Avatar n tn How does Rolaids or tums help with the tingling sensations caused by taking topiramate?

Avatar n tn I am currently on Keppra and Topiramate and have just been told my latest tests are showing major kidney damage from the topiramate. I have been on these two meds since 2002. I have to admit, reading all this is very scary. NO Other Meds have worked to control my seizures ! PERIOD!! Plus I have severe Migraines and Short term memory is almost gone in a matter of seconds. What is a girl to do? Signed.... Tami....
Avatar f tn She gave me Junel 1/20, which are three weeks of small yellow pills and one week off so I can get my period. I was reading in all the little information attached with the pills that my medication for my seizures (Trokendi XR) may cause the Birth Control to break down and lose its ability to take effect. I have tried calling my doctor's office all week with no answer. I am now taking the 5th pill and still no response.
Avatar f tn Hi, I've been on topiramate since August for migraine prevention. I have had a chronic cough since about the time I went on it and have had cold symptoms ever since. I am now on asthma inhalers. I take 100 mg twice daily. I came here to see if anyone else is having those issues. I have found since August, my mouth has been very dry. My appetite is decreased.
Avatar f tn The doctor treating me in the hospital recommended my new doctor to refer me to a neurologist abt my too frequent/debilitating migraines(which he in fact seen personally all the days I was in the hospital for my pneumonia.. because most of the "cocktails" and prescriptions he wrote didnt work on them)however I am moving in 2 weeks to FT Campbell, KY .. so I asked if he could just first start this treatment of the preventative ..
1415174 tn?1453243103 Has anyone tried extended release Topamax or Topiramate? It is called Trokedi XR. I am going to try it because my memory is so bad on Topamax. My neurologist said it might be better with Trokedi XR but it is very expensive. So if you can tell me before I buy it I would appreciate any feedback.
Avatar m tn I take 150 mg of topiramate for cronic cluster headaches every night. Sometimes this causes me to have wake up with pain/tingling in my feet as a side effect. I find relief from this pain by using a "hidow" electronic massager that uses electricity on the bottoms of my feet. I'm not sure if that is relevant but that's what I had just started using when the pain in my feet was so intense.
Avatar n tn He has recently given me numerous trial medication to see if my current state and headaches would improve including apo-acetazolamide (250 mg) and ratio-topiramate (25mg). With acetazolamide not working, and topiramate worsening my state. After being on topiramate for 3 days, I had a general feeling of confusion, disorientation, trouble with my memory, and trouble concentrating.
Avatar m tn I was going to a neurologist that specialized in migraines and she gave me Topiramate which totally took away the vertigo and double vision. I get a very slight bit but not the kind that knocks you over now and only a few seconds. I was also told to go to an ENT to rule out Meniers disease and they checked my hearing and looked in my ear and did a CT to rule out a tumor behind the ear called acoustic neuroma. They were all negative. If positive for the Meniers they give you water pills.
649848 tn?1534633700 t work to one I was on a couple of years ago that did work (Topiramate), but my neurologist at the time, wanted me off. Topiramate also helped keep my weight in check. Within a month of going off it in 2019, I'd gained approximately 20 lbs and of course, even more since then. I'd asked for follow up blood work to recheck the parameters that were out of range, but those were not ordered. He has ordered them for my next visit, which will be in January.
Avatar n tn Bel: There's nothing in this report to suggest that this drug would be useful in the treatment of HCV. I assume that if it held potential, it would be tested for this.
Avatar f tn This indicates that caution is advised, but the benefits of the medication may outweigh the potential risks. There have not been enough well-controlled studies in women, but studies in animals have shown some harm to the fetus. The babies of women taking seizure medicines have a greater than usual number of major birth defects like cleft lip, cleft palate, and heart malformations. Defects like these occur in 2-3% of all pregnancies but affect 4-7% of the babies of women taking AEDs.
Avatar f tn It can have some side effects like loss of appetite and a bit of foggy headedness especially in the beginning but I used to get up to 4 migraines a week and now I might get one every 6 months
Avatar f tn [1][2][3] Generic versions are available in Canada and were FDA approved in September 2006. Mylan Pharmaceuticals was recently granted final approval for generic topiramate 25, 100, and 200 mg tablets and sprinkle capsules by the FDA for sale in the US. 50 mg tablets were granted tentative approval. [4] The only patent left for topiramate in the U.S. is for pediatric use; this patent will expire on February 28, 2009.
Avatar m tn I quit the Topiramate and had severe withdrawal symptoms that put me in the E.R. Blood work, urinalysis, chest xray, and head CT w/out contrast all checked out fine. I then had a follow up with the neuro who looked extremely puzzled. I told him that I think that anxiety may be the root of my problems. Was it right for me to tell him this? Is it possible for worry and anxiety to really mess someone up this bad? He gave me free Lexapro but I refuse to take it.
Avatar n tn Just getting off the gaba, caused an immediate 10 lb loss... He started me out at 50 mg Topiramate (25 in the morning and 25 at night), but it wasn't nearly enough, so within a couple months, he increased the dosage to 100 mg (50 morning and 50 at night). That helped for a while, but within a few months, it was no longer enough, so he increased my dosage to 200 mg (100 morning and 100 at night)... I can't get, either, my pcp or neuro to go any higher...
Avatar f tn Also, when a treatment gets approved in the States, it takes some time for it to be approved in Canada as we are behind the U.S.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have any names of docs in Canada who deal with AD. We were vacationing in Australia, both got bit by jellyfish. I had AD for 3 months and it went away. He still has it after 2 years. He was healthy, young 35 yr old with no health issues. It's crazy, I could make a movie out of our experience. Any help is appreciated.
Avatar f tn She used it for almost 10 years at 100mg max for 50% of that time. She was tirated off of it in December 2014 and she had no change in symptoms. She has had better success with a treatment called EEG Neurofeedback. If you need to use a drug ask your Doctor if you can try a drug called Maxalt or similar drug (it is relatively costly though). EEG Neurofeedback is non invasive and one can sometimes see changes within a few visits.
Avatar m tn At this point of time he is not able to speak more than two words in a row. His Hb is 8.9. He is on valporate, topiramate and levetiracetam. His MRI scan revealed "Assymetric Right Temporal Horn prominence without any difinite evidence of mesial scerosis" His walking pattern is also erratic. Most often he adopts "Toe Walking". When he walks slowly, which is rare, he walks alright. Always he tries to rush up and runs in an imbalancing manner.
Avatar m tn I have chronic migraine so I have been on topiramate several times but every time I got on I remembered how awful the side effects were and why I decided to go off in the first place, (besides it did absolutely nothing to help my migraines) and I lost A LOT of hair too. it would seriously come out in clumps in the shower, we would have to vacuum every day because there would be so much hair on the carpet. I looked it up online and found many others losing their hair from Topamax.
