Avatar f tn It is recommended that children treated with topiramate should be monitored closely for evidence of decreased sweating and increased body temperature, especially in hot weather. All patients, particularly those with other predisposing factors, should be instructed to maintain an adequate fluid intake in order to minimize the risk of kidney stone formation.
Avatar m tn My doctor said its not a listed side effect and it was most likely from depression but I KNOW it was the Topamax. ive been off for almost 2 years now and still have hair come out but not nearly as bad as before. I cant take biotin because it makes my hair and skin super oily and greasy and gives me REALLY bad acne. so I have just been dealing with it, I'm sorry but it will take time, it will grow back though I promise. 3 months isn't enough time.
Avatar f tn [4] The only patent left for topiramate in the U.S. is for pediatric use; this patent will expire on February 28, 2009. The drug is also used in clinical trials to treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.[15] A pilot study suggests that Topiramate is possibly effective against infantile spasms.[16] A study by Harvard recommends topiramate as an effective treatment in the prevention of Periventricular leukomalacia in preterm infants after an hypoxic-ischemic injury.[17] In May 2006 the U.S.
1230912 tn?1273492770 I was on Topamax for a short period of time for migraine preventive. It was the worse medicine I have ever taken....It made me feel crazy. Like I was outside of my body watching my life. I also had a difficut time, way more then normal, finding words and putting together sentences that made sense. Then one night I had an hallucination. That was the final straw, and I stopped. The neuro told me many people have bad reactions...and in fact the medical community call it "dopamax"....
Avatar n tn How does Rolaids or tums help with the tingling sensations caused by taking topiramate?
1104710 tn?1258034139 ok ok , I started topiramate for 2 moths now, the first month the cravings was less, and after a month the doc, change the dosage, now I'm on 50 twice a day, I don't think its working. I haven't lost any weight, does this meds take time?? Should I been seeing result ? am I wasting my time? I really haven't been experiencing the side effects, little bit at first, but nothing to cry about. If anybody have any advice please any is helpful!
Avatar f tn t appear to have made a difference for my wife. She used it for almost 10 years at 100mg max for 50% of that time. She was tirated off of it in December 2014 and she had no change in symptoms. She has had better success with a treatment called EEG Neurofeedback. If you need to use a drug ask your Doctor if you can try a drug called Maxalt or similar drug (it is relatively costly though). EEG Neurofeedback is non invasive and one can sometimes see changes within a few visits.
Avatar f tn I went to my OBGYN last week and she gave me my first Birth Control pills for me to try. She gave me Junel 1/20, which are three weeks of small yellow pills and one week off so I can get my period. I was reading in all the little information attached with the pills that my medication for my seizures (Trokendi XR) may cause the Birth Control to break down and lose its ability to take effect. I have tried calling my doctor's office all week with no answer.
Avatar m tn Some of the common side effects of topiramate that are seen when it is used as a preventive therapy for migraine are tiredness, mood swings, anxiety, insomnia, depression, pins and needles sensation and difficulty with language. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topiramate The trembling of hand could be because of increased anxiety and difficulty in speech due to trouble with language. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn Hi, I've been on topiramate since August for migraine prevention. I have had a chronic cough since about the time I went on it and have had cold symptoms ever since. I am now on asthma inhalers. I take 100 mg twice daily. I came here to see if anyone else is having those issues. I have found since August, my mouth has been very dry. My appetite is decreased.
Avatar f tn i agree that it's very odd for a doc to leave the med decision up to you. i don't have epilepsy (my son does); but i've been on both of these meds. i've been on the lamotrigine for depression (it didn't work) and i currently take the topamax to control migranes. yes, topamax is also called "topastupid" and "dopamax" because i swear i loose IQ points on a daily basis. LOL!! Good luck.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I was wondering when u were on topamax did u ever get a sore throat or sinus infection? My neuro just added topiramate 25 mg to my 80mg propranolol for my daily migrianes. I wanted to stop propranolol as it cause rapid weight gain. 12 pounds in one week! It' seems to b working tho for my headaces but not worth the weight gain and Iv only been on it for 5-6 weeks. I just started topiramate and took my first one two nights ago and that same night was up all night hawking up mucus.
