I am on 50mg topiramate 2x a day and 250 mg Divalproex in the morning and 500 at night. Both drugs are known to cause hair loss. As well topirimate can cause one who is on birth control pills to get pregnant & or cause break through bleeding!! I'm 48!! I don't need a pregnancy, plus if you get pregnant the baby could have a cleft palate! Why don't these bastards tell us that before? He put me on lamotrigine before and I broke out in a rash all over my body and had palipatations.

He started me out at 50 mg Topiramate (25 in the morning and 25 at night), but it wasn't nearly enough, so within a couple months, he increased the dosage to 100 mg (50 morning and 50 at night). That helped for a while, but within a few months, it was no longer enough, so he increased my dosage to 200 mg (100 morning and 100 at night)... I can't get, either, my pcp or neuro to go any higher...

ive been off for almost 2 years now and still have hair come out but not nearly as bad as before. I cant take biotin because it makes my hair and skin super oily and greasy and gives me REALLY bad acne. so I have just been dealing with it, I'm sorry but it will take time, it will grow back though I promise. 3 months isn't enough time. do some research on hair and their growth stages. may take a year or more to see the fullness really come back. Hi, The reason you were prescribed the medications was mood swings and migraines. Do not take the side effect of topiramate that is weight loss to be the aim in using the medication. Are your symptoms of migraine and mood swings better after taking the medications? Carry on regular exercises to help you lose weight and plan your diet schedule accordingly. Consult your neurologist before you stop taking any medication or even change its dose. Let us know if you have any doubts.

It can have some side effects like loss of appetite and a bit of foggy headedness especially in the beginning but I used to get up to 4 migraines a week and now I might get one every 6 months

Anyone on this medication? I was diagnosed with cluster headaches when I was 15 and after being on every kind of muscle relaxer under the sun with them not working I gave up and learned to deal with the headaches. Ever since I was put on Extavia I have been having horrible headaches and I really don't know if the DMD is the cause of the worsening or not but ibuprofen was not cutting it anymore.

I am currently on Keppra and Topiramate and have just been told my latest tests are showing major kidney damage from the topiramate. I have been on these two meds since 2002. I have to admit, reading all this is very scary. NO Other Meds have worked to control my seizures ! PERIOD!! Plus I have severe Migraines and Short term memory is almost gone in a matter of seconds. I had my first migraine when I was 12 and they became chronic and literally everyday after two car accidents. (Rear end and head on). I am soon going to b getting my nerves on my c3-6 burned to help with the headaches and neck pain. I'm only 23 yrs old. I had to quit my career (cosmetologist) I loved it and right before my migrianes randomly became daily I had an offer to become a redken color artist and do hair in big time hair shows up on stage with many famous hairstylist.

However, I was diagnosed with silent migraine or migraine equivalent by my neuro. I was given Topiramate and Maxalt. The Maxalt did absolutely nothing and the Topiramate put me through two weeks of constant dizziness and vertigo not to mention a couple of panic attacks. I quit the Topiramate and had severe withdrawal symptoms that put me in the E.R. Blood work, urinalysis, chest xray, and head CT w/out contrast all checked out fine.

How does Rolaids or tums help with the tingling sensations caused by taking topiramate?

Hi. My son is 15 yo and has recently been prescribed Topiramate 50mg Daily preventive use for Classic Migraine HA and "added bonus to decrease mood swings." Amongst many other concerns I have, I am concerned with remarks of weight loss. He is already very thin with a very good appetite. How much weight loss can I expect and does anyone have experience with the mood swings issue?

t help you if your taking medication for your seizures due to me having a relative that has them. It is not safe do to take both birth control and Topiramate due to them mixing up. Topiramate would make the birth control less useful , so it'll be just a regular pill your taking, it won't protect you due to the Topiramate. Hopefully this helps.

My Doctor Put me on Phentermine 30mg and Topiramate 50 mg and now wants to give me sample Synthroid tablets 150mg to jump start weight loss. I am concerned. Is this alright to do?

I would be running those tests because I would want to know if that’s why people’s hair was falling out. Hair loss in not a symptom of Topamax, but it is of Hypothyroidism. See what I mean?

Hi...this is not really all that new, and it is the generic of TOPAMAX...this can take 2 weeks to adjust to....so u may feel extremely tired and off balance with this.... I did lose weight, and not sure how it works, but I gained it all back and I am still on the med....so it is not a weight loss miracle. I have noticed a change in taste as well as smells...so I know that did affect what I eat.... Good luck and again be advised most do need an adjustment period to this med.

I hope anyone who uses Topamax for any reason is fully aware of the serious risk of acute narrow angle glaucoma. I had read several articles about it but saw it firsthand last week. As usual on my quiet weekend off I got the dreaded call from the emergency room, again. This time about a woman on Topamax for 7 days who seemed to have lost almost all her vision 12 hours after increasing her dose per her doctor's instructions.

However, a couple of years ago I was on a variety of medications including Zoloft, Xanax, Trazadone and Clonapin and noticed the hair loss. I went from having thick hair to very thin and brittle. I just started topiramate and took my first one two nights ago and that same night was up all night hawking up mucus. Second night I felt stuffy and horrible sore throat and still a ton of mucus. I'm allergic to a lot of perscription meds for cold and stuff so it's hard to find one that will actually work when me when I do. But I can't get into my doctors for a couple more days anyways. I am a 36 year young female and was told I have a right parietal meningeoma of 4mm. It is supposed to be in my frontal lobe. About a week later an EEG was done and indicated sharp discharges in both hemispheres of my brain. I have been having horrible headaches since at least 10/20 of this year that get to the point of nausea. They are sharp and never completely go away. Just vary in intensity to more bareable at times than others.

Only in the past 20 days, hair fall has gone up. Does hair straightening dry out the hair causing lack of moisture and thus hair fall?? I truly hope that this is temporary as you mentioned!!
