topiramate or topamax

I have just been to see the neurologist and she has supplied me the names of these two medications Lamotrigine or topiramate, which i am to decide which one to use. I have done some research on these two medications mainly on there side effects. A decision will be made on this once I have been to have an EEG.

I am not sure if anyone can help me out with this but I have a friend that is on Topamax (Topiramate) for seizures and she just found out she is 7 weeks pregnant. She had been pregnant before but had a miscarriage. She is very scared because she can’t find any information on this medication to tell her if or if not this medication will hurt the baby. She has seen the OB/GYN and they told her they are not sure and she needs to speak with her Neurologists.

Has anyone tried extended release Topamax or Topiramate? It is called Trokedi XR. I am going to try it because my memory is so bad on Topamax. My neurologist said it might be better with Trokedi XR but it is very expensive. So if you can tell me before I buy it I would appreciate any feedback.

Topamax (Topiramate) is not a weight loss medication; I'm surprised you'd find a doctor to prescribe it for that. I take it daily, for peripheral neuropathy. I've been on it for about 2 yrs and it's done nothing to help with weight loss. Of course, the dosage has a lot to do with it... what dosage are you on?

Hi, From my previous posts...I was injured in a rocket explosion in Baghdad 4 months ago. I was knocked out for a few seconds and suffered a head concussion. Since coming back home, I started to have migraine like headaches along with other post mTBI symptoms (dizziness, cognative problems, etc). Anyway, my neurologist is treating me currently with 25mg Nortriptyline and 25mg Topamax at night. They have helped (more so the Topamax).

Anyone on this medication? I was diagnosed with cluster headaches when I was 15 and after being on every kind of muscle relaxer under the sun with them not working I gave up and learned to deal with the headaches. Ever since I was put on Extavia I have been having horrible headaches and I really don't know if the DMD is the cause of the worsening or not but ibuprofen was not cutting it anymore.

d topiramate or TOPAMAX and what I was not told when I started it, is there is a good 2 week adjustment period where you will have over whelming fatigue, fog and other odd symptoms even more headaches then what was "normal" for me.....I was never able to increase this dosage from the first one which was half a dose......but I did see when I stopped the med just how it was really helping even tho I did not realize it at the time I was burdened with the side effects.

I have chronic migraine so I have been on topiramate several times but every time I got on I remembered how awful the side effects were and why I decided to go off in the first place, (besides it did absolutely nothing to help my migraines) and I lost A LOT of hair too. it would seriously come out in clumps in the shower, we would have to vacuum every day because there would be so much hair on the carpet. I looked it up online and found many others losing their hair from Topamax.

Other relevant drugs are naproxen, anaprox, naprelan, ibuprofen, advil, motrin nuprin, pedia care, non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs etc. topiramate or topamax is indicated as a preventive medicine in migraine headaches. So let your physician prescribe you any of the above medicines, while you could have one of the over the counter analgesics. Take care.

I am currently taking sertraline for mood swings and have been taking it for about 5 years. I also have recently been put on topamax for migraines. I have read about all this wonderful weight loss. If anything I have gained. Could these 2 medicines together be holding me back from losing> I would like to go off of the sertraline.

I coughed myself awake this morning, which scared the heck out of me. And now my husband tells me that I've been coughing in my sleep since my NL started me on topamax. Current list of meds Topiramate (topamax) 50mg 1 tablet 2 times daily, Amitriptyline 100mg 1 tablet at bedtime, Cyclobenzaprine (flexeril) 10mg 1 tablet at bedtime, and Butalbital/APAP/Caffeine (fioricet) 1 tablet to 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours as needed. And my ENT has me on Diazepam 2mg 1 tablet 3 times daily.

anyways the questions I am trying to ask is. Do I need to get off of Topamax NOW before trying to conceive or do I stay on it until I find out I am pregnant and then figure out what to do from there regarding my migraines? thank you!

If you can fix your problem by a more natural mean (such as yoga) go for it. Or a more innocent pill. Topamax is waaay too toxic. Hell, Topamax is so toxic, it changed the way Coke tastes for me. You could try Neurobex if you have that around you.