Avatar f tn m 25 years-old and have been taking topiramate for over 10 years. I started at the 50 mg dose like your son but I'm currently taking 200 mg daily. It has never done anything for my mood (although I have heard that it can) - I take separate medication for anxiety/depression. It also never affected my appetite and it never caused me to lose any weight.
Avatar f tn ve been on levothyroxine for years. My doctor had me up to 375 mcg. of levo. I got a TSH test on 2/4/14. My TSH was 0.11. I got another TSH on 3/10/14. It showed TSH of 0.07. I got dropped from 375 mcg. to 350 mcg. Then 300 mcg. Now my doctor wants to drop me down to 200 mcg. I'm very concerned I'm going to crash. I know technically if the TSH is low, the thyroid meds should be lowered. I was doing ok on 375 mcg.
Avatar m tn I take 150 mg of topiramate for cronic cluster headaches every night. Sometimes this causes me to have wake up with pain/tingling in my feet as a side effect. I find relief from this pain by using a "hidow" electronic massager that uses electricity on the bottoms of my feet. I'm not sure if that is relevant but that's what I had just started using when the pain in my feet was so intense.
Avatar m tn Hi and so very sorry you are having all this trouble. I have a migraine variant that in my 20's just gave me vomiting and no headache. It only came on at night. They gave me Klonopin and I haven' t had that since. But I don't recommend Klonopin for the vertigo. So, then I started getting the migraine headaches and aura in my 30's and took Imitrex and that worked some for the migraine headaches. Only this last year and a half I started getting double vision then severe vertigo.
Avatar n tn He has recently given me numerous trial medication to see if my current state and headaches would improve including apo-acetazolamide (250 mg) and ratio-topiramate (25mg). With acetazolamide not working, and topiramate worsening my state. After being on topiramate for 3 days, I had a general feeling of confusion, disorientation, trouble with my memory, and trouble concentrating.
Avatar m tn However, I was diagnosed with silent migraine or migraine equivalent by my neuro. I was given Topiramate and Maxalt. The Maxalt did absolutely nothing and the Topiramate put me through two weeks of constant dizziness and vertigo not to mention a couple of panic attacks. I quit the Topiramate and had severe withdrawal symptoms that put me in the E.R. Blood work, urinalysis, chest xray, and head CT w/out contrast all checked out fine.
Avatar f tn She is just really stressed because she cant get any answers. She has been on Topamax (Topiramate) for seizures for almost 2 years with no side effects.
Avatar f tn Has anyone taken this? What does it make u feel like and does it actually work for migraine?
Avatar f tn Yes, I believe the Topamax (Topiramate) is directly responsible for the depression returning. Depression is listed as a side effect with a greater than 10% incidence rate which is considered very common. I've noticed that people will be prescribed drugs that are known to cause depression when they are on antidepressants as if the doctor believes the antidepressant will cancel out that side effect, but this usually is not the case. You should talk about getting on another drug for migraines.
Avatar n tn I was just prescribed the drug for frequent migrains and was wondering why and how it causes weight loss? Does it decrease your ap?
Avatar f tn Since coming home I was referred to a new doctor and he is the one who prescribed me for topiramate for my migraines. I have been on many many other preventatives. with none being successful, til now. Although topiramate has not taken them away completely, it has reduced them from 3-4 a week to 1 a week.. which has been a huge relief!

Avatar f tn Lately I've been depressed, angry, anxious. And it's most of the time. I'm happy with my relationship but when we aren't together I overthink everything and just get seriously upset... I've been thinking of going to see a therapist because I feel like I'm ruining my happiness with my boyfriend over all this crap... But I'm scared... I've seen other threads saying not to see a psychiatrist because they'd just put you on meds...
