Topiramate side effects medication

Common Questions and Answers about Topiramate side effects medication

topamax

Avatar f tn I also take Topiramate (Topamax). Your side-effects are very similar to what I experienced when I started the medication. But, as Selma wrote, there is an adjustment period. It took me two or three weeks to adjust and things got better. When my Neuro increased the dosage the side effects did not seem to be as drastic. Now, three years on the med, I have very few side effects. Those that I do experience are tolerable in comparison to the migraine.
1230912 tn?1273492770 Does anyone else have any luck on this medication? Anyone having the horrible side effects on it (that pretty much mimic MS symptoms?) Anyone losing weight on it? - This is one of the bonus side effects and actually prescibed off label for weight loss (the only thing I am hoping for besides it getting rid of the headaches!) Thanks for any help gang!
Avatar n tn the problem with us having BP that if we substitute one med for another is only to alter the side effects to another set of side effects. I can't remember one drug with no side effects. As to the valproate it gives weight gain and sorry but it's known to cause ovarian cyst which can be unwanted for girls. As to Topamax i don't know.
1104710 tn?1258034139 ok ok , I started topiramate for 2 moths now, the first month the cravings was less, and after a month the doc, change the dosage, now I'm on 50 twice a day, I don't think its working. I haven't lost any weight, does this meds take time?? Should I been seeing result ? am I wasting my time? I really haven't been experiencing the side effects, little bit at first, but nothing to cry about. If anybody have any advice please any is helpful!
Avatar f tn I forgot to note that this medication is the one that works best for her seizures that she has not had a problem with.
Avatar f tn Ive taken this for about a year now and its been SUCH a lifesaver. It prevents migraines.
Avatar m tn Migraine may present with throbbing headaches with associated symptoms like nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light and sound. Topamax or topiramate is a seizure medication, which is also used to prevent migraine headaches in adults. However, it will only prevent migraine headaches or reduce the number of attacks and will not treat a headache that has already begun. Celebrex or celecoxib, on the other hand, is used to treat pain or inflammation including headaches.
Avatar f tn I know this question is old but Topiramate only effects estrogen based birth controls ( and it can effect them greatly, I wouldn’t trust your dr who put you on them...they should know better). You need to be on a progesterone based birth control, like the ‘mini-pill’, an iud, the shot, or an implant. These won’t be effected! I’m on trokendi (Topiramate) and am having to find a new form of bc now because it’s messing with my pills!
Avatar f tn I have done some research on these two medications mainly on there side effects. A decision will be made on this once I have been to have an EEG.
Avatar n tn I didn't "jump to conclusions without doing research"... as I noted, I've been taking topamax (topiramate) for a couple of years and I've looked at the side effects more than once. I'm well aware that weight loss is a side effect and many people who use it for other things do lose weight on it; however, it's not "often" actually given, solely as a weight loss aid, due to other possible adverse side effects, such as loss of eye sight as well as others.
5268376 tn?1406179712 I looked at Zithromax side effects, they vary by the dosage, single or multiple doses, doses in combination with another drug, and are listed as pre-marketing trials and post-marketing reports. Rhythm issues were reported less than 1% of the time in pre-marketing trials, and also in post-marketing reports. Post marketing reports are apparently voluntary and often include things clearly not related to the drug.
1415174 tn?1453243103 Hi, I understand your concern regarding this and like any other medications, side effects may or may not occur depending on the patient as well as if there are drug interactions with patient's present medicine. Topiramate extended-release capsules may cause drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, trouble concentrating, or vision changes. But may be worse if it is taken with alcohol or certain medicines. It is best that you check with your doctor for proper management. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn My neurologist switched me to Topomax for something else, and told me I would drop the 10 lb I'd put on. Instead it revved up my brain and made me manic. I was unable to keep doing the job I was doing and resigned, not realizing it was the drug causing me to be so anxious and hyper. It was a really good job except for one manager, who was nuts, and all I could focus on was that person.
Avatar f tn Topamax is a crapshoot with pain and the medication can have some nasty effects that don't always decrease with time. It's one of those meds that you just won't know if it works until you try it. The dose should be slowly increased to avoid side effects that will make you stop taking it before you reach a therapeutic level and know whether or not it works for you. Topamax did nothing for my pain and I was one of the few people who had one of the more bizarre side effects.
Avatar m tn There are many side effects that can occur with topiramate. You should be seen by an Eye MD ophthalmologist and discuss with your neurologist.
Avatar f tn t know about the side effects. I think I would rather have a migraine than deal with the wierd side effects that I am having. I go in this Friday to have my PFO closed. I have heard that this can get rid of headaches completely. I am praying that that is what is in it for me. I am having it done as stroke prevention as it has not been approved for migraine at this time.
Avatar f tn But, now the eye shaking and the increased pressure is scaring me. Is this likely side effects from the Topiramate? I have also noticed that when my eye is shaking that sometimes I also feel a shaking sensation in the back of my head, like almost like my brain is shaking just in the back near the neck. Sound weird? Hard to explain. It's not the same sensation I feel with vertigo. I can't get an appt w/the eye dr until next month...they are booked.
1457748 tn?1317575165 Just for info, she is also on topomax...just curious if you have any thoughts on it. WHat sort of side effects have you folks had? my daughter is still suffering with a spinal headache from her tap, but I wonder if this medication is contributing at all...sorry I am all over the place here, but if you can shed a light on this for me I would appreciate it. Not fair that Doc no longer do their job for patients! THanks guys!
