Avatar f tn The drug is also used in clinical trials to treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.[15] A pilot study suggests that Topiramate is possibly effective against infantile spasms.[16] A study by Harvard recommends topiramate as an effective treatment in the prevention of Periventricular leukomalacia in preterm infants after an hypoxic-ischemic injury.[17] In May 2006 the U.S. National Institutes of Health web site clinicaltrials.
Avatar n tn Now you are on 2 of the 4 types of glaucoma medication available (the other two are carbonic anhydrase inhibitor and Alphagan-P type). You should be worried. Hopefully your ophthalmologist specializes in glaucoma. Don't know what else I can tell you other than take your medicines and keep your appointments.
Avatar f tn 1. prostaglandin analogue 2. carbonic anhydrase inhibitor 3. beta blocker 4. alpha adrenergic receptor agonist Your father would need to be on all 4 types for maximum therapy. Additional therapy includes laser treatment and for the most severe glaucoma surgery hopefully using the new MIGS (minimally invasive glaucoma surgery) techniques.
Avatar f tn ve had include continuous steroid drops(Pred Forte or Durazol), NSAID drops (Acular, Xibrom, Nevanac) Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitor drops (Asopt), two intravitreous triamcinolone injections, and 15 anti-VEGF injections (Avastin). The CME sometimes gets a little better, sometimes a little worse, but has not gone away in over two years. It is speculated that the epiretinal membrane may be contributing. I would like to get a second opinion about this.
Avatar m tn Almost no modern physician uses Diamox anymore and Cosopt contains a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor and that is what neptazane is so Cosopt and neptazane are rarely used together. You might try and get in to see a glaucoma specialist even if you have to go to Phoenix, while there you can ask the toric question plus there is a lot written about that on this website that you can find with wearch feature and archives.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Acetazolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that causes bicarbaturia and metabolic acidosis, which presumably shifts the apneic threshold of PaCO2 to a lower level. It has been shown to be effective therapy in primary central sleep apnea and CSB in patients with heart failure and in the treatment of high-altitude periodic breathing. • Theophylline: This agent has been studied in patients with heart failure and was found to be effective in attenuating CSB.
Avatar f tn Every treatment.. Anti-inflammatories, steroids, numerous anti-VEGF, and carbonic anhydrase inhibitors...have failed. I feel I have nothing to lose, since mainstream practices have all been tried and failed. I have seen several retina specialists who are all at a loss to know what to do.
Avatar n tn Physically removing excess spinal fluid or by inhibiting spinal fluid production through the use of drugs including carbonic anhydrase ( in your case, Diamox) may help. Lumbar punctures may temporarily ease the IH headache but long-term use of this therapy has limited benefits. Surgery to implant a neurosurgical shunt may also be an option if drug therapy do not work. Discuss this with your doctor for proper management. Take care and best regards.
Avatar m tn These include medications such as zinc, metronidazole, and carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, such as acetazolamide. Other causes include peptic ulcer disease, glossodynia (i.e., burning mouth syndrome), and intoxication from various metals/compounds such as mercury or iodine or medications containing these elements. There are other causes of metallic taste. Cymbalta is associated with causing an abnormal taste in some people.

Avatar n tn How does Rolaids or tums help with the tingling sensations caused by taking topiramate?
Avatar n tn I am currently on Keppra and Topiramate and have just been told my latest tests are showing major kidney damage from the topiramate. I have been on these two meds since 2002. I have to admit, reading all this is very scary. NO Other Meds have worked to control my seizures ! PERIOD!! Plus I have severe Migraines and Short term memory is almost gone in a matter of seconds. What is a girl to do? Signed.... Tami....
Avatar f tn You can call the pharmacist who filled your prescription. Often they are better able to answer these types of questions than your doctor because they have access to all the databases available that contain information about drug interactions and so on. They are also much easier to get a hold of than most doctors.
Avatar f tn I'm day 5 into taking Topiramate 25mg at night for migraine prevention. My migraine is a daily pressure headache at the base of my skull. I have Chiari malformation type 1 but neurosurgeon says I don't need surgery, thankfully. He and my neurologist advised i try Topiramate as Amitriptyline didn't suit me (made me suicidal) and my asthma prevents them trying me on beta blockers.
Avatar f tn Dorcas T has dorzolamide in it which is called a CAI and so is diamox And normally you don’t use two carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. You need to see if your ophthalmologist can stop some of your pressure medicines.
1415174 tn?1453243103 Has anyone tried extended release Topamax or Topiramate? It is called Trokedi XR. I am going to try it because my memory is so bad on Topamax. My neurologist said it might be better with Trokedi XR but it is very expensive. So if you can tell me before I buy it I would appreciate any feedback.
Avatar m tn beta blockers (which I dislike and use last), bromonidine, prostaglandin analogs and carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. Also laster treatment (newest is cold laser Yag frequency doubled nanosecond selective trabeculoplasty) and lastly glaucoma filtering surgery. 4.
Avatar m tn I take 150 mg of topiramate for cronic cluster headaches every night. Sometimes this causes me to have wake up with pain/tingling in my feet as a side effect. I find relief from this pain by using a "hidow" electronic massager that uses electricity on the bottoms of my feet. I'm not sure if that is relevant but that's what I had just started using when the pain in my feet was so intense.
Avatar m tn I was going to a neurologist that specialized in migraines and she gave me Topiramate which totally took away the vertigo and double vision. I get a very slight bit but not the kind that knocks you over now and only a few seconds. I was also told to go to an ENT to rule out Meniers disease and they checked my hearing and looked in my ear and did a CT to rule out a tumor behind the ear called acoustic neuroma. They were all negative. If positive for the Meniers they give you water pills.
Avatar n tn He has recently given me numerous trial medication to see if my current state and headaches would improve including apo-acetazolamide (250 mg) and ratio-topiramate (25mg). With acetazolamide not working, and topiramate worsening my state. After being on topiramate for 3 days, I had a general feeling of confusion, disorientation, trouble with my memory, and trouble concentrating.
Avatar f tn I am not sure if anyone can help me out with this but I have a friend that is on Topamax (Topiramate) for seizures and she just found out she is 7 weeks pregnant. She had been pregnant before but had a miscarriage. She is very scared because she can’t find any information on this medication to tell her if or if not this medication will hurt the baby. She has seen the OB/GYN and they told her they are not sure and she needs to speak with her Neurologists.
Avatar m tn However, I was diagnosed with silent migraine or migraine equivalent by my neuro. I was given Topiramate and Maxalt. The Maxalt did absolutely nothing and the Topiramate put me through two weeks of constant dizziness and vertigo not to mention a couple of panic attacks. I quit the Topiramate and had severe withdrawal symptoms that put me in the E.R. Blood work, urinalysis, chest xray, and head CT w/out contrast all checked out fine.
Avatar f tn 125mcg levythyroxin( for hypothyroidism), 150 mg Trazedone (to help me sleep), 50 mg topiramate 2x per day (to prevent my almost daily migraines - only have been on this treatment for a month now), (& when needed 40mg relpax for my breakthrough migraines). Have recently begun seeing tracers upon waking up. Triple vision of things and tracers. Iam a life long sufferer of migraines. I have been in and out of hospitals for my migraines.
Avatar n tn Topamax (Topiramate) is not a weight loss medication; I'm surprised you'd find a doctor to prescribe it for that. I take it daily, for peripheral neuropathy. I've been on it for about 2 yrs and it's done nothing to help with weight loss. Of course, the dosage has a lot to do with it... what dosage are you on?
