topamax

Avatar f tn Hi, I've been on topiramate since August for migraine prevention. I have had a chronic cough since about the time I went on it and have had cold symptoms ever since. I am now on asthma inhalers. I take 100 mg twice daily. I came here to see if anyone else is having those issues. I have found since August, my mouth has been very dry. My appetite is decreased.
Avatar f tn It is recommended that children treated with topiramate should be monitored closely for evidence of decreased sweating and increased body temperature, especially in hot weather. All patients, particularly those with other predisposing factors, should be instructed to maintain an adequate fluid intake in order to minimize the risk of kidney stone formation.
1230912 tn?1273492770 I was on Topamax for a short period of time for migraine preventive. It was the worse medicine I have ever taken....It made me feel crazy. Like I was outside of my body watching my life. I also had a difficut time, way more then normal, finding words and putting together sentences that made sense. Then one night I had an hallucination. That was the final straw, and I stopped. The neuro told me many people have bad reactions...and in fact the medical community call it "dopamax"....

Avatar f tn What do mood stablizers do for people who arent bipolar...my dr is using it to get me off benzos and to help my anxiety, but just how do they help...
Avatar f tn m told can cause anxiety) and Lamictal (mood stabilizer for Bipolar). Buspar works great for me and is the kind of med that you can feel accumulate in your system. That way, you don't suffer if missing a dose. I take 10mg 3 times a day. It used to just be 2x, but my job got stressful and we made an adjustment. I was originally given Xanax which was a huge mistake on my GP's part.
Avatar f tn [4] The only patent left for topiramate in the U.S. is for pediatric use; this patent will expire on February 28, 2009. The drug is also used in clinical trials to treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.[15] A pilot study suggests that Topiramate is possibly effective against infantile spasms.[16] A study by Harvard recommends topiramate as an effective treatment in the prevention of Periventricular leukomalacia in preterm infants after an hypoxic-ischemic injury.[17] In May 2006 the U.S.
574118 tn?1305135284 If you read the prescribing information (easily googled, not hidden behind pay walls), they all have dosage instructions for bipolar as well, often with different target doses depending on what you're treating. There are at least some people who believe that epilepsy, migraines, and bipolar might all be part of some broad spectrum of related disorders.
Avatar f tn I recognize that Bipolar I is more severe, however the usual dose for anyone with Bipolar disorder is between 25mg-200mg. Listen, doctors will truly mess up your life without intending to. After 10 years of being heavily dosed by multiple medications (too many to recount) for multiple reasons, I recently began the extremely lengthy process of getting off each medication, one by one.
Avatar f tn I had periorbital migraines and was placed on Topamax, technically an anti-seizure but also great for migraine/headache control and mood stabilization in bipolar disorder. That for a while was the only thing that worked for me. It can have a sedative and appetite suppressant effect. I was also shortly on a low dose of Elavil for migraines. Carefull with that one, take only the amount prescribed.
Avatar m tn How long does it take for the body to adjust to 150 mg of Wellbutrin? My doctor said eventually I will take 300 mg of it, but on the first day, instead of taking 1 tablet, I took 2. The first two nights were ******* hell. Had it not been for my roommate's bipolar medication, I would've died or something. I'm thinking 300 mg is too much for body to handle. So I plan on going back down to what my doc said. But I'm wondering, should I skip a day first, then start taking the 150?
210982 tn?1280983895 librium is often used for alcohol wd and is a mild benzo...litium is for bipolar disorder....blood leveles need to be monitored...drinking alcohol with litium is strongly not advised...it is a natural chemical we all have in our body but for bipolar disorder it is an old drug of choice///but a good one for many if they r compliant...alcohol is a no no cos it messes the lithium levels up really bad....she needs to speak to her dr..
Avatar n tn How does Rolaids or tums help with the tingling sensations caused by taking topiramate?
Avatar f tn I went to my OBGYN last week and she gave me my first Birth Control pills for me to try. She gave me Junel 1/20, which are three weeks of small yellow pills and one week off so I can get my period. I was reading in all the little information attached with the pills that my medication for my seizures (Trokendi XR) may cause the Birth Control to break down and lose its ability to take effect. I have tried calling my doctor's office all week with no answer.
Avatar f tn Different AAPs work differently for each individual. If Seroquel is not working for you, you should discuss it with your pdoc and either change the dosage of the drug itself. There are quite a few other AAPs, and a few act as mood stabilizers as well. Overdose on ACs??? ACs work very differently than AAPs. I don't know your complete diagnosis, nor am I qualified to prescribe your medications. These decisions are between you and your doctor.
1452588 tn?1285086427 Absolutely! For four years I took Wellbutrin for depression. In 1999 all heck broke loose when I became agitated, nervous and grandiose.. I was hospitalized in a day program for four weeks, That's when my psychiatrist gave me Bipolar II Disorder diagnosis. I stayed on Wellbutrin at a lower dose, and a mood stabilizer and anti-psychotic were added to the mix. I've learned through the years that for no apparent reason, a med can stop working.
Avatar f tn Eight anti-seizure (antiepileptic) medications used as mood stabilizers for bipolar disorder in the United States must now carry a new warning regarding the risk of suicidal ideation. According to the FDA, the increase in the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior is "approximately one additional case of suicidal thinking or behavior for every 530 patients treated with an antiepileptic drug." However, psychiatrist Dr.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I was wondering when u were on topamax did u ever get a sore throat or sinus infection? My neuro just added topiramate 25 mg to my 80mg propranolol for my daily migrianes. I wanted to stop propranolol as it cause rapid weight gain. 12 pounds in one week! It' seems to b working tho for my headaces but not worth the weight gain and Iv only been on it for 5-6 weeks. I just started topiramate and took my first one two nights ago and that same night was up all night hawking up mucus.
Avatar n tn I was on Topamax (Topiramate) 200 mg/day for approximately 7 yrs for peripheral neuropathy. The only thing it affected was my weight - I did lose a few pounds when I first started taking it. I've been off it since March of this year and although I've gained considerable weight, I can't blame it all on stopping the Topiramate because I do have hypothyroidism and my thyroid hormone levels are not adequate.
Avatar n tn s almost over. My question to you is if fluoxetine (she may have bipolar) is taken for several years at the same dosage, would this outburst (which just happened recently, her slumps of being very unhappy and depressed) be caused by the dose? Meaning, could it help if she was to up her dose, or change medications? I don't want to see them break up, they were very happy. I am not fully aware of this disorder and know it can take years to diagnose.
237152 tn?1206651036 wow that was a HUGE dosage i wasnt up to that dosage for 6 months. i used it for migraines and depression it also helped me quit smokeing for the time i was taking it and lose weight. about 1 year into taking it my legs arm and tongue would go numb which is a side effect so they took me off. that was heck on wheels my migraines got so bad. i think you reacted so badly cause of the dosage. some docs just dont think before prescribing.
Avatar m tn I believe the Lamictal is a maintainence drug for mood swings and it contains a antidpressant. My bipolar leans more to depression than mania and I have to be on a antidpressant. When beginning a new antidepressant I tend to get mania for a short time but seem to adjust after the first week or two. Hey, if you are feeling good...why mess with something that's not broken! Best of luck.
Avatar f tn Thank you!!! My Dr. seems to think because I have been on them for so long that they should still be working. I will just have to explain the difference I am feeling.
