Populations that have been studied include patients with uncomplicated obesity, patients with weight gain associated with psychotropic drugs, patients with binge eating disorder, and migraine patients. Unfortunately, a relatively high frequency of adverse events has been reported with topiramate.

1415174 tn?1453243103 Has anyone tried extended release Topamax or Topiramate? It is called Trokedi XR. I am going to try it because my memory is so bad on Topamax. My neurologist said it might be better with Trokedi XR but it is very expensive. So if you can tell me before I buy it I would appreciate any feedback.
Avatar n tn I am currently on Keppra and Topiramate and have just been told my latest tests are showing major kidney damage from the topiramate. I have been on these two meds since 2002. I have to admit, reading all this is very scary. NO Other Meds have worked to control my seizures ! PERIOD!! Plus I have severe Migraines and Short term memory is almost gone in a matter of seconds. What is a girl to do? Signed.... Tami....
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed in 2002 with seizures but all the professionals that have seen me still cannot tell me what kinds, I have tons of MRI's, eegs, ekgs, Cardio grams, and more and still they have all come back normal. To this day I am on topiramate twice a day to control whatever spells happen. Just last year I was driving at 3:20am in the morning and I had tunnel vision because I was having an attack, it started off with the sharp pains in my head, tremors, and so on.
Avatar n tn He has recently given me numerous trial medication to see if my current state and headaches would improve including apo-acetazolamide (250 mg) and ratio-topiramate (25mg). With acetazolamide not working, and topiramate worsening my state. After being on topiramate for 3 days, I had a general feeling of confusion, disorientation, trouble with my memory, and trouble concentrating.
Avatar n tn Just getting off the gaba, caused an immediate 10 lb loss... He started me out at 50 mg Topiramate (25 in the morning and 25 at night), but it wasn't nearly enough, so within a couple months, he increased the dosage to 100 mg (50 morning and 50 at night). That helped for a while, but within a few months, it was no longer enough, so he increased my dosage to 200 mg (100 morning and 100 at night)... I can't get, either, my pcp or neuro to go any higher...
Avatar f tn It can have some side effects like loss of appetite and a bit of foggy headedness especially in the beginning but I used to get up to 4 migraines a week and now I might get one every 6 months
Avatar f tn He was taken off a few years back because of the memory loss. He has great long-term memory but cannot remember what he had for dinner an hour before. When he was one, he had his first “episode.” Initially, it was thought to be epilepsy. After some testing and monitoring, that was ruled out and then diagnosed with migraines. Being a migraine sufferer myself, I doubt that that is his condition. He wakes up okay and a couple of hours into his day, he loses his “battery” charge.
Avatar f tn I'm day 5 into taking Topiramate 25mg at night for migraine prevention. My migraine is a daily pressure headache at the base of my skull. I have Chiari malformation type 1 but neurosurgeon says I don't need surgery, thankfully. He and my neurologist advised i try Topiramate as Amitriptyline didn't suit me (made me suicidal) and my asthma prevents them trying me on beta blockers.
Avatar m tn I want too if someone can plz answer TOPAMAX TABLETS IS IT THE SAME AS TOPIRAMATE BECAUSE I AM IN EUROPE AND THIS IS THE ONLY BRAND AND UNDER THIS NAME HERE AND WILL IT HELP ME WITH WEIGHT LOSS
Avatar m tn Topiramate has some minor side effects of headaches confusion and memory loss. However, you have noted that her symptoms have been present even before topiramate use. Prozac may explain the tinntus however, this is a very rare side effect of the drug. Some physicians may opt stopping the drug for a few days to see if the unwanted symptoms disappear with the cessation of the medications. Postmenopausal state. The hot flushes and headaches may be explained by this.
Avatar f tn Hi, The reason you were prescribed the medications was mood swings and migraines. Do not take the side effect of topiramate that is weight loss to be the aim in using the medication. Are your symptoms of migraine and mood swings better after taking the medications? Carry on regular exercises to help you lose weight and plan your diet schedule accordingly. Consult your neurologist before you stop taking any medication or even change its dose. Let us know if you have any doubts.

562833 tn?1233756109 Does anyone or has anyone experienced memory loss over pain killers. I feel I am losing my mind half the time. I can't remember what I was about to do, or what I need to do. I tend to worry about everything and keep stressing about it.
Avatar m tn re in an alcohol/substance related group - memory loss can be associated with drinking. It can be associated with many other things, too - from different medications, mental or cognitive health conditions, and even sometimes stress. I think it is very important that you speak to a doctor who can survey your health & lifestyle profile to work with what is known - and other factors that may not be known.
