I'm day 5 into taking Topiramate 25mg at night for migraine prevention. My migraine is a daily pressure headache at the base of my skull. I have Chiari malformation type 1 but neurosurgeon says I don't need surgery, thankfully. He and my neurologist advised i try Topiramate as Amitriptyline didn't suit me (made me suicidal) and my asthma prevents them trying me on beta blockers.
I take topiramate, trazadone for sleep, and a beta blocker. I also have heart issues, so the beta blocker does double duty, as beta blockers can help migraines.
Vestibular migraines are thought to originate in the ear, so you might need to add something like ativan, an antihistamine, phergan, etc., for dizziness.
I wish I could tell you that your journey will be easy, and that find a treatment that works will be smooth. It probably won't.
How does Rolaids or tums help with the tingling sensations caused by taking topiramate?
I am currently on Keppra and Topiramate and have just been told my latest tests are showing major kidney damage from the topiramate. I have been on these two meds since 2002. I have to admit, reading all this is very scary. NO Other Meds have worked to control my seizures ! PERIOD!! Plus I have severe Migraines and Short term memory is almost gone in a matter of seconds. What is a girl to do?

You can call the pharmacist who filled your prescription. Often they are better able to answer these types of questions than your doctor because they have access to all the databases available that contain information about drug interactions and so on. I started suffering from cluster headaches after coming off brith control so I got prescribed topiramate and at the beginning, it was fine. But around the second week when I started taking 50 mg, I got a yeast infection, which was treated. Now I have the worst case of vaginal dryness which makes sex painful and causes friction and sometimes bleeding. I don’t have the normal amount of lubrication I have down there, in fact I am completely dry which is very abnormal for me.
I take 150 mg of topiramate for cronic cluster headaches every night. Sometimes this causes me to have wake up with pain/tingling in my feet as a side effect. I find relief from this pain by using a "hidow" electronic massager that uses electricity on the bottoms of my feet. I'm not sure if that is relevant but that's what I had just started using when the pain in my feet was so intense.
I was going to a neurologist that specialized in migraines and she gave me Topiramate which totally took away the vertigo and double vision. I get a very slight bit but not the kind that knocks you over now and only a few seconds. I was also told to go to an ENT to rule out Meniers disease and they checked my hearing and looked in my ear and did a CT to rule out a tumor behind the ear called acoustic neuroma. They were all negative. If positive for the Meniers they give you water pills.
He has recently given me numerous trial medication to see if my current state and headaches would improve including apo-acetazolamide (250 mg) and ratio-topiramate (25mg). With acetazolamide not working, and topiramate worsening my state. After being on topiramate for 3 days, I had a general feeling of confusion, disorientation, trouble with my memory, and trouble concentrating.
I am not sure if anyone can help me out with this but I have a friend that is on Topamax (Topiramate) for seizures and she just found out she is 7 weeks pregnant. She had been pregnant before but had a miscarriage. She is very scared because she can’t find any information on this medication to tell her if or if not this medication will hurt the baby. She has seen the OB/GYN and they told her they are not sure and she needs to speak with her Neurologists.
However, I was diagnosed with silent migraine or migraine equivalent by my neuro. I was given Topiramate and Maxalt. The Maxalt did absolutely nothing and the Topiramate put me through two weeks of constant dizziness and vertigo not to mention a couple of panic attacks. I quit the Topiramate and had severe withdrawal symptoms that put me in the E.R. Blood work, urinalysis, chest xray, and head CT w/out contrast all checked out fine.
Hi...this is not really all that new, and it is the generic of TOPAMAX...this can take 2 weeks to adjust to....so u may feel extremely tired and off balance with this....
I did lose weight, and not sure how it works, but I gained it all back and I am still on the med....so it is not a weight loss miracle.
I have noticed a change in taste as well as smells...so I know that did affect what I eat....
Good luck and again be advised most do need an adjustment period to this med.
Topamax (Topiramate) is not a weight loss medication; I'm surprised you'd find a doctor to prescribe it for that. I take it daily, for peripheral neuropathy. I've been on it for about 2 yrs and it's done nothing to help with weight loss. Of course, the dosage has a lot to do with it... what dosage are you on?

I was diagnosed with ACM 3mm according to the MRI about 5 years ago. I've had migraines all my life, but I started having numbness/tingling on my left side. Started in my face then arm then leg within a few days, they ordered the MRI and found the ACM. I have been having worsening symptoms over the years, left side feels heavy, dropping things, and worsening headaches.
I had my first migraine when I was 12 and they became chronic and literally everyday after two car accidents. (Rear end and head on). I am soon going to b getting my nerves on my c3-6 burned to help with the headaches and neck pain. I'm only 23 yrs old. I had to quit my career (cosmetologist) I loved it and right before my migrianes randomly became daily I had an offer to become a redken color artist and do hair in big time hair shows up on stage with many famous hairstylist.
I use ice and fiornal to control pain. sleep with ice packs on my neck. can this raise my blood pressure? it is high worse it gets so don't like the fact they just want to tell me to take bp med when a lot of time is is normal. can this pressure pinching pain be causing the high BP? thank you if anyone answers.
I have been having them since I was born I been on meds off an then on. I been on meds you take when you start to feel one but can't take them cause when I have a headache coming up I can't take mint stuff. An now I'm on topiramate 25 mg. I take 2 pills sid before bed time. They work really good at one time but now just not working. I'm 19 an I cant take the headaches an being sick an not knowing when one will come. Now what am I to .
I have chronic migraine so I have been on topiramate several times but every time I got on I remembered how awful the side effects were and why I decided to go off in the first place, (besides it did absolutely nothing to help my migraines) and I lost A LOT of hair too. it would seriously come out in clumps in the shower, we would have to vacuum every day because there would be so much hair on the carpet. I looked it up online and found many others losing their hair from Topamax.
My 15 year old daughter was started on topiramate for migraines, 25mg at bedtime. She has only taken 2 doses and is already complaining of feeling like she is in a "fog", is having trouble recalling names and certain words, and feels like her brain is moving very slowly. Her pupils are also dilated. Her doctor said that these are "normal" side effects and "should" go away in a few weeks.
