Common Questions and Answers about Topiramate side effects with alcohol

topamax

1415174 tn?1453243103 Hi, I understand your concern regarding this and like any other medications, side effects may or may not occur depending on the patient as well as if there are drug interactions with patient's present medicine. Topiramate extended-release capsules may cause drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, trouble concentrating, or vision changes. But may be worse if it is taken with alcohol or certain medicines. It is best that you check with your doctor for proper management. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn I didn't "jump to conclusions without doing research"... as I noted, I've been taking topamax (topiramate) for a couple of years and I've looked at the side effects more than once. I'm well aware that weight loss is a side effect and many people who use it for other things do lose weight on it; however, it's not "often" actually given, solely as a weight loss aid, due to other possible adverse side effects, such as loss of eye sight as well as others.
1230912 tn?1273492770 Now she put me on Topiramate and while some of the side effects scare me I really want to get rid of these headaches! I am on 1 pill every night for a week, then 1 pill twice a day - I have to work my way up to 2 tablets twice a day for the full effect and she said that it can take up to a month for it to start working effectively. Does anyone else have any luck on this medication? Anyone having the horrible side effects on it (that pretty much mimic MS symptoms?) Anyone losing weight on it?
1104710 tn?1258034139 Populations that have been studied include patients with uncomplicated obesity, patients with weight gain associated with psychotropic drugs, patients with binge eating disorder, and migraine patients. Unfortunately, a relatively high frequency of adverse events has been reported with topiramate. Adverse events have included parasthesias, memory impairment, taste distortion, fatigue, insomnia, difficulty concentrating, and dizziness.
5268376 tn?1406179712 I looked at Zithromax side effects, they vary by the dosage, single or multiple doses, doses in combination with another drug, and are listed as pre-marketing trials and post-marketing reports. Rhythm issues were reported less than 1% of the time in pre-marketing trials, and also in post-marketing reports. Post marketing reports are apparently voluntary and often include things clearly not related to the drug.
Avatar n tn the problem with us having BP that if we substitute one med for another is only to alter the side effects to another set of side effects. I can't remember one drug with no side effects. As to the valproate it gives weight gain and sorry but it's known to cause ovarian cyst which can be unwanted for girls. As to Topamax i don't know.
Avatar f tn I know this question is old but Topiramate only effects estrogen based birth controls ( and it can effect them greatly, I wouldn’t trust your dr who put you on them...they should know better). You need to be on a progesterone based birth control, like the ‘mini-pill’, an iud, the shot, or an implant. These won’t be effected! I’m on trokendi (Topiramate) and am having to find a new form of bc now because it’s messing with my pills!
Avatar m tn There are many side effects that can occur with topiramate. You should be seen by an Eye MD ophthalmologist and discuss with your neurologist.
Avatar n tn t tolerate any alcohol with metroidazole, others tolerate a little. If you have a normally sensitive stomach, you should use regular toothpaste for the time being.
Avatar f tn t take it (for migraines) b/c of all the horrible side effects. Unfortunately, its not supposed to be taken with pregnancy but she probably won't konw what happens until the baby is due. But if it helped allieveate her seizures, maybe it is for the best while pregnant that she has been on it... sorry i can't be of more help.
Avatar f tn Ive taken this for about a year now and its been SUCH a lifesaver. It prevents migraines.
Avatar f tn I had my first migraine when I was 12 and they became chronic and literally everyday after two car accidents. (Rear end and head on). I am soon going to b getting my nerves on my c3-6 burned to help with the headaches and neck pain. I'm only 23 yrs old. I had to quit my career (cosmetologist) I loved it and right before my migrianes randomly became daily I had an offer to become a redken color artist and do hair in big time hair shows up on stage with many famous hairstylist.
Avatar f tn But, now the eye shaking and the increased pressure is scaring me. Is this likely side effects from the Topiramate? I have also noticed that when my eye is shaking that sometimes I also feel a shaking sensation in the back of my head, like almost like my brain is shaking just in the back near the neck. Sound weird? Hard to explain. It's not the same sensation I feel with vertigo. I can't get an appt w/the eye dr until next month...they are booked.
2030686 tn?1351688548 If you are careful not to touch the needle it is sterile, if you touch it with something like an alcohol swab, it is less sterile. Alcohol swabs are good at cleaning surface dirt, but not so much for sterility, that is why it is not used for sterility in hospitals. In paramedic school, they taught us that the only germs that alcohol kills are the ones that cannot swim...
Avatar f tn s leaving it up to you to decide which one to take, but anyway..You will most likely lose weight with Topamax. However, the cognitive side effects are sometimes worse with this drug, i.e. memory, concentration, "word-finding". To be honest, Lamictal had those cognitive effects for me, though most people don't report that effect with Lamotrigine. Topamax more effectively treats temporal lobe epilepsy. What kind of seizures do you have?
Avatar m tn He prescribed me Topiramate(used to treat seizures, but helps with migraines) the side effects are really crazy with this med, so I have been too scared to take it. Anyone have any experience with this?
Avatar m tn I have chronic migraine so I have been on topiramate several times but every time I got on I remembered how awful the side effects were and why I decided to go off in the first place, (besides it did absolutely nothing to help my migraines) and I lost A LOT of hair too. it would seriously come out in clumps in the shower, we would have to vacuum every day because there would be so much hair on the carpet. I looked it up online and found many others losing their hair from Topamax.
Avatar m tn My neurologist switched me to Topomax for something else, and told me I would drop the 10 lb I'd put on. Instead it revved up my brain and made me manic. I was unable to keep doing the job I was doing and resigned, not realizing it was the drug causing me to be so anxious and hyper. It was a really good job except for one manager, who was nuts, and all I could focus on was that person.
Avatar n tn I too am on 175 - 200mg of Zoloft and I admit when first starting the medication I was feeling quite dizzy and nauseated. Dosage started at 50mg, then after a week increased, and every week increased until I reached 175mg. In the past my doctor has had me on Celexa and Effexor but Zoloft seems to work the best, for me that is. Everyone is different. I waver between 175 - 200mg depending on the kind of day I'm having.
Avatar f tn My friend just quit taking Chantix due to the inability to handle the side effects. She has noticed that since quitting the Chantix alcohol has effected her differently. While on the Chantix she noticed the effects of alcohol tokk in quite quickly where now she seems to have a tolerance that was not there before. Is it possible that theh Chantix caused her intolerabilty to alcohol?
1714202 tn?1352672419 m on lamictal, abilify, and ativan. Does anyone know the interactions mixing those with alcohol? Any help would be great thanks!
