There are many success stories of people losing weight on topamax. If you read the side effects, weight loss is one of them. It helps suppress the desire to eat even smoking which I have quit too. I have not experienced any weight loss. I do have weight fluctuations up and down about 8 pounds but I also have a thyroid problem and had a hysterectomy recently. After two weeks of being on Flovent and Albuterol without relief, I am going back to my doctor and tapering off of this drug to see if I can get better.

The reason you were prescribed the medications was mood swings and migraines. Do not take the side effect of topiramate that is weight loss to be the aim in using the medication.
Are your symptoms of migraine and mood swings better after taking the medications?
Carry on regular exercises to help you lose weight and plan your diet schedule accordingly.
Consult your neurologist before you stop taking any medication or even change its dose.

Hi...this is not really all that new, and it is the generic of TOPAMAX...this can take 2 weeks to adjust to....so u may feel extremely tired and off balance with this....
I did lose weight, and not sure how it works, but I gained it all back and I am still on the med....so it is not a weight loss miracle.
I have noticed a change in taste as well as smells...so I know that did affect what I eat....
Good luck and again be advised most do need an adjustment period to this med.
It can have some side effects like loss of appetite and a bit of foggy headedness especially in the beginning but I used to get up to 4 migraines a week and now I might get one every 6 months

I'm a 30 yr old female. My height is 5'2" and I weigh 71 kgs. I have been overweight since I was 14 yrs after I started to get periods but I've had phases of weight loss on and off esp during the time I was in final yr of dental school and during my internship. I've gained seven kgs during the last six yrs although I've been exercising regularly and taking s balanced diet.
However, I do not think the uterus or ovaries produce leptin. Weight gain after hysterectomy is common but I do not know the mechanism. I personally do not have the energy, motivation, vibrancy, love of life I had prior to my hysterectomy so I am not as active. However, I have not gained weight because I do not have an appetite. I have also had diarrhea since my hysterectomy (which was severe for almost a year) so I lost a bit of weight before gaining it back.
As I understand it, Victoza delays gastric emptying thus causing the feeling of fullness and decreased appetite. I actually started on Victoza about 3 months ago. I had to change to Byetta in about 2 weeks (finished Victoza sample and insurance would only pay for Byetta). I developed nausea at the smaller dose of Victoza, and never used the larger dose. The nausea was unchanged with the change of meds.....and I have lost a LOT of weight (29 pounds).

How does Rolaids or tums help with the tingling sensations caused by taking topiramate?
Firstly, it sounds like you have chronic migraines. For this I would see a neurologist who specializes in migraine and get a electroencephalogram or EEG done to confirm it. They can put you on Topamax or another migraine medication like depakote that will prevent you from getting migraines. I would try Topamax (Topiramate is the generic name). It may also make you lose weight but they will probably give you amitriptyline as well which makes you gain weight and increases your appetite.
