days then did not work. I did have low grade hypertension in the past but I have recently lost 30 pounds and my blood pressure has been ok. I was taking Amoxicillin to treat a cold and the PVC resolved and returned one week after the antibiotic was stopped. Now I am concerned about artery blockage being a cause.

I was put on a beta blocker in 2006 for HTN and increased palpitations. I haven't been dx with hashi just yet, may find out today. I'm on Toporol XL (Metoprolol XL) and it works for me. I think I could have been having sx of hashi in 2006 with a TSH of 4.7 and HTN, but PCP only treated me for HTN. Go figure.

I take the toprol xl and I use the generic and it cost me roughly $20 and I take 125mg twice a day. but you must make sure it is the generic for toprol xl because there is metoprolol succinate which is the generic for toprol xl and metoprolol tartrate which is the generic for lopressor. They both work in two different ways so they can not be interchanged at the same dose. I asked this question before toprol xl became a generic.

My LDL is 223 and before 222. when taking toprol XL 50-75 mg. My cholesterol is 177 when I am not on antihypertensive drugs. Does anyone take NSAID's with their Beta Blocker? I take Toprol XL and it said there is a moderate drug interaction.

My blood pressure runs around 91/60 and my pulse rate at 50 is this to low is this why I might feel sluggish and tired with no energy. I take medicine for tachycardia 50 mg p/day of toprol xl.

My doctor has prescribed me 25 mg Toprol XL for the PVC's (flutters) I get after I eat. After reading the possible side effects, I am a little leary. Does anyone have any advice? Does anyone know what the common side effects are?

Dear Di: I have taken toprol xl for about 12 years and have not had a problem with it.. The XL stands for extended life.. it is not all released at once in your system..So I would say the reason you cant take it just when you have a problem is that your body does not get the full effect immediately.. You have to take it and build it up as I understand it.. dunno not a dr...but thats the way Ive always understood it.. basically its a very safe medication to take... hope this helps.. .

Yes, I know that Toprol XL is the brand name extended release version of metoprolol. However, there is a generic equivalent called metoprolol er, which I assume his doctor gave him. I have read many posts on this forum where users indicate that switching from Toprol XL to metoprolol er still report having problems. The generics are not always as good as the brand name ones.

I then e mailed the makers of toprol xl - and they confirmed toprol xl can cause ringing of the ears as a known side effect. I also checked DIovan and its listed as well - Due to this , I guess the next best thing to do is see my Doctor and complain to get off the medications or switch them. thanks too for info on h.b.p and how it can cause ringing in the ears, when its too high .. I recheck and check my b.p everyday 3 to 4 times daily- when medicatated its down to normal levels.

I am now estimated 6 weeks pregnant, and am having to make the decision about wether or not to come off my meds. I am in the process of weighing my pros and cons, but wonder if any other moms have been on any meds while pregnant. I would appreciate any input.

My EP took me off sotalol-160mg and put me on toprol XL 25mg twice a day in August. The reason for my change in meds was that I had an ablation in January for a-fib and a-flutter and I haven't had any episodes. In February if I stay episode free I go down to 25mg of toprol a day. I do not feel any difference between the sotalol and the toprol.

My pharmacacy switched my "Toprol XL 50 mg" to a Generic one called "Metoprolol Succinate ER 50 mg" (manufactured by Sandoz) in December 2007. I have been on some form of Beta Blockers for years and I thought nothing of it. m @210 (still overweight) and on low dosages of Lisinopril (10mg), Toprol XL (25mg), and a diuretic (37.5). Over the past 4 weeks, I've experienced some morning sluggishness and ED. It's not a sudden onset; I've been very cold some nights at bedtime, had sporatic ED... and I walk 5 miles a day four or more times a week... so up to now, no one has been surprised about a pulse of 60. Sorry I wouldn't quite sure how to title the topic cause it's kind of a broad range question. New doctor has taken me off 100mg Amiodarone and replaced with 25mg toprol XL. I am experiencing dizziness, extreme sensitivity to heat and sunlight, confussion...I have waited a week thinking the side effects would subside. Internet research has led me to believe that the amiodarone can stay in my system for up to ninety days...or is it the beta blocker I am having a bad reactiont to??? Did the amiodarone damage my eyes? My vision has declined substantially over the past two years.

When I made that same switch a few years ago, I went from 100mg Toprol XL once a day to 100mg metoprolol succinate once a day. Neither my doctor nor my pharmacist ever suggested that I would need to split the dose. My understanding is that metoprolol succinate is an extended release formuation that substitutes directly for Toprol XL. But ask your doc or a pharmacist to make sure. I'm off of the drug entirely now, so I don't worry with it anymore.

A prescription for Toprol XL 12.5 mg issued. Should I take it considering it is a beta-blocker and reduces the heart rate?

Also, if I do any kind of activity that early it just pounds out of my chest ,,I do have high bp ,,i take atenolol 50 mg and hctz 25 mg daily ,,,i alos take klonopin .5 , 2 x a day for anxiety...I have noticed this has happened since ive had my son and I had a tubal then i was put on anxiety meds,,but this problem with the heart rate is scary..anyone got any advice?

my ekg tests over the years have been normal and had stress tests done , again normal ? why then toprol xl ?? as I was first on atenenlol and had less problems other than I couldnt sleep well. I was in a hmo plan and now switched to a top rated ppo plan open access type. in hope's for better care and services, as yet sos !! I understand there is a new blood pressure medication approved by the fda with less side effects! but cant remember its name ?

My Cardiologist started me on Toprol XL 50mg daily for hypertension and to lessen the chance of slipping back into uncontrollable Rapid A fib again. At first the Toprol seemed to help and I was taking it at night and besides some drowseyness I was no worse for wear and even joined a gym and could do a full 30 mins of moderate cardio with no I’ll effects. I recently got a new job and this job requires a lot of walking but nothing to crazy straineous.
