I did experience a little joint pain in the elbows and wrists when I jumped to a higher dose. The pins and needle sensations came stronger and more often as well. In my feet it felt like bee stings, ouch. I did some digging online and found in the clinical trails potassium helped with the tingling so I tried that. I started out by just trying to add potassium rich foods to my diet and saw a difference on those days.
Sometimes this causes me to have wake up with pain/tingling in my feet as a side effect. I find relief from this pain by using a "hidow" electronic massager that uses electricity on the bottoms of my feet. I'm not sure if that is relevant but that's what I had just started using when the pain in my feet was so intense.
Ive taken this for about a year now and its been SUCH a lifesaver. It prevents migraines.

I am currently on Keppra and Topiramate and have just been told my latest tests are showing major kidney damage from the topiramate. I have been on these two meds since 2002. I have to admit, reading all this is very scary. NO Other Meds have worked to control my seizures ! PERIOD!! Plus I have severe Migraines and Short term memory is almost gone in a matter of seconds. What is a girl to do?

You can call the pharmacist who filled your prescription. Often they are better able to answer these types of questions than your doctor because they have access to all the databases available that contain information about drug interactions and so on. They are also much easier to get a hold of than most doctors.
I'm day 5 into taking Topiramate 25mg at night for migraine prevention. My migraine is a daily pressure headache at the base of my skull. I have Chiari malformation type 1 but neurosurgeon says I don't need surgery, thankfully. He and my neurologist advised i try Topiramate as Amitriptyline didn't suit me (made me suicidal) and my asthma prevents them trying me on beta blockers.
I had my first migraine when I was 12 and they became chronic and literally everyday after two car accidents. (Rear end and head on). I am soon going to b getting my nerves on my c3-6 burned to help with the headaches and neck pain. I'm only 23 yrs old. I had to quit my career (cosmetologist) I loved it and right before my migrianes randomly became daily I had an offer to become a redken color artist and do hair in big time hair shows up on stage with many famous hairstylist.
It is good that the tests done were fine. Possible differential of temple with jaw pain is Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) headaches which usually presents with a muscle-contraction type of pain. A referral to your dentist may rule this out. Numbness you felt at the time of childbirth may be caused by medication or from neurological causes. Malocclusion or poor bite, stress, and jaw clenching should also be checked. Hang on and do keep us posted. Take care always.
Topamax (Topiramate) is not a weight loss medication; I'm surprised you'd find a doctor to prescribe it for that. I take it daily, for peripheral neuropathy. I've been on it for about 2 yrs and it's done nothing to help with weight loss. Of course, the dosage has a lot to do with it... what dosage are you on?
I was going to a neurologist that specialized in migraines and she gave me Topiramate which totally took away the vertigo and double vision. I get a very slight bit but not the kind that knocks you over now and only a few seconds. I was also told to go to an ENT to rule out Meniers disease and they checked my hearing and looked in my ear and did a CT to rule out a tumor behind the ear called acoustic neuroma. They were all negative. If positive for the Meniers they give you water pills.
He has recently given me numerous trial medication to see if my current state and headaches would improve including apo-acetazolamide (250 mg) and ratio-topiramate (25mg). With acetazolamide not working, and topiramate worsening my state. After being on topiramate for 3 days, I had a general feeling of confusion, disorientation, trouble with my memory, and trouble concentrating.

I started at 100mg and had increases over time. I also began to have terrible lower back pain and eventually joint pain to the point that it would take me a minute to actually stand up straight in the morning. It would take several minutes for my fingers to flex. My doctor gave my generic vicodin and referred me to a rheumatologist. He told me I had fibromyalgia. I was so angry, because I knew that that was not what I had!!!
I am not sure if anyone can help me out with this but I have a friend that is on Topamax (Topiramate) for seizures and she just found out she is 7 weeks pregnant. She had been pregnant before but had a miscarriage. She is very scared because she can’t find any information on this medication to tell her if or if not this medication will hurt the baby. She has seen the OB/GYN and they told her they are not sure and she needs to speak with her Neurologists.
Before preventatives I was having 1-2 per DAY. Some were so bad I prayed I would just pass out so the pain would go away. I'll do almost anything NOT to go back to that.
So my question is....is it normal for side effects to appear after a few days with Topamax? Does Topamax take time to "enter your system"...kinda like the anti-depressents?
However, I was diagnosed with silent migraine or migraine equivalent by my neuro. I was given Topiramate and Maxalt. The Maxalt did absolutely nothing and the Topiramate put me through two weeks of constant dizziness and vertigo not to mention a couple of panic attacks. I quit the Topiramate and had severe withdrawal symptoms that put me in the E.R. Blood work, urinalysis, chest xray, and head CT w/out contrast all checked out fine.
125mcg levythyroxin( for hypothyroidism), 150 mg Trazedone (to help me sleep), 50 mg topiramate 2x per day (to prevent my almost daily migraines - only have been on this treatment for a month now), (& when needed 40mg relpax for my breakthrough migraines).
Have recently begun seeing tracers upon waking up. Triple vision of things and tracers. Iam a life long sufferer of migraines. I have been in and out of hospitals for my migraines.
