Avatar n tn I got zovirax ointment for cold sore but reading i found out ointment is for genital herpes does it really matter ?
Avatar f tn The doctor indicated that it was normal for the infection to be gone but the symptoms to persist so she prescribed a topical steroid cream which has helped some but symptoms are still pretty bad. At this visit I demanded a full STD test which included a herpes IGg test and IGm test both type specific. The IGg came back with a positive HSV1 (I knew this as I have cold sores for as long as I can remember) and a negative HSV2. The IGm both came back negative indicating no present infection.
55646 tn?1263660809 Nationally, there are at least three different studies beginning for the treatment of genital herpes. First, the Genocea phase one (first in humans) trial. Instead of an oral medication to treat herpes, Genocea out of Boston has taken the approach of stimulating the immune system to respond more robustly to the herpes virus in people who are already infected with the virus.
Avatar m tn I went to the doctors to get checked out, and he took a look and prescribed me Acyclovir. I have been taking acyclovir for the past 20 days and my outbreak is still there no of the lesions have popped and gone away. I have been bringing a ton of water and not eating processed food. Shouldn't it have cleared up by now? This is my initial outbreak and like I said before it has been three weeks since the start of the outbreak now. Any advice would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn these aren't herpes symptoms. Your description of them doesn't even begin to match up with herpes. Your doctor erred in prescribing you zovirax ointment which isn't effective for genital herpes lesions anyways. You should think them for wasting your time and hard earned money. Since these aren't changing at all even after the application of a topical steroid, odds are they are normal bumps. Our genital skin is very tender and it certainly is never completely smooth.
Avatar f tn I also spoke to a friend who has had herpes for over 20 years before either drug was around....just topical creams. She now takes Acyclovir (since it came out) effectively 2x/day with no breakouts. She ups the dose to 3x per day if she feels something coming on. I know everyone has a different body chemistry, but do you think she is having such success because perhaps she built up some immunity in the years before the Acyclovir came out?
Avatar f tn You will have to re post this in the herpes community. See the type above that says "For questions and support for Herpes, please visit our Herpes Community." click on the blue type and it will bring you to the herpes community.
Avatar f tn A herpetic whitlow is a lesion on a finger or thumb caused by the herpes simplex virus. In adults it is more common for the primary source to be the genital region, with a corresponding preponderance of HSV-2. Although it is a self-limited illness, topical antivirals, particularly topical acyclovir, have been shown to be effective in decreasing the duration of symptoms.
Avatar f tn So was in a relationship with a man in Jan and we were having unprotected sex we are no longer together. Then on Feb 23rd I stated to have yeast infection symptoms the itching and burning on urination. I actually get yeast infections often so I went and bought a 3 day treatment well it didn't seem to help so I was just leaving it alone and going to let it go away on its own but it never really did go away.
Avatar f tn you can try something as simple as soaking in the bathtub with epsom salts thrown in for comfort. dermoplast spray ( the blue can for the genital area, not the red can ), is also helpful for pain relief. It's a topical anesthetic you can spray on for pain relief. other illness can cause your herpes to reoccur. also bacterial vaginosis especially can trigger herpes to be more active.
Avatar f tn A single large lip bump does not sound like herpes at all. Stop using antivirals, there is no need for that unless you have a confirmed infection and are not managing the infection too well. Transmission genital to oral is an extremely low chance; 1 in many thousands.
Avatar m tn No pain if I touched them or while urinating only a  slight tingling feeling once in a while. I showed myself to a GUM, he said these might be genital herpes due to the exposure background or multiple other issues like eczema or balanitis. He suggested betnovate GM and acyclovir. I applied the cream and took the tablets. However, next day the red spots reduced and by next evening they were gone.
Avatar n tn Is it possible that exposure to several different herpes viruses could cause neuropathy? For example, if you have been exposed to HSV-1 (Cols Sores), HSV-2 (Genital Herpes), Chicken Pox, Mononucleosis and possibly HHV-6, do you run more of a risk for neuropathy? (I know for sure I have or have had the first four). Recently, I have been using acyclovir because I was having genital herpes outbreaks almost every month right before my period.
Avatar n tn you only take acyclovir daily for cold sore prevention? it isn't effective as a once daily treatment for herpes. being on acyclovir suppressively will mess up testing for hsv2. that said, this encounter was only oral sex so you really were never at risk for hsv2. blood testing for std's a few days post encounter was inaccurate. most of the std's you were at risk for can't be tested for via blood as well as you tested too early.
Avatar f tn I have a friend who has had genital hsv1 for 20 years who also likes to mix tea tree oil with another oil for relief. Not everyone is the same so, I would suggest testing it on your skin before putting it on your labia to test of allergies. My sores still lasted a week so it does not magically disappear, but they were also very minor. I am a big believer that nature provides what we need and spent hours & days researching natural antivirals, immune boosters & antioxidants.
Avatar f tn Hello! I have had herpes for about 8 years. The first outbreak was blisters on my labia majora on one side, and swollen spots itchy spots near by on my buttocks on the other side, with pain my my leg bones. I was never told what type I had. I was very uneducated and clueless at that time, and I think I might have spread it all over my body by scratching, including my eyes. But I did not have any other outbreak until 2009, which was swollen itchy spots on my buttocks.
